Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

Very bad start to the morning. Great ball to get Colly out although you get the feeling an Australian batsman would have left that on length.

Can Lee get a Hat-Trick. Nope, well too wide of off stump.

As long as the rethink doesn't end up with them going back to Jones again. Throw Davies in right away or find another stop gap until he's got some more experience is the question IMO.

all out for 291. Colly got a good one and Fred had stayed around for as long as could be expected. Pathetic from Read and Mahmaood, while Harmison stayed around a bit and Monty and Anderson did what was expected. This tail is really worrying, we effectively have four no. 11s atm, I thought Mahmood was supposed to be able to bat but haven't seen much evidence so far. Maybe we need to drop a bowler and play an extra batsman. Then we could bowl more Colly, Bell and Pietersen while having a more robust batting line-up. Certainly an idea when Vaughan comes back.

Might have to do it but it would leave us a little light in the bowling department. We need to get them 20 wickets so don't know what to do. Just need to find a seamer who can bat. Not sure who. Mahmood and Plunkett are meant to be able to be able to bat a bit but i haven't seen much from either of them. Leaves Broad and Tremlett who are next in line, Broad is ok not a clue about Tremlett.

Wouldn't be quite so bad if we got runs from the keeper.

Well they were 188/4 at close. Not bad considering our batting but we need to get them out with a lead of less than a hundred tommorrow to stand a chance of salvaging something from the game. Trouble is, it's Hussey and Symonds at the crease :(

Australia bowled out for 393. We bowled some rubbish at the tail enders. Anderson bowled some better deliveries when he pitched it up. Looks a good pitch if you can play your shots.

Warne nearly got his century, got 71 off 65 balls and was going well until he was stumped. Had a bit of luck as he shudda been out when he edged off Panesar when on about 10 or 15.

Interesting stat on Read and Jones:

Jones 53 Innings and 5 stumpings.
Read only 21 Innings and 5 stumpings.

Read doesn't fumble them.

He's by far the better wicket keeper, he's younger aswel I think. England should definately stick to him imo.

Australia 102 runs ahead after the first innings so England really can't afford to drop too many wickets today.

Eng 5/1, disasterous start.

43/1 at tea. Bell taking 12 off Warne's first over. Takes him time to get loose these days. Bells footwork against Warne has made him a lot better player of spin. Maybe someone should have told Strauss the same.

Holy freakin ****!!!!1111:eek:, just how crap are England??. After keeping the Aussies in check more or less although they let Warney get 71, which was a great knock by the 37 yr old...England only go and completely blow it yet again in the 2nd innings.

I honestly believed at one point England could win or draw this but after last nights mess in the 2nd innings...im completely gobsmacked at just how **** England really are. Will be interesting to see how Monty and KP try and save Englands blushes, more interested to see how KP does.

Didnt think a 5-0 whitewash was going to happen, i honestly thought England would have won or drawn a match by now. Wow what a record to go home with, a 5-0 ass spanking by the Aussies...:/

On another note, Branson and Beefy are saying the Ashes should stay in Australia seeing as they have rightly won it back. Which makes a lot of sense, bit silly for it to go back to England when England have lost it fair and square. Mind you those snotty barstewards at the MCC wont give into anyones plea for the urn to stay in Australia.

Yay !!!!!!!!! So my earlier post have come true ! 5-0 ! :D Take that, I do hope the English Cricket team and fans will be a little more modest, don't overestimate their own ability and practice more ! Here is one to bring them down back to earth from last year. All these people said England had a good chance, did they in hell ! :p

every morning i wake up and check the scores from the night before it is getting more and more painful.

Austrailias tail adds 171 runs. Englands adds 4 in their first innings.

I am praying for rain - and lots of it. Its our only way. Pietersen will go out firing to try and make some quick runs but our only other hope is if read and saj play a career best innings.

Can you please show us where us England fans have overestimated our own ability, we are officially rated as second in the world, so we had some expectations, but I don't know of anyone who thought we'd win.

Just interested on how you arrived at your comment and I'm glad we made some of you foreigners happy. :p

I don't have statistic as such, but general attitude and "over" optimism of England's chances. People (some friends) I've came across seems to think they had a decent chance winning the Ashes again, I just thought that was over optimistic.

My joy of England losing the ashes is not actually the losing itself, more about I don't have to listen to how England are the best at Cricket in the next 6 months like last year. I wish they had won in fact because I do support England in other Sports, if only the general public and the press don't go on about it like its the Second Coming. I mean its a Mini Tournment they do every year/2 years or so, against the same team. It's not the world cup, there are no other teams, they get a crack at it often enough hence i just don't get how it would be such milestone in winning it.

Yes its against the best if not one of the best side in the world, yes i know the history, but they've had and still will have lots of chances to win it. It's almost like in Football, I'd get bored too if England get to play in the World Cup Final against Brazil every other year. Without any other teams involved. It's simiply boring and meaningless almost.
