***ArmA 3 Thread***

todays dev branch update claims tohave fixed two long standing and annoying bugs in A3, might be worth running it till the next stable update:

EXE rev. 106951

New: Interface Layout configuration tool added to Game Options
Multiplayer missions sometimes failed with "All players have died" ending, even though some players were still alive and respawn slots available. Problem potentially hotfixed, but might still occur (http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=10324)
Fixed: AMV map icon too small (http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=9950)
Switching weapon modes doesn't require two key presses when the weapon info IGUI is hidden anymore
Added: Wind synchronization in MP
Adjusted radius of Zamak destroyed wheels
Zamak now has correct wheels destroyed by shooting
HEMTT now has correct destruction of cargo part
GM6 rate of fire has been adjusted
Gunner and driver of class Car and its children now use optics to detect targets
Fixed: Items disappear during inventory operations (http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=9367)
Tweaked collision damage to vehicles. They now should be a bit more resistant, mostly at lower speeds
Fixed: Unable to take weapons from non-local containers
Fix and slight optimization of detection of Simul Weather optimization
Fixed: MP unable to throw grenades after taking vest from ground
Tweaking of wheels and suspension of both APCs (floating in air)

no more tyre popping at 5kph and no more dragging stuff out of a car onto the ground to pick it up!

I tried to fly the other day after I updated to the beta.

Can't believe how bad the flight mechanics are just now.. That's the problem with flying the DCS Huey and BS2 just now...

Yup, it's still pretty terrible isn't it! To make it worse, apparently they are NOT going to implement the ToH flight stuff

Seriously?

Well that's the game screwed as a form of Mil Sim.

Or as usual, they will wait until someone mods it in!

I'm sure that's what they said, I'll try and dig up the post.

Edit - I might be making this up actually. I can only find a quote from a dev saying this:

Take On helicopter flighmodel WILL BE also in Arma3. Now I can safely confirm it will be also in campaing and it will be DEFAULT flightmodel for ALL the helicopters.

Hopefully it gets into MP as well.

None of this flying a circle while vertical nonsense when the FM gets introduced!

Think you will see a lot of complaints when the TOH model gets placed into game, as it takes a hell of a lot more precise control to what it is at the moment!

I am hopeful that they will have one setting only for the flight model, in TOH they have beginner to pro. Hoping for pro only :)

Think the ToH stuff is very much in limbo, main reason against is that is supposedly very cpu intensive (saw a post claiming 10-15fps loss but i cant remember where it was or how accurate it is).

Would love to see it in - make it optional so people dont complain too much eg; off in recruit/regular and on in veteran/expert

I bought this game on release after reading good things about it, but I have never played a Arma game before. I thought I would try it anyway as I think I could get into it but I must have fired it up around 4 times now and quit after 10 minutes as I have no idea how to do ANYTHING. Is there a good guide that someone can point me to please that would cover everything from game types, mods, controls etc. Knowing how to join a server properly and where to spawn would be a good start, I spend around 3 minutes clicking around the screen trying to get into a server and spawn.

The new Coop 10 mission they added is amazing fun! Have to old off against 5 waves of enemy, getting darker and darker as it goes on. Each wave gets harder but you also get to spawn in with slightly better load outs than before.

Will defo be running this again tomorrow night before Invade and Annex/Insurgency if anyone is interested.

Anyone reckon I can run this? Not looking for ultra settings as I know I won't get anywhere near, but can I play the SP/Coop Missions/MP at a decent framerate?

its a simulation, you have to remember that. dont come into this thinking anything different or your going to be disappointed. its slow and methodical but you can have a lot of fun especially if people are communicating well.

The server browser is the same as most other games, run the refresh wait a bit then search by population. Look for the Annexe servers DO NOT play on wasteland thats a separate mod that is like survival and nothing like the core game.
On joining a server, it may download a pack of information and then will allow you to select your position. This gives you a default loadout or special skillset (like medic, spotting enemies, piloting) once selecting you will spawn in your base.

As for playing , a few basics:
* Middle mouse button is the menu button, it enables you to get in vehicles, swap guns etc. (to get in a vehicle walk up to it and the cursor will change to a seat press middle mouse button then select GET IN)
* Left mouse is fire, HOLD right mouse to zoom, tap right mouse to scope. Whilst scoped HOLD right mouse to breath in
* G is grenades, I is inventory, CTRL-G is swap grenades/smokes
* X,C, controls crouching, lieing down etc
* SHIFT is run (you have stamina - screen goes fuzzy)
* V is getting over walls etc
* M is Map it tells you where the action is , or alternaitvely get in a piloted heli and they will take you there.

thats it really. Go play on a Annexe server with peps on it (its PVE) , never get in vehicles unless they are piloted by others and just follow the crowd, at spawn you will see people hanging by the helipads - they are waiting to get picked up, you should wait too.
Always seek cover unless you like dieing, use scope to try and find enemies on hills, only push when your team is pushing, once objective complete heli will pick you up and either take you to base to get more ammo or to the next objective ... rinse and repeat.

at the moment the game is heavily infantry based, on release it will ramp up with vehicle combat aswell and thats where you see enemies with planes and helis etc and it gets a bit mental.
