Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

Thats strange? i thought we all had an agreement that it will be password protected not locked?

I don't think it was agreed, more that most people think it is a good idea, but the final decision is down to L33 as he controls the server.
To be honest we all thought it was a good idea to put the TS address on the server, but that came back to bite us yesterday when a couple of idiots came on and started playing music, singing and insulting shadowze.

Anyway, that is probably the longest I have ever spent sat playing one game, normally I don't have the concetration, but it is just so much fun as a team. And, even though it was only about my second time playing the game, I was still in the top 5/6 on the leaderboard. Anyone who says the controls are too difficult is wrong.

Joined one of the OCUK servers for a short time yesterday.
Didn't have a clue what the hell I was doing.
I ran hither and then thither and then in a few circles.
Saw a few people standing around. They didn't shoot at me so I assume they were on my team.
Got into a helicopter and the pilot took one look at me and bailed.
Drove a lorry into some woods and felt all alone.
Looked at some pretty symbols on the map.
Shot at an airplane passing overhead with my pistol but it didn't crash.
Ran across an airfield and had a lot of people stare at me.
Reported myself injured but received no reaction from anyone.
Ran a bit more.
Exited.

I was there for that, it gave us quite a few giggles hearing the "player kicked" sound.

Mild satisfaction came from that.

It felt like a real world last night, dropped out went for tea and came back and the war is still been fought. Straight back in with my rifle and comrades. :D

LOL you need to communicate with others to get the best out of this game. if you have no clue what to do ASK. i did and know what to do half of the time.

I have to say,

this was a long war! lol

adrenaline was pumped into my veines when we did that emergency landing..:D

What I dont really like at Domination is just that every town has the same targets.. was a bit bored after a long time..

Also some idiots wasted all the choppers and planes which mostly gord and me brought back to airfield and repaired them..

Maybe AirCav would be a better replacement for Domination and long fights!

I've been playing the past few nights and have been enjoying it. Except when Shadow was shouting at me because I was driving around in an APC that happened to be the MHQ lol.

Might I suggest the setting up of a Ocuk Arma 2 clan. I had the idea that we could have several different sections:
HQ
Fireteams
- A
- B etc
Airsupport
Tanks and other vechiles

If we had enough people in the clan it could work and that way each person knew what they could do and what others were able to do. Setting up a website and forum wouldn't be too hard either. Just a thought.

L33 if you want to discuss this, add me to msn (in trust)

I'd be up for a different map, wanna do some flying.

Hammer, your landings were pretty damn awesome I have to admit. Great adrenaline rush when flying in your choppers.

pointless. lets just stick to this clan as it will just split this one up and wont have a high player count that we have for this clan now. i can come on any evening and expect some of you to be on but if we split the clan up the chances of me joining in a near full server with you guys is slim as not everyone plays this game to death

I'm not saying we create another clan, all I'm suggesting is that we regiment this one a bit more to give it more of a sim feel to playing.

I havent had chance to read all the new posts but just to update/reply a few things:

The server is not currently (not has ever been) passworded - see below for reason. If you are trying to join and you are asked for a password, it means we've had to temporarily lock the server. Every now and then the server gets inundated with teamkilling kids so they are all removed and the server locked so the geniune players can continue with the current objective etc. Just shout on TS and we'll unlock so you can join and then relock if necessary.
The reason the server isn't passworded yet is simply because of player numbers. There is only a small handful of very regular players, so if we password the server there may be only a few people playing - we need the extra numbers from the public and although there are lots of teamkillers etc, there are also some very good and genuine players that become regulars (i.e. Hammer :)).

For those saying they were lost and didn't know what to do, we already said join TS as typing long instructions etc mid-firefight isnt exactly easy, and also join a squad that is lead by an OCUK member. Follow them and the objectives they set you and you'll pick it up. With Arma you have to put in some effort to get maximum enjoyment, it isn't a quick 2 minute blast like CS etc.

Also just to confirm what somebody else said, the best time to play on the server is usually between 8pm and some time after midnight, as you'll find most of the regulars on and at least 1 admin to boot the kids.

Except when Shadow was shouting at me because I was driving around in an APC that happened to be the MHQ lol.
Unfortunately there are so many game-ruining people that purposely come on and do stupid stuff like moving the MHQs into combat areas, shooting down our choppers and destroying bases etc that its a second reaction to go nuts at someone as soon they move the MHQ, so apologies if this has happened to anyone by mistake, its not personal :P

I'm more used to playing cod4, it took me few hours to get used and to actually enjoy the game. My ati 4890 is arriving this afternoon, hopefully it will make the game more enjoyable.

I really fancy a game of this tonight. I'm pretty hopeless at the mo though and haven't even tried online. My mine gripe is that I find it difficult to know where I'm actually supposed to be going or where I actually am. Why can't you see where you are on the map?

Not a problem. I didn't know it was the MHQ but do now :)

Any comment about my idea about a clan and more structured appoarch to teams?

Added some FAQs to the first post that should help out a little...

Why can't you see where you are on the map?
Because it is more realistic. Look at the coordinates on your GPS and its pretty easy to tell where you are give or take a few metres.
On the easy difficulty levels you can see where you are on the map though.

its a good idea when we have 50 regular players, we can think about doing it, but untill then its a bit pointless as we need to be flexable who does what with 10/15 regs on...

my opinion anyway.

Well most nights the TS server has around 20-25 people playing each night which is at least a start :)

Couple of Squads right there.

split those regulars over 3-4 squads and let the pubs fill the odd gaps. Means we have the wealth of experience spread over the entire team.

Yeah that's what I was saying. For example Hammer and Gord could be the pilots, I could shuttle the MHQ and ammo trucks, L33 and Shadow could be the commanders etc Simples :D lol
