Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

What I have found is that I'm uselss at commanding due to needing to learn more menu shortcuts, so I perfer to get given a gun and ordered about from there so to speak. I assume that is how Co-op is played?
No probs just join a slot that isn't a leaders role (you'll see a list of roles when you join the server). If you choose a role that is led by an OCUK member at least you can talk to them on TS if you get lost etc :)
Also, given my skill level is it OK to just hop on the [OCUK] server (which I asume it's easy to find)?
Server is easy to find, in the multiplayer list just click 'filter' and type ocuk in the name field. Any experience level is welcome, you'll pick it up quick enough. Most important tip I guess is to quickly ID your targets before shooting, press space and point at them, you'll be able to tell whether they're friendly or not. Theres an FAQ in the first post of this thread that may be of some use too.
Finally, I downloaded TS2 and dug out the headset but the mic looks as if it's bust. Would that be a problem?
Its still helpful to listen in on what is happening, so not a complete disaster but having a microphone does help tons, especially when you need help (i.e. lost, need medic, need evac etc).

Guys, how do I register on the TS server? I've set up TS and have gone to the server but it wont let me message anyone to unlock. Can't change channels or anything.

Help appreciated.
These are the steps to register:
Hit connect , you will connect to the lobby ( as a new unregistered user )
Click on the SELF Menu at the top , then select REGISTER WITH SERVER
A new window will open Enter:
a login name
and a password twice
Hit Ok and you are registered

Now to store your details ,
Go to Menu Click Connect go to address book again and click on the server name
Add your login name in the login name box
do the same for your password

Click connect to test your details.

There were a couple of hackers a few days back, one guy had a score in the hundreds just a couple of minutes into one of the missions.

does any one have a logitech 3d-pro joy stick, need to set it up for arma2 if any have it can you send me teh profiel for it or help me set it up tried last night and ran in to a few issues of me not fully knowing what i was doing :o
I dont have that particular joystick but setup should be the same for all really. In Arma 2, open the control options and choose 'aircraft controls' from the drop down list at the top, then just click the controls one at a time and press/move whatever you want to bind them to... i.e. click 'pitch down' and move the joystick forward.
I can't remember the exact control names and can't look as I'm at work, but the ones you'll want to set are:
Pitch up/down
Roll left/right
Rudder left/right (left pedal and right pedal)
throttle +/-
fire
command fire
etc

If your joystick is a 2-part stick and throttle where both hands are needed you'll probably also want to bind a few more buttons - teamspeak, trackir toggle, trackir centre, menu up/down/select - if your stick supports hotkey emulation in its drivers/software that is.

Wow... My spec is in my sig, I have followed everything on the guide... Everything maxed I get like 15-20 fps lol!
Something isn't right then, you have a very similar spec to me and I get around 50-70fps on average (dips occasionally) with all at very high except AA which is low. The only place I've ever seen 20fps is chernogorsk or as we've dubbed it on TS 'ah not that ******* city of lag again'
Can you post (or screenshot) your settings?
Check the arma 2 tweaking/troubleshooting thread, specifically the bits that apply to you are:
disable hyperthreading (HT) in your bios
enable catalyst AI and set it to advanced
run the -winxp command line argument
use ATItool to disable vsync

Hope this helps :)

That VSync thing is in 3d, wait for vertical sync always off? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

I set the localvram to 1 gig (in bytes) but it seems to change back every time I play -.-

Here is the screen shots of everything :)

The only thing I have not done is disable hyperthreading. Reason being is.... Not sure if I will loose my speed - I paid the extra for OC to over clock this and if I change to disable HT will I loose my OC?

here is a screenie of all that has been asked :)

First thing that stands out is your viewdistance is 10000 (10km) and AA is High, both will have quite a big effect. Try setting AA to low/normal and viewdistance to 2500 (as most mp games limit this to around 2000 anyway).

To answer your other questions:
Vsync option is in the ATi control panel, but if you're running vista or win 7 you'll need ati traytools to disable it - go to Game Profiles > Manage Profiles. Create one if you dont have a default one already, the disable vsync - vista workaround option is in the Direct3D Tweaks tab.

Disabling HT will not affect your overclock at all. Pretty much all games benefit from having HT disabled btw :)

As for the config file being changed back every time, just right click the file, select properties and tick read only, that'll stop it!

