Art or waste?

Technically it is art, because it has thought behind it and evokes a reaction in people. Although don't get me wrong, I think it's dreadful and he should be shot :D

Yeah totally man!
I'm proper sick of the sistine chapel! For gods sake, Michelangelo could have used that paint to do something good! Selfist ******

I think he needs this t-shirt

I don't see the point, then again, I don't see how England of all countries can have a problem with water usage.
A couple of reasons there is a problem:

1. Our water infrastructure is old and useless.

2. The last couple of years have been *very* dry, especially for the South-East. I can only remember a few days when there has been significant rain, and it hasn't been for long.

As for this "artist", he seems like a complete waste of space. He isn't after highlighting any issues. He's just after swelling his own ego and getting himself in the newspapers.

^ We have maybe 1/5 of the rain you guys have back home in Greece, yet we don't have major problems, in some islands there are small situations, it just strucks me as an odd that there could be such a problem here.

Cause apparently we're in a drought.

It doesn't really make sence having drought and England in the same sentence.

It does, we have had heavy rain once in the last 3 months and light rain maybe 3 times. Never lasted longer than a few hours either.

Thats being daft...all modern artists ;)
Ok, I'll go halfway and agree with you there.

But can we just shoot this artist first? I'll do it personally.

"I understand we are in a drought. But I am an artist so I'm not actually wasting water for nothing."

Its alright then.

Anybody know where I can get tickets?

Going by his logic, a serial killer could just say "I understand killing is wrong. But I'm an artist so I'm not wasting a life for nothing."

So much "art" is just completely ridiculous. This guy is just a complete fruitcake. The things he does are like what they do on things like trigger happy TV but at least they don't claim it's art.

Waste where the art? wheres the thought provoking, the design, the art if you will. Its like the 2 bus stops, or the room with a light in it. A waste of money and time and should not get grants.

Bingo :) There's only so much water that can come from Reservoirs/Boreholes/Lakes/Rivers etc and it's hugely dependant on the natural water source of Rain. It's not such a problem up here as we a) have smaller population and b) have more rain but England are reaching a point where it's going to be a common occurrence. Although your point about it being the water infrastructure isn't really relevant, that only affects the pressure and flow you will get when you turn your tap on and could be being artificially controlled, there is only a finite amount of water in the network at any one time and that's when the hose pipe ban will come into effect as the Service Reservoirs and Water Tanks/Towers become dangerously low, and the topup isn't enough to cope with demand.

The poor infrastructure is more of an issue for proposed housing construction as the majority of the network is a fair whack of years old now, and as above has a knock on effect on pressure and flow, which in some cases means you can't actually build additional houses in some areas because the network cannot cope.

As long as he pays for it then let him leave his 6 taps on for a year! The only reason the water companies want him to stop is because it's more publicity about their shocking system. I bet more water is wasted out of pipes with holes in, in the south-east of England in a minute than will be used by the 6 taps in the year.

Is this the same "artist" who went around London last year keying random cars up? If it is indeed him, then I saw an interview with him on TV at the time, and he said that the cars' owners should feel honoured, as their keyed vehicles were now works of art. I remember that the reporter was dumbstruck after that comment, and I was positively fuming.

With that in mind, this art is just as wasteful as someone like Dan Flavin, who justr leaves flourescent lights on? (admittedly the aesthetic effect is far superior - I really like his work). Those lights could be in an office, letting someone do some work.

Frankly, as long as he's on a metered connection I'm quite happy for him to do as he pleases with the water he uses. If there is a shortage of water, then we should penalise heavy users by increasing the price, not by banning them.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Edit: okay, this guy is a bit of a pillock judging from that link, but my comments on people hating modern art still stand :)
