***ArmA 3 Thread***

For me the game just oozes atmosphere, even in the editor where it's just you on the map walking around.
The weather effects are fantastic too, one thing i would like to see added is a few little sound effects in regards to weather though, E.g when you change to first person view, i'd like the sound of the rain and wind to be far more noticeable.
The pitter patter of rain drops hitting your helmet, the wind howling and trees creaking as you walk through a wooded area, there's no greater depressing noise than rain hitting your helmet while you crawl into Op/sentry position or lay motionless in a field.
small details that i feel would have a huge effect in adding to the realism.

I agree. I am still in awe of that first mission in Hidden & Dangerous where you're in the rain, going across the railway bridge... :o
 
The optimization is pretty dire for me in multiplayer, it may say 45-50fps sometimes it but it feels laggy!

Apart from that zombie mod coming up, this has been the worst purchase so far!

Most of us paid £19.99 for alpha release, the game hasn't even been released yet and the content is continually growing. I cannot even imagine the assets that will be at our disposal 6-12 months down the line.

Most of us only picked up Arma 2 because of Day Z. This was when Arma 2 had already gone through multiple DLC content and god knows how many beta patches.

Arma 3 is a game people will go back to time and time again because new content is being generated by the Arma community daily. How on earth you can describe that as a waste of money is any ones guess...
 
Rest of the release content (tanks, arty, statics etc.) should be coming to dev branch on sept 4th!

I thought they were afraid of releasing too much before retail sale. For example the GTA5 soundtrack lifted from ps3 pre load

Im playing on ssd and it was hitching but eventually it seemed to smooth out. BF2 engine did this, you fly over the map once to load it into memory then its ok generally.
I noticed 7 gig main memory and 2.2 gig used on gfx with no AA


I owned Arma2 from release and it improved considerably. Both in looks but also performance, it just ran better (this was +arrowhead mostly). Obviously the mods can add a lot, I like the sound in Pr mod for Bf2 where they literally visited an army base with the sound gear and stood 6 feet away and it shows when you playing. Hopefully that will come to A3 in time

The whole point of having the dev branch (and to a lesser degree, public alpha/beta) was to testing all the experimental/unstable/unfinished stuff and report back so that it could be as good as possible at launch. Can't really test stuff we don't have can we? Also its only being released a week before launch and we still wont be seeing any of the new showcases/missions until the launch either.

I do hope they bring back the opening/closing door animations for vehicles at some point. It only made an appearance on the dev branch for a day or two but imo it made things look MUCH neater.
 
A couple of mates and I had a good old explore session last night with Altis. Threw a module in to be able to skip time by an hour. so we could flick through and see the day/night cycles and such.

What really blew me away was the dawn in particular. As the sun began to rise, with the early morning low hanging mist, skirting through a small stream bed avoiding a KA, and trying to kill a small patrol so we could loot some AA. Just really stunned me.

And driving around on a stary moonlit night with nods off and using the vehicle lights.

I've not played A3 since alpha release and i completely forgot how mindblowinglygood the lighting is. The game, and this island is just stunning.

While the clan doesn't see arma3 even remotely viable as a platform in the next 3-4 months. We're extremely excited for that moment when it is able to offer the arma2 content we rely on. That will be an ace day.

Can I just ask how you set up the module to skip time by an hour? I'm pretty new to the editor :p
 
They can't record sounds for A3 weapons as this time around they aren't real world weapons.

Nice thing is all the unoffical mods, no chance of this on most engines now


Probably has been said but theres another update to download for anyone just logging on today. There is some amazing views on this map, not sure if its higher quality just seems like it
 
DL the file from armaholic > put in mission folder (not mpmissions) and change the word straitis to altis and you are done.

Just to try it out I'd give yourself max command points as the CBU shells are just hilarious.

One word of warning is while the heli taxi is great, sometimes it decides there is no way he is going to land and drop you off, so you just sit there indefinitely until you restart from an earlier saved point. Hence now I just use the hemitt to get around :D

EDIT...Oh and anyone up for a mission or two tonight? Will be on and ready for a nice bit of COOP in about an hour
