Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

i was quite getting in to that this evening. Got on the hill and kept trying to get close enough to take out the enemy tanks and bmps with my weapons. Tried an 'anti material sniper rifle' which was pretty cool, then went for an assault rifle with ACOG scope to clear the way for me to get to the tanks with my antitank launcher. Unfortunately it doidnt work out as planned and only got about 4 kills without even getting close enought to take out the tanks...
Then one of you guys called in the artillery on them anyway! Then I decided it was past my bedtime as i have to work tomorrow!!

Good game

Great game tonight lads.

Im only scratching the surface so far but I can really see the potential in this. Must get TS sorted though.

great games and once again lol @Gordy yer man you gotta admit my short cut via teh forest was class as i cleared a route with my tank :D

my fave bit was the ****ty campaign we played it was crap but teh team work me and l33 put in together was utter class, fear my sniper rifle!!!

Might have been a bug unfortunately. It still said you were driving and when we kicked you we were able to move it.. Sorry chap.

GG again guys. My highlight tonight was Sarcasm driving the M1A1 through a forest to clear a path for my armour support convoy! Lucky there wernt any tree huggin hippies! God damn hippies!

Don't worry about it, I'll be on again tonight if anyone else is.

I am still having issues with this. I find myself out in the middle of no where on my own all the time.

Anyone give me some tips on reading the map? Please dont say look around for buildings and such because I normally end up spawning in some woods.

Is there anything I can use to get my location in game?

Im "David" in the game, which strangely is my name ;)

Any help appreciated.

If you use your scroll wheel to bring up the menu on the left, then do show status. In there you can go to settings and change it so that you can see names on the map of where people are, this can help you see where people are meeting up.

Also, when in the map you can go to tasks and it will tell you which place we are currently attacking. If your at the main base, you can go to the flagpole and click teleport, and this will take you to wherever the MHQs are setup, which is usually near the objective.

There was tons of teamwork.
Huge squads moving through towns clearing them, covering eachother
Chopper pilots ferrying us back and forth
Hammer moving around MHQs and collecting wrecks
Gord and sarcasm taking out armour in the chopper while ground crew lazed targets
I remember on several occasions people attracting APC fire so that others could get into position to hit them with rockets
Choppers dropping ammo crates when we asked
Medics last night were awesome, I had to call on one 3 times and never waited more than a minute
etc etc

yea what i mean is from random people and random servers :)

Thanks that is useful info. Also read that pressing space on people shows them up.

Another stupid question but how do i use the COMPASS? It seems really small on my screen. Cant you make it come up bigger? Or look at it during game?

I just registered with TS but when I play the wife and daughter are usually in bed so im not sure it will be much use.

To me, it seems like a few who know what they are doing rush off.
Their main priority getting kills for themselves.
Only wait for the rest of the team when they need to.
Team help, guidance, very low.
As long as you guys at the top are coping it seems like, sod the rest of us poor buggers. :)
You could say get some nuts/skills/tactics etc Learn whats going on.
It is hard when you guys are trying to stay one step ahead of everyone else and helping others is never really a true intention. Unless again it helps you.
Couldn't get on last night, (Password needed, so guess there was someone tossing about then.) so maybe, hopefully; real unselfish team play is emerging.

I do get the same feeling as well so you arent alone. I am sure there is good reason for it. :p

I have learn more in the last few moments on this forum than about six hours on the actual server.

What we need is a drill instructor for new recruits who will unselfishly take us around as a group. Unfortunately like you said people are more interested in racking up points by the look of it.

So does anyone want to be a drill instructor for us noobs? :D

All I would say to that jmc is get on Teamspeak. Those on TS will always get priority help or at least be able to hear the decision making process of everyone else.

No one is trying to stay one step ahead but rushing off to kill things is the main objective. Its quite easy to feel alone if you dont know what you are doing. I would say, stick with your team members (press space to see who/where they are) and use the teleport (often flag poles on domination maps) to get to the frontline quickly.

The more experienced players are actually helping a lot in making it easier to play by positioning the Mobile Respawn points effectively and recovering wrecked vehicles.

last night was fun, but Im not playing on an open server anymore.

The newbs and base shooting ****ers are just to annoying so much time/ammo/assets are wasted. I strongly feel we would be better off with a passworded server with less people.

We wouldnt have to worry about some newb taking off in the harrier and crashing at the end of the runway or as I had last night, people ramming me in trucks in the as i was waiting for the squad to be in possision with degs(rather than flying around getting shot at and end up getting ksploded)

lets at least try it.

/rant over

edit: set the server to persistant and it wont reset if everyone leaves thus not a problem if we dont clear the map in 1 night. its how i have my server setup and its great we can take a week to clear the map on evo :D

LOL, Enable the VON on the server and I´ll play the drill instructor for you!

To those who struggle with teh game, my best advice is this im only 3 days in to this game my self,

step1. do single player training missions you learn a lot on them its how i learned to be a good pilot.
step 2 do single player armoury. this way you get a feel for fighting targets and understanding way points and missions also you unlock new stuff as you progress :)
step3 TS is a must so please join if you can
step 4 Join a squad this way you will see lil green sqare around your team mates this helps in following them.
step5. flag poles. they able you to spawn at a MHQ which are normally airlifted to hot zones or you can paradrop in but that happens every 25 mins if you use it
step 6 always use space bar to see if its friendly or foe, less risk of TK

as for teh rusing to targs by exp players thats rubbish. kills mean Fall here its about land control if we take a age then the opfor team will set up fully and spread out. speed is teh key in domination as they recapture points on the map and avg game with players who know what there doing is 4-5 hours

also the server is set to vet mode, means you cant see yoru self on map it can be hard even i struggle with teh map but im starting to understand it now

any how there will be training nights so ppl can learn and get a grip with tanks, choppers missle systems and such :) so i wouldnt worry about it too much yet

Yeah the experienced people sound very friendly

I like how you are calling people newbs yet the game has only been out about a week lol

This sort of comment backs up the what the other guy was saying about helping new people. If you dont want new people joining your "elite" group you shouldnt really start a OCUK server in the forum.

I hope the rest dont think like this on the server.

Thanks Gord I will have a look through that. Nice to have some friendly people ;)

But it was actually released in Germany a month or so ago, and quite a few people here bought it then, so technically most people are noobs to them.

And it's not the noobs so much that we worry about, it's the noobs who would rather **** about than learn how to play properly.

I think we should enable VON on the server too. Although we can all use TS, perhaps VON would also be good for directing orders to ppl who seem unable to acknowledge the talk bar. I also just love making people jump in direct chat proximity.

Also, I have got my first mission in a sort of beta state now and would like to test it out with a few players. Maybe I should host a game soon and invite about 3 others in with me?

My rant has nothing to do with new players from this forum. Its the random newbs and twits that I have a beef with.

How are we sposed to help new OCUK players with utter mayhem going on in base?(and thus TS asking for kicks)

I dont class my self as an 'elite' player, as you put it, but I do know how to act in the game to not peeve people off and work as a team.

I help people all the time on TS when im playing, people just have to ask.

But if your new to the game, you shouldnt be learning how to fly in mp anyway, do the tutorials they cover everything
