One more question do I need to set CCC to do programme settings for things like AA etc or do I force 16x AA and what not.

The only things I've forced in CCC is Catalyst AI (On and set to advanced) and image quality or whatever it is to best quality. I also use ati traytools to force vsync off.

The TrackIR takes a few days to get used to (and get set up to suit you) but once you've used it theres definately no going back. I got mine at the beginning of the week and while I could see the potential, I was struggling with the default profiles when I was infantry (planes/helos were fine) due to it being too sensitive and/or having a deadzone that was too large making it feel very un-natural. Shadowze sent me his arma2 trackir profile but in the end I made one from scratch, I think everyone is different in terms of what they prefer. Now I've got all the curves/deadzones etc set up perfectly for me it is awesome.... really really good for infantry and I don't know how I flew choppers etc before - landing choppers quickly and safely without autohover in 1st person is now a breeze :)

Looks a bit laggy on the chopper dismount, is that common in game?
 
I bought the game yesterday and am enjoying it so far. It doesnt run the best on my computer though, get terrible fps at some points. I tried online and I can read the map of where to go, but thats about it. I have downloaded teamspeak so will use that when I play. I'm looking forward to an ocuk game :). Will there be one tonight?
 
I am waiting for the next lot of cards to come out, and I just upgraded to the I7 from an AMD 3500 so didnt fancy spending any more lol. Arma is the only game I play where the 8800 struggles :(
 
ill be buying a IR tracker my self, going to my suppliers of hardware for work and seing what i can get on price but deffo want one :D

In regards to the vsync thing
To answer your other questions:
Vsync option is in the ATi control panel, but if you're running vista or win 7 you'll need ati traytools to disable it - go to Game Profiles > Manage Profiles. Create one if you dont have a default one already, the disable vsync - vista workaround option is in the Direct3D Tweaks tab.

In regards to that, when I create a profile, in the .exe bit do I point this to the Arma.exe?

Do it - we're a long way off anything Dx11, hell - we're a long way off Dx10 implementation.

You could wait forever for new cards, just keep buying £150 bang-for-buck cards and sell them for £100 every 6-12 months.
 
Huh, OcUK team? What have I missed? I would be interested until Aion came out in September then that will be my main focus.

I would be a medic if there is any space left for them as I am sure snipers etc are all taken!

I dont know, had a moment yesterday where I flanked a town and caught a group of enemy out in the open. Mowed down 16 of them with my ACOG rifle, but rather than feeling elated (my biggest k/d ratio since i started playing) I just got a bit annoyed. The problem with the AI is that theyre, well AI. All they could do was crawl round in circles and be targets. duck shoot.

Last night the general gameplay was - new target identified, cobra goes in and kills the armour and starts mowing down the infantry, harrier bombs the centre of town, choppers pick up the MHQs and infantry from last job, drops them at target, by then most enemy dead, mop up begins with infantry who have arrived now and bam, another town gone. Even the large town (lag-ville) didnt put up much oppo to what was an exceedingly well executed combined arms attack. the biggest danger to the choppers was flying into each other.

The good players on the server are getting very good and the ai stays the same. I think my ideal would be for the ai to be controlled in some way so that surprises could happen, reinforcements made up of more than 5 guys jumping from a chopper, a counterattack of more than 1 tank and an apc.

Yeah either that or just make it the default profile if you want vsync disabled for all games, either way will work fine :)

Aion? Never heard of it!
EDIT: Googled, looks like another wow type genre game :( Thought it was going to be something for a second lol.

Shadowze put a couple of non-ai (player v player) maps on last night that we could try.

EDIT: I've just enabled ultraAI=1 on the server and increased their skill to max, while leaving their accuracy at the current setting so lets see if they're any better tonight!

Looking forward to trying the player vs player maps to be honest... That could be interesting...

I wonder if you could have player vs player vs AI, like 2 teams, a AI village and you have to capture the village via a flag or something, not sure if thats possible.

Yea Aion is a WoW type game :D
