Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

Ok small updates to server:
  • All coop missions less than 30 players removed (thanks wombraider & taggart for pointing them out!)
  • 10 new missions added (thanks wombraider, added 7 of your 8 but one was co07)
  • Updated CO30-The Longest Day to v1.03, hopefully will fix the factory bug (man how many satchels did we use in total?! :D)
  • Removed 3rd person view from higher difficulty levels as requested
  • Another attempt at optimizing the bandwidth settings, hopefully should see less yellow/red links.

Oh and I picked up a new microphone, so see you on TS :)

Quick question , how many lines are there in the ban.txt file ?
Soooo many knobs , so little time :-)
22 :) Although some players have been kicked rather than banned, but I notice each night there are less and less idiots on the server :)

Just going to add a small section on the first post about rules etc. Well not rules but guidelines. Nothing more annoying than a team leader who just ****s off and does his own thing leaving his team to wander round wondering what to do...

I've got around 150 screenshots from the MP games we've played but here are a few good'uns resized :) Starting with gord making friends with some trees in his blackhawk :D

are we playing tongiht?
I know I definately will be :)

I totally don't have any recollection of ever crashing any air vehicles.. ever.. I am safe!
I was standing on the hill near that house thinking, that chopper is going very fast and very low.... then even lower and even faster..... OH **** RUN :D
Admittedly though when we have yourself and that Hammer guy as pilots we just don't know how easy we have it. When the pair of you left the 2 new pilots were complete rejects!

Tried to join server and it asks for a password. Can't see the password mentioned here.

Anyone help please? :)
Unfortunately sounds like you tried to connect when the server was locked :( if we get a bunch of idiots on the server wombraider kicks them pretty swiftly and then locks the server for 10 minutes to prevent them keep trying to rejoin.
If next time you cant connect again, just jump on teamspeak and give us a shout :)

Good games last night. I do love the guided bombs on the harrier, got me that top spot on the scoreboard nicely :D
I wish I'd caught your first bombing run on fraps that was just awesome. I was slowly advancing up towards the town with about 10 other guys when I heard a jet behind me, looked up, could just about make you out through the sunlight as the massive crackle of you belting overhead shook the screen a bit, 5 seconds later when you was out of sight a massive BOOM of the town going up followed by a 200ft wall of dirt flying upwards. Then we had to sit tight for 5 minutes until the thick smoke cleared before we could move in.
You just dont get that sense of realism in other games :D

Also apologies to knightstalker for saying 'what **** is shooting at our truck'. Infact it wasn't our truck and was me being the **** :D Just so used to the timewasting morons who join the server for no other reason than to shoot up all our supply trucks or bugger off in the MHQs.

Good games last night guys :) I kept getting called away towards the end so wasn't a great help, sorry! Good news is that we managed to complete all objectives on The Longest Day, so that bug is finally fixed :D
Getting increasingly irritated (as I can tell all of you are) with complete morons messing around on the server, they join, then feel the need to pick up every weapon in every crate and fire it at spawn, then jump in a chopper or plane and just bugger off on their own, usually crashing after 30 seconds. Banned/kicked so many last night I lost count. Its getting to the stage now where I think we should just permaban anyone not willing to work as a team. After all, its a team game and we only have 2/3 choppers between 30-40 players so taking a blackhawk and flying off to do whatever you want just makes everyones lives harder.
Didnt want to have to make 'rules' really, but I'm going to put some up on the first post and also in the MOTD of the server:

Server rules
  • One the MHQs are in position, leave them alone unless moving them OUT of danger. Messing around in the MHQs = ban
  • Using team resources (vehicles) to clear off and mess about by yourself = ban
  • Deliberate TK or shooting team vehicles = ban
  • Spamming rounds at base on in a group waiting for extraction = kick. Do it twice = ban
  • Trashtalk/racism/spamming in chat = ban
  • If you are a medic, HEAL when ordered.
  • Follow your officers/leaders ordered. Everyone gets lost once in a while but deliberately ignoring and going off to do your own thing = kick
  • Spamming the blackhawk side guns for no reason = kick. This attracts unwanted attention and gets everyone killed
Anyone have any they want to add? :P

The games were good last night, but its getting a little frustrating not being able to fly - im guessing its a rank thing but as someone who would be happy as larry ferrying people back and forth I guess im going to have to concentrate on killing things tonight to get the rank up.

