Art or waste?

Hmmmmm, does being randomly subscribed to mailing lists constitute art?

Not my suggestion you understand, just a mere philoshopical question.

Is this the same "artist" who went around London last year keying random cars up? If it is indeed him, then I saw an interview with him on TV at the time, and he said that the cars' owners should feel honoured, as their keyed vehicles were now works of art. I remember that the reporter was dumbstruck after that comment, and I was positively fuming.

He can come and key my car if he wants although he won't be walking away the fat ****. Why does he live what a waste of a human.

Every day, around 946 million litres leak from Thames Water's pipes.
And although it is the worst offender, it is not the only one: in 2003-2004 water companies leaked a staggering 3,600m litres a day.

Although I couldn't find exact figures for what I said, what I have found is pretty damning. The entire country's water network loses 3.6 billion litres a day which is one trillion three hundred fourteen billion (1,314,000,000,000) litres in a year! As a percentage of that total waste, the artist's taps will use 0.00761035008%.

He's got you all talking, so his art worked.

Also I daresay there's a few people who have sprinklers, or always take a bath instead of a shower, or have wasteful toilets, or leaky taps, who have thought "what a waste" in relation to this art. If this has made them think about the realy value of water, then it is a success.

With the greatest respect, that is irrelevant. The fact remains that this twit is purposefully wasting water, and then using "but it's art" as an excuse.

Absolute stupid idea but he would waste less water doing this than is lost to leaks in the pipes owned by the water companies in the year. As one leak was losing 1 million gallons/litres of water a day at one time. To do this when others will be under hose pipe bans is asking for trouble and he should be stopped as it is proving he is just an idiot.

Is it art? No chance, as others have said here attention seeker only.

When challenged, his only argument was that he was not wasting water because it was art. It's not art - it's just a way to send everyone scurrying to the nearest toilet. It probably has more to do with the student protests of the 80s.

If he really thought it was art, he'd use a recirculating pump like everyone else. It's not hard. It's just wasteful and selfish. As far as I'm concerned, for punishment he should be made to live off a typical third world water supply.

/rant over. I don't normally use , but this fool convinced me otherwise. :)

Oooohh, I'm an artist I can also turn a tap on !!!! :D

Being a geek here and decided to do a bit more research  The world ocean's contain 1,338,000,000 km³ of water which is 1.33800 × 10^21 litres. The Atlantic Ocean holds roughly 28% of the world's ocean's water so that's 3.7464 × 10^20 litres in it. The water lost in our country through broken pipes is 0.00000035% of that and the water used by this guy's art will be 0.000000000000266362253%! Completely useless and off-topic but staggering nonetheless!

No I don't think it is. For a start this art will have absolutely no negative effect on other people's water supplies so he should be allowed to do it if he so wishes (as long as he pays for it) and it highlights the fact that the water companies have decided to throw in the big figure of 100 million litres used by the taps in the year to scare people off, when in reality it's a tiny tiny fraction of what they lose through broken pipes.

I'm not so sure, it has got people talking and thinking about it and generally, that is what modern art does best... makes us question our reality...

Art, however, can generally be conisdered to be the expression of beauty. But modern art seems to be more about making statements, sometimes obvious and sometimes sublime. What would be even better is if he were to make the claim of turning on taps, then do nothing... very post-modern

I wonder if this guy would object to running him over in a Combine Harvester to protest at the prices paid to farmers ;)
Prize pillock, who should be taken away and be quietly disposed of- Maybe I could turn this into a peice of art, The Death of Modernism :D

My tap is currently dripping, is that art?

Dodgy washer more than likely, not much to buy a replacement from down the local diy stores :p lol

Or if you let this artist guy loose that leak will become a flood in no time :p

theres a difference between ART and toss
this is toss
some modern art is quite "cool" even if you wouldn't call it art (like the iron people that where on those beaches) but some stuff (like this guys water) is neither art nor cool, its just stupid

In your opinion of course :) You can't deny people their experiences and enjoyment. For the record I don't actually think it's a very good piece of art but I believe I understand why he's done it.

As is keying peoples cars, what exactly was he trying to prove?

Had he scratched in a detailed mural with varying depth etc. it may have been art. :p

Stupid way to go about it, but just keying it is so pointless.
