First thing you will want to grab is a mic. and teamspeak.

Now arma2 is a game with a massive modding community and 99% of clans out there will have different mod requirements but whichever clan you choose will be able to sort you out modwise.

Best way to start Is to find an arma2 co-op clan. Register on their website and hop on their server/teamspeak and start chatting/gaming

Once you start working in a group. with an experienced fireteam/squad leader and stuff you will be hooked.

Now i play with a realism group called USSOCOM can find us at www.sfod-delta.com

But ill admit the realism side isnt for everyone and we have a LOT of trainings and stuff people go through.

United opperations are a clan we are friends with who are a lot more chilled out but still great fun to game with. I highly reccomend those guys.

There are many others out there that specialize in a lot of different things.

Our servers are public so you can always come on our teamspeak and server and just have fun as a "pubber" and see if you like it, maybe join at a later date if you like it :)

So after seeing the steam deal for £3.99 and almost buying. I came to this thread and found I really need to spend over £20 (Op Arrowhead £11.99, Arma 2 £3.99 and BAF DLC £4.79) to be in the game!!!

Considering you can get Crysis 2 for about £15 it's not much of a bargain really.

Arma provides so much more depth, provided you want to play a military simulator of course.

It will but if you join a group you will in all likely hood need arma 2 as well to play on Chenorous island.

Guys arma isn't really an mp game like bf or cod, there isn't really gametypes in it, the community makes missions for their own groups or they release them on armaholic.com Their are some missions that people made called warfare and domination, they are ok to begin with but arma is way less confusing if you join a group and get them to help you on teamspeak, you will also experience far more immersive games.

I love arma but my experience seriously increased when i joined a group.

crysis 2 will last u a weeks play whilst all of the arma 2 expansions plus the zillions of mods and missions/campaigns you download for free will last you until Arma 3 comes out

you can get the 17.99 dlc pack that came out a few weeks ago and play MP on all OAH BAF and PMC servers, you just dont have the OAH campain, just the BAF and PMC sp. seems to be So much smother than Arma2.

The arrowhead patches has made arma 2 default and operation arrowhead so much more smooth.

The latest 1.59 patch did the game wonders.
 
Theres no real reason not to just buy Arma 2 and play it. At worst you'd be going through all the single player missions which means commanding your AI teammates

Online it gets more complicated and might need arrowhead as thats a major add on
 
Just bought Arrow Head and the 2 DLC thanks to steams nice deal. I used to play this with you guys when it first came out. Was brilliant fun when we had the server full of ocukers doing missions together taking out enemy bases.

We should really get back into this game again, is there still an ocuk server?
