***ArmA 3 Thread***

Tried for 5 mins this morning on wasteland and spawned at the airfield and getting 50+ fps on mostly very high and ultra so if it stays like that ill be happy

Had a go last night. Seems like a solid improvement over Arma2 but I wish there was a way to rest weaponry on terrain. Not sure if this is possible with bipod attachments though?

The recoil is blatantly not tweaked yet as it's way too over the top I think. A.I. seems to be quite a bit better than Arma2 but early days and hard to tell until some solid play time has been had. Graphics and sound are the most impressive features for me.

It still ultimately plays like Operation Flashpoint from 2001 but that's not a bad thing. Just goes to show how ahead of the time the original OFP was. So much has basically never changed (such as basic controls, radio system, various elements of interface).

Recoil seems very realistic to me, hit the dirt or adopt lower, more supported fire positions.

Stuck a pretty good mission on, there's 10 control points that you have to attack in order as OpFor while BluFor have to to defend. Stuck it on mercenary difficulty so 1st person only. Just take the time to look before shooting, it's not hard to ID who is who.

You probably won't like the suggestion Melbo/TooTall :) Was reading on the RPS comments page and it was suggested there should be a small icon to show which stance you are currently using. Argument was basically in 1st person it's pretty much impossible to know what stance you are in but in real life your sensory/peripheral vision would allow you to know.

I was just thinking that would be a good idea for 1st person mode ;)

Although it's not a major issue, you just hit the deck behind cover then Ctrl + W till you can see what you need to!

I had to switch to 3rd person to find out which stance am in...so this would be a great idea.

And, for that reason, I'm out...

If you guys are going to stick to first party view only, then I'm afraid I won't be gaming with you guys much, if any..

I know you all appreciate the fact that it is a sim, but I enjoy using third party for many things, other than looking around a corner, just don't like first party all the time..

I only put it on to test that mission out, would be far too easy just to sit in a bush while using 3rd person to scout the area and camp out the capture zones.

Hi all. i wont be able to purchase this game until i am back at home so i have a few questions about this for people who have played it:

  • How is the controls and movement? similar to Arma 2 or more Battlefieldish ie more fluid and responsive?
  • Has anyone maxed out the game at 1080p with a decent quad core CPU and say a 580gtx?
  • What are the framerates like? anyone finally getting 60fps and above on max settings? at what res?
  • Gun sounds: have they improved dramatically? sound more realisitic and loud?
  • Are all buildings enterable and fully destructible like in BF3?
  • Does the game uses the steam game server browser to select and join a server online?
  • Can u join a fellow friends server that they are in i.e in steams friends list, if u see them playing arma 3 in server A, u can click your friends name and click "join game" and it will automatically load your game and join in same server as your friend?

Thanks in advance

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Arma 3 Alpha didn't have multiplayer? How come you're all playing on wasteland servers with Arma 3 or am I misinterperating? Also do you know if the 500 supporters editions have been sold?

Same I like 3rd person for certain things.

Me too hard to know what stance your in without 3rd person plus driving in 3rd person is a lot easier.

  • Animations are way more fluid, you can enter buildings no problem and it seems like CQC will be much more fun this time around.

Still getting used to the recoil and the stance system they have added. So that is a little clunky but yes overall movement around the map is fluid.

The recoil is quite accurate in my opinion, firing from any standing unsupported position gives a fairly well represented level of recoil. Obviously varying from weapon to weapon.

Very much enjoying this so far, for an Alpha its superb.

All I mean is last night everyone on Opfor/Blufor looked the same colour tome. I don't want big floating "HERE THEY ARE!" tags or anything. Different(more) uniforms would help

I don't like being Friendly Fired and I don't like friendly firing others :)

Yeah I must admit I am having a bit of a struggle to tell who is who. Maybe a little tiny dot above a players head just to show he is on your side or something.
