Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

Im watching the highlights right now, I can start to see why Duncan Fletcher played Gilo to improve our batting, our top 6 is crap let alone the tail. Strauss has been absolute rubbish for a long while now and should be dropped, hopefully that will give him a good kick up the arse and he will find some form. Im not sure why they keep saying he is unlucky either, the amount of times he plays and misses or gets dropped is unbelievable.

I dont watch many ODIs so can someone tell me why Collingwood is in the team? His batting is poor and he doesnt exactly hit them out of the ground every shot. His bowling aint up to much either, I reckon I could bowl the ball faster than he can.

Every game in this whole series, theres always only been one or two decent performances, the rest of the team just seems to collapse when they get put under the tiniest bit of pressure. In the last 18 months, you can see all of our worst performances have been with Flintoff as captain. I have no idea why he was reselected for the ashes and the ODI series, Strauss was clearly the better option and the majority of the England fans could see that, so why couldnt the selection team?

The thing with Collingwood is that he's a good stabalising influence in the middle order and when on form can play some nice shots, was a good finisher of an innings last year. Problem is that he often comes out with not much on the score board so has a different job to do which he isn't as good at. Think he should stay in the team as the problems at the moment are at the top. For the tests however I'd probably drop him in favour of Vaughan.

Just watched some of the highlights and Bell's mystified me. He has a lot of talent and always has, today he had confidence in himself and actually took on the bowlers rather than sitting there waiting for bad balls. Why he doesn't do it more often really annoyed me. Is it a confidence problem or a mind set problem? Either way the coach needs to get the best out of him. If he plays like that all the time in ODI's he'll be a good player.

Don't know what to say about Strauss any more. 1 shot square and the rest to third man. Utterly pathetic. I said him and Strauss were similar the other day in the way they would only play behind square. Today showed the Bell could do this and with class when he put his mind to it, Strauss just couldn't.

Time to forget this series and get a team to at least have a go at the world cup.

Loye
Vaughan
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff

Would be my top six at the moment unless Bell slips into his negative tenancies.

Mmm...it was a great game. Very close stuff. Oram doing some real damage with the bat. 6 sixes in his century, a great effort indeed. Aussies managed to keep their unbeaten record, but their will be a couple of raised eyebrows.

At the moment, both the Aussies and Kiwis look in fantastic form, and I don't see a win for England any time soon. With a few games left for England, this nightmare of a tour will come to a close and we won't have to endure any more humiliation.

Looks like Anderson and Lewis wont be playing the next game. If Adelaide is anything to go by then Plunkett is gonna get absolutely annihilated at the WACCA. He went for 7.8 runs an over at Adelaide. Hows he gonna do on a pitch thats giving scores of 350?

id say they will maybe go with mahmood?

Pitiful, off to a fairly decent batting start and they throw it all away, again. Bell should be shot for getting out so tamely, they were in a very good position. Fred came in and just scratched a bit. He might as well have tried to hit a few while he was there, least he would have scored more than 13. To think that the boss of the ECB has said Fletcher's job is safe! It shouldn't be after this disasterous tour. He has done a good job coaching England up till this tour but I tihnk ti should definitely be the end now.

nixon had a nice wee knock altho he was dropped twice in fairness! Joyce did well up front. One or two positives to be taken out of it i guess but Colly, freddie and strauss really need to find some form fast. At least they were able to score over 200 which seemed like a big ask considering the last few scores.

After 3 months, 5 tests, a 20-20 and 4 ODI's we might be about to beat Australia

England scored 292 with Ed Joyce scoring Englands first century in ODI's since July! Australia currently 156-5.

Yep NZ have 2 games in hand we have 1, NZ play AUS next then ENG, we need to hope NZ lose to AUS if they dont wave goodbye to the final :(

I watched the very first ball to the last and I have to say it the best all round performance by far for a very long time, I just hope this continues and just maybe we have a chance at the world cup :p

Praise the lord England have finally won a game:D:p. About bloody time too as well hehe.

Seriously though watched it last night and they did well against the Aussies, mind you tho the Aussies didnt have Ponting playing but still well done.

As for them getting to the final??, well cant see them beating NZ tbh but who knows.

Well done England for finally beating the Aussies after 10 odd games and a test series whitewash:p.
