An artist's plan to leave six taps running for a year at secret London locations has angered Thames Water.

Performance artist Mark McGowan says it is a protest against private control of water in the UK.
When challenged, his only argument was that he was not wasting water because it was art. It's not art - it's just a way to send everyone scurrying to the nearest toilet. It probably has more to do with the student protests of the 80s.

If he really thought it was art, he'd use a recirculating pump like everyone else. It's not hard. It's just wasteful and selfish. As far as I'm concerned, for punishment he should be made to live off a typical third world water supply.

/rant over. I don't normally use , but this fool convinced me otherwise. :)

I first heard this story back in the summer though i'm not sure why it's resurfaced in the news again.

Though like most art I find it a complete waste of time.

He's going to try and do it again. Last time they stopped him, iirc.

I think it's a waste and it could be used for so many other uses.

This is how idiotic talentless people get through uni... they take an art course with numerous skilled painters and line artists etc. and do crap like this

What a complete waste of time and resources.

Is the water going to be resent through the taps or is it acutally off the mains and going down the sewer??

Also its not really a waste as surley they reuse a lot of water or do they just flush it into rivers still?

Just a thought

Also how does this idiot actually earn an income from this?

Its going down into the sewer, so that water will need to be treated and I wonder how much is costs to treat 100 million litres

Ordinarily, the people who make neanderthal threads criticising modern art with comments like "modern art is all crap i mean jeez cut a cow in half wtf is up with that lol " annoy me senseless, but in this case the waste trumps the art value IMO. Although, it would appear a recirculating pump would defeat his entire message (however asinine you might consider that message).

"I understand we are in a drought. But I am an artist so I'm not actually wasting water for nothing."

Its alright then.

Anybody know where I can get tickets?

Thing is nobody need ever know he's using a recirculating pump, I assume anyway. <<< Not a pump expert

Wasn't there also some modern art display which consisted of someone switching a lighbulb on and off.

This is, prehaps, even more ridiculous than that.
