Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

Justin Langer has just announced he is going to retire after the final Ashes match as well.

A real gutsy, gritty and underrated player imo, lost count how many times he has been struck with a cricket ball and he was a very dependable player for the Aussies. I think he knew his was up though and Jacques was pressing hard now for his place and instead of being dropped he has taken the wise step of retiring.

I don't think he'd have been dropped just yet. He's right, his side are 4-0 up in what is easily the biggest series in cricket and its simply not going to get bigger for him.

Where do they go for a challenge from there?

Team for 5th test according to cricinfo:

Andrew Strauss
Alastair Cook
Ian Bell
Kevin Pietersen
Paul Collingwood
Andrew Flintoff (capt)
Chris Read (wk)
Sajid Mahmood
Steve Harmison
James Anderson
Monty Panesar

Anderson in for Hoggard, not watching the commentary at the moment so assume its an injury, maybe that side strain he got in the last test. Play delayed for 30 mins due to overnight rain, with more wet weather forecast.

Yeah it is a side strain. With that bowling attack I think we may need a change of rules, can we have 2 bats and Australia 1 please? :p we might have half a chance then.

lol, i think a draw is our only hope now. Pity dalrymple didnt get a chance!

Doesn't look too bad for batting now, sun out so might be a decent decision. New ball doing the usual so need to see that off and set about getting a decent target. We're being a bit more positive which is good to see, give the bowlers a little to think about rather than just wait for a wicket to fall.

32/0 at drinks.

104/2 at the moment. Reasonable position. Bell got himself in on 32 and Pietersen just getting himself in now on 18. Pietersen's doing his walking down the pitch to McGrath and Clark with good effect so far.

It's hard going at the moment, the Aussie bowlers are bowling very tight and runs are at a premium.

We need Bell and/or Pietersen to make a ton, because Collingwood comes in next, then we have an out of form Flintoff, average Read then we're into the tail early.

well pietersen played a terrible shot.got caught by hussey.. bell clean bowled by mcgrath.now for the collapse.. rained abit here today..hopefully get more tomorrow.. thank god 3 of the aussies are retiring.. only need 8 more then we may stand a chance..

Pretty good day for England really, finished on 234/4 with Colly and Fred at the crease. Shame Bell and Pietersen made good starts and then got out, annoying from KP again but at least he did it on 41 and not 1. Hopefully Fred can make a big score and we can bat till tea tommorrow.
