ARMA2 & OFP2 who else cant wait

So which is the one to get? They both look great.

What are the latest release dates for these?

Not sure which will be the best yet although from what I've seen so far I'm leaning towards ArmA 2, if I only had to get one. It's a bit early to tell though.

ArmA 2 is out at the end of June and OFP2 is the end of July. Can't wait for both. :D

Yeah i am drifting more towards Arma2 at the moment. I dont particularly want to get both as I would only end up playing one or the other. Cant see them offering anything different from eachother.

I guess I will have to wait for the previews. Ideally would like to know before release as you cant normally get better prices for games then.

Well when OFP2 was first announced and previewed, those sweet videos and interviews spouting about realism and attention to detail had me sold. But as more screenshots and videos are released its just not looking up to what they promised. Granted its still in beta but I cant see it living up to operation flashpoint one +expansions.

When a game is getting developed for both consoles and PC the devs always say that its not going to be a poor port, its not going to be limited feature wise to cater for the console limitations. But as we have seen the OFP2 multiplayer is has already failed to live up to OFP. Limited to 4 player coop? Sounds like a console limit to me. When videos of a cross platform game get released and they are all taken on the consoles (usually 360) you know you will see signs of it in the final product.

I know what to expect with ArmA2, its going to be buggy on release, its going to be buggy even after a few patches. But it has the dedicated fan base from the original OFP which means that after a few months (shouldn't take as long because people will be used to the ArmA code) there will be mods for everything, and after a year or so there will be the big mods that totally change the game.

So in summary,

ArmA 2 = A sure bet, buggy on release, you know what to expect and its got the dedicated fanbase.

OFP2 = Probably show signs of sharing development with the consoles, will carry a few of the console limitations as well. I think in the end it will just be ArmA/OFP lite.

Both games are cross platform.

OFP2 is PC and PS3 (not sure about xbox)
Arma2 is PC and xbox

Have you got a source for this?

I'm pretty sure there'll be more than just 4 player co-op online, and that there's gonna be some sort of head to head large player game modes also.

Interview if I remember, all I know is that its not got as many players as the original OFP or the ArmA series, that was a major draw for me, I loved the spontanious teamwork that came from the ArmA Evolution map. I just dont see that sort of scale being possible.

Mark my words, OFP2 will be OFP/Arma Lite.

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Flashpoint_2 Some details on the multiplayer modes there. There is 8 player coop on the PC, far from the scale of OFP/Arma but we'll see.

I'll be getting ArmA2 even though ArmA wasn't anything like as good as OFP. I just hope that they can recapture the feeling of the original.

As for Dragon Rising I'll wait and see, Codies talk a good game but having tried their other efforts lately I'm more than a little sceptical. I would expect it to look pretty but that wouldn't be enough for me.