Heres a general question, can you play edited maps on the server? I personally think factory would be a lot more fun with more oppo - dug in around the radio tower for instance. Who leaves their main method of comms on an island without any guards? Attacking that island in the face of withering enemy fire would be awesome. As it is now its a race to the top, and we still managed to lose 1 guy and get two injured. DOH!
Did you spawn in the pilot class? I think usually after 20 minutes you're granted pilot 'rights' IIRC.
As for the comms tower, that mission is pretty dynamic. Last time we played it there were 15-20 men dug in behind it. We all walked up to it then they tried to ambush us lol.
Similarly last time we landed at a certain spot south of the factory straight after destroying the tower, this time I marked the same spot and there were a pair of tanks there waiting for us!

i shall come and join you guys tonight hopefuly.
Good stuff, jump on TS too!
Forgot to mention about the NVGs last night... I'm surprised nobody had a seizure with them flickering light/dark, they clearly need some work before a mission is playable in the dead of night (that other mission just before dawn seems to work fine).
Felt really weird flying that chopper towards that costal town, quite fast and low with you guys in the back when my NVGs went pitch black, had to slow down/move and land completely on instructions from shadowze over TS as I literally could not see a thing. Just goes to show the teamwork is top notch :D

Going by what was happening to me, I think the NVG issue is due to HDR and the auto gain of the NVGs.... I never had any problems in the forests, it was only in towns and would go nuts right after something reflects/emits some light (lamppost, signpost, window etc), HDR kicks in so the NVGs gain turns down, goes so dark that HDR is gone, so the gain shoots back up quickly, which causes HDR to kick in and the vicious circle starts.

My mic is broken atm :( i do have a ps3 bluetooth but dont have a bluetooth dongle for it :(

I do however have a built in mic on my laptop but the chances of my laptop running this game at a decent settings is very very slim
No worries dude, it probably worth jumping on TS anyway to hear whats going on, if you want to that is! I had a duff mic too so the first time on TS I couldn't speak, but could at least hear where others were going or where they were being shot from etc :)

I'll be on xfire after work this evening - username is Lee82UK :)

Enjoyed last night but it was very hard to keep organised as was not as good as other nights, since this game was released on steam yesterday and in the US the day before the amount of counterstrike kids joining and trying to ruin the game has shot up tenfold. I think people are buying this expecting CS/COD, joining a MP game (ours :() and realising they can't bunny hop around with an awp so they just TK everyone, smash choppers up and generally annoy people. We banned more idiots in a single mission last night than we have done in the past 10 days.
I'm also going to vote in favour of passwording the server for OCUK and friends only until all the kids get bored and go back to whatever rock they crawled out from. That way we can actually play properly and do some decent teamwork without having to stop every 10 seconds to remove some idiot, and we can spend some time helping others that are new/lost etc.
Anyone for/against passwording the server?
Apologies to all for the moron that ruined your game for 15 mins while I was afk, didn't realise that only 1 admin could be logged in at a time. I found his ID this morning and added it to the banlist.
Also got annoyed and banned those 3 guys who were obviously friends that kept spawning, taking choppers to some random non-mission location, dumping them and then respawning - meaning guys that were actually playing properly had to wait 20 minutes between airlifts from the carrier. We dont mean to be fascist but if people want to just mess around they can set up their own server!
Rant over :P

I'd like to join a game multiplayer game sometime soon, but I'm a bit hesitant because I feel I'm pretty useless, more of a hazzard than an asset, although I mean well.

Does anyone know a group or server I could look into where the players are a bit on the forgiving side?
We welcome new players of any experience level on the server so feel free to join in :) we have time to help new players - the only players we dont want are those that are there to mess about and steal helicopters etc.
Its best to join TS especially if you are new to ArmA II and we can all help out where possible, also when joining the server try and join a squad that is lead by an OCUK member as we all play as a team etc.