OCUK ARMA2 V1.01 (co30 DominationA2!(T5xx))
Online Players (1/30)
1. [OCUK]Eddie182
Eddie if you manage to finish domination on your own we all owe you a beer :D

Could really do with an Admin at the moment. Got an idiot treating MHQs as his personal transport and TKing anyone who tells him to stop.
As sarcasm said, #vote kick playername
Whats his name dude? I can't remote kick anyone but I can add him to the ban list so if you manage to kick him, he wont come back on :)

To add, the banning of players, could it be done after reporting the name/s here on ocuk forums, maybe gives a chance for more people that's annoyed with a person/s to post so you can see that the person/s really are screwing the fun up for all concerned ?
Of course. Post names and a rough time and we wont hesitate to ban. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the Arma2 server remote kicking etc can't be done, but I can add their unique id to the ban list :)

Just finished some script editing work on the domination mission and uploaded it to the server so hopefully we can try it out soon.
Custom version is called co30 OCUK Domination.
Script changes/improvements:
  • If you teamkill or blow up an allied vehicle you're put in 'jail' for 60 seconds with the banana song playing on repeat. You cant move, cant even press escape.
  • AI should act a bit more tactically, grouping/covering and advancing or retreating
  • Some AI squads now have medics that will attempt to heal injured teammates
  • There will be slightly more infantry holding towns, and more light vehicles (UAZs) but not necessarily tanks/apcs
  • AI will try harder to recapture towns but will if so they'll do it sooner rather than leaving it 2 hours.
  • M1A1s, A10, AV8B (LGB) and AH1 available at base, but they deliberately do not respawn
  • All players now start with map markers turned on by default

New mission added to server. Sounds good for a quick blast rather than a long haul...
1. Operation Foothold (co20)
5 man squads. The theater of operations is Chernarus, where the USMC are attacking RUSSIAN controlled territory.

First Objective:
Capture Port Balota - Travel by sea from the barge and capture Port Balota. Follow the buoy string to reach the coast and choose one of the suggested landings. You may then make your way along the coast and capture Port Balota.

Second Objective:
Destroy Radio Tower - As a prelude to an all out assault on Balota Airstrip, take out the main Radio Tower. This is vital to preventing the enemy from calling in reinforcement not to mention preserving the element of surprise in our next objective. Failure to destroy the Radio Antenna before assaulting Balota Airstrip may have dire consequences! (hint: any explosive should do the trick)

Third Objective:
Capture Balota Airstrip - With the communications tower destroyed, the enemy can not call for reinforcements or report our presence. We can now capture Balota Airstrip and plan the next phase of our operation.

Final Objective:
Attack Chernogorsk - We have laid the groundwork for this main assault on the manufacturing city of LAGTOWN. Eliminate enemy assets and capture the city of Chernogorsk. This will deal a severe blow to enemy production capabilities. Expect to perform house-to-house combat as you clear the city unless you utilize armor or air strikes to burn it to the ground!

Optional Objectives:
-Optional: Perform a surprise attack on the main enemy airbase in the North. Destroy their air force as it sits on the tarmac!
-Optional: Perform a surprise attack on the enemy tank depot in the city of Elektrozavodsk. Destroy their armor as it sits idle!

Note on Optional Objectives: Bypassing these two may end up with you receiving some inbound enemy reinforcements (which are tracked on your map) but it's nothing you can't handle right?

L33 would you be kind enough to post up your config files/e-mail me them please for me please, we are on basically identical rigs (apart from your CPU) - e-mail in trust if not its cool :)

Just trying to get to the bottom of my issues.

One more question do I need to set CCC to do programme settings for things like AA etc or do I force 16x AA and what not.
Thanks
Sure, I'll send them over to you when I'm home tonight :)
The only things I've forced in CCC is Catalyst AI (On and set to advanced) and image quality or whatever it is to best quality. I also use ati traytools to force vsync off.

you'll have to let us know how it is as I'm tempted by one
The TrackIR takes a few days to get used to (and get set up to suit you) but once you've used it theres definately no going back. I got mine at the beginning of the week and while I could see the potential, I was struggling with the default profiles when I was infantry (planes/helos were fine) due to it being too sensitive and/or having a deadzone that was too large making it feel very un-natural. Shadowze sent me his arma2 trackir profile but in the end I made one from scratch, I think everyone is different in terms of what they prefer. Now I've got all the curves/deadzones etc set up perfectly for me it is awesome.... really really good for infantry and I don't know how I flew choppers etc before - landing choppers quickly and safely without autohover in 1st person is now a breeze :)

when I create a profile, in the .exe bit do I point this to the Arma.exe?
Yeah either that or just make it the default profile if you want vsync disabled for all games, either way will work fine :)

I would be interested until Aion came out in September then that will be my main focus.
Aion? Never heard of it!
EDIT: Googled, looks like another wow type genre game :( Thought it was going to be something for a second lol.

Shadowze put a couple of non-ai (player v player) maps on last night that we could try.

EDIT: I've just enabled ultraAI=1 on the server and increased their skill to max, while leaving their accuracy at the current setting so lets see if they're any better tonight!

Download latest beta driver and profiles form the link you get in the box.
The non-beta (v4) software doesn't look as pretty but it is much more stable, gives less tracking errors, no random flickering and doesn't break windows cleartype!