Need a bit of help on the Navigation side too, the Vet levels is pretty cool but a bit of a steep learning curve.
Again join a squad lead by an OCUK member we're usually pretty good at keeping our teams updated in terms of waypoints/objectives etc, plus then you can also talk to us on TS to see whats going on :) Unfortunately on veteran there is no real way for squad leaders to help people that are not in their same squad.

No chance of an OcUK warfare server? coop is boring :(
Feel free to set one up ;)
Arma 2 server is exceptionally hungry in terms of cpu and bandwidth so running two on even the fastest servers is not going to work well. I'd gladly host another arma 2 server but can't afford to unless people want to contribute towards rack space costs, which just ends up getting messy :(

i will say one thing fella's, last nights TS was a complete jumble, it was hard to get a word in edge ways regarding forming up or finding people, or even trying to get across locations of targets.
Agreed, also some peoples microphones are so overly loud that they just distort and block everything else in TS and game when they talk. Unfortunately TS voice quality is much worse than ventrilo which doesnt help :( I would host us a vent server, but wombraider (shadowze) has done us a great favour hosting the TS.

I'm well up for squad play but how do you join a squad? and how do squads actually operate can you keep close tabs on squad memebrs etc? are they identified differently than just regular units? Main thing being once you get shot how easy is it to regroup with members still in the field? Guess you try your best to get a chopper to the mission area with other respawned members?
When you join the server you should see the lobby, with a list of squads (usually something like 1-1-A through to 1-1-E, sometimes seperate squads for engineers etc) - at the top of that squad you should see the leader, and there are sub leaders (fire team leaders). The way it should work is that each squad has its own pilot, so if you get killed you will respawn at base and your pilot (or another if they're going the same way) will drop you back near the action. The good pilots we have on the server just constantly shuttle between the target zone and the spawn/HQ.
The way we have veteran set up on the OCUK server you should always be able to see your squad/fire team leaders icon (a diamond with 2 stripes etc) to see where they are. If you're lost just ask your leader to set you a waypoint/objective. You'll pick it up pretty quickly especially if you are on TS :)

Welcome to the forums Hammer - the one man air transport team :D
Thank you for all your hard work with the airlifts we'd literally be lost without you on the server! Look forward to playing many more games with you :)
Don't you ever get bored of (quote from shadowze) 'ferrying our lazy behinds round all day'? :D

Can't remember whether it is air cavalry or carparkaction which has harriers/f35s/various choppers but whichever it is we should put that on tonight - would be awesome with both of you guys flying (gord & hammer).
Hammer can chopper us out with laser designators, we'll laze the targets and gord can bomb them to hell :)

I havent had chance to read all the new posts but just to update/reply a few things:

The server is not currently (not has ever been) passworded - see below for reason. If you are trying to join and you are asked for a password, it means we've had to temporarily lock the server. Every now and then the server gets inundated with teamkilling kids so they are all removed and the server locked so the geniune players can continue with the current objective etc. Just shout on TS and we'll unlock so you can join and then relock if necessary.
The reason the server isn't passworded yet is simply because of player numbers. There is only a small handful of very regular players, so if we password the server there may be only a few people playing - we need the extra numbers from the public and although there are lots of teamkillers etc, there are also some very good and genuine players that become regulars (i.e. Hammer :)).

For those saying they were lost and didn't know what to do, we already said join TS as typing long instructions etc mid-firefight isnt exactly easy, and also join a squad that is lead by an OCUK member. Follow them and the objectives they set you and you'll pick it up. With Arma you have to put in some effort to get maximum enjoyment, it isn't a quick 2 minute blast like CS etc.

Also just to confirm what somebody else said, the best time to play on the server is usually between 8pm and some time after midnight, as you'll find most of the regulars on and at least 1 admin to boot the kids.

Except when Shadow was shouting at me because I was driving around in an APC that happened to be the MHQ lol.
Unfortunately there are so many game-ruining people that purposely come on and do stupid stuff like moving the MHQs into combat areas, shooting down our choppers and destroying bases etc that its a second reaction to go nuts at someone as soon they move the MHQ, so apologies if this has happened to anyone by mistake, its not personal :P
