Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

OMG!!!11111!!! England won!!!111!!!

Hehe looks like England won last night, beat the kiwi's with one ball to spare:eek:..god talk about making a meal of it. Have to admit the Kiwi's did bowl very well and if it wasnt for Flintoff...England would have again been staring down the barrel of another defeat. England were 206/7 whereas the Kiwis were 205/9.

Looks like Vaughan picked up an injury, seems to be his hamstring as he used a runner for the 17 runs he made. Losing him would be a big knock as they already have lost KP.

Good win tho for the English, hopefully this will put some morale back into the squad. I think their next game is against Aussies, who have decided to rest Ponting...so England might be in there with a chance albeit a very very slim chance;)...Gilchrist will be leading the side out.

Had to laugh at the Sky commentary. We're on track to win a game lets have an open top bus tour of Hobart LOL :p

A very sloppy win. Basically Flintoff and Anderson won it. C'mon we need more people pulling their weight than that.

What Bell did to get Joyce dismissed was terrible as well. What was he thinking!

I haven't seen any of the match, but it does look like we did make hard work of it, but a win is a win and don't forget that they are three places above us in the ODI rankings at the moment, so not a bad result at all and a long overdue boost to our confidence, until we play the Aussies again.

Better bowling performance this time around. Anderson got away with some rubbish well outside off stump but bowled a lot better. Think his bouncer needs more work though, every time he pitches it short it ends up on the boundary. Could try Plunkett or Tremlett in the next match, Lewis was very expensive compared to the rest and maybe to similar to Anderson opening the bowling, could do with some pace and less swing at the start of the innings.

Made a right meal of that run chase. Situation where you've got to make use of the power plays as the pitch gets so hard to score on when the ball gets soft. couldn't believe it when they interviewed Collingwood in the interval and Atherton think it was asked him if they were going to come out and make use of the new ball to set a platform expecting him to say yes and Colingwood replied "Absolutely not". Think thats what he said, was in a state of shock and am hoping he didn't say it.

Usual obsession of scoring through third man and fine leg continued but Freddie did the job. Great performance by him now the pressures off.

It was good to see England finally win a match. We bowled pretty well, and managed to keep their run rate down.

I was disappointed by our batting though. Again, we came out with this 'defensive' mode. We need to make use of the powerplays while the field is up.

I mean 24 runs after the first 10 overs in an ODI is pathetic. This puts more pressure on the batters to score at a faster run-rate while the field can be spread back.

Anyway, I am just glad we finally won a match. It should take a bit of pressure off the boys, but the real challenge will be when we face the Aussies.

Well Vaughans got a grade 1 tear of the hamstring, it is the lowest grade so they will see how he goes over the next couple of days rather than send him home. Mal Loye called up as cover. Flintoff back as captain.

Joyce  Collingwood  BELL ... Run out again playing the same sodding shot except this time it couldnt have been any worse.. what the hell was he doing?

just before white was out lbw.. hussy nicked one to the keeper.. anderson and nixon where right in his face.. he knew he edged it he looked down and not at them to start with.. the snick omitor showed he got an edge to.. just goes to show they have all the luck and skill.. hopefully the bubble bursts in the world cup.. i`m getting hammerd every which way here because we haven`t beaten the aussies yet.. off to adelaide tommorrow to see nz and aussies against england.. need 2 wins.. then i may be a bit happier.

Better performance today, Lewis and Anderson doing the business. Shame our batting let us down a lot.

Loye was great such a relief to see someone take the game on rather than the usual 3 runs an over in a power play. Strauss looked clueless again to me, he knew and the Aussies knew he couldn't score unless they bowled him a bad ball, same with Bell. Both not ODI players IMO.

Flintoff and Dalrymple both did decent jobs later on.

Just wish we had Trescothick.

Would love to see the following team play but the point I'm trying to make is Strauss and Bell might have to go if we're to stand a chance in the world cup.

Trescothick
Loye
Vaughan (c)
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Nixon / Read / Davies / anyone who can bat (wk)
Dalrymple
Tremlett / Broad
Panesar
Anderson

Dammit England. Another batting collapse? All out for 120 is pathetic. With no Peitersen or Vaughan, our batting just looks horrible. No one we can really trust to put up some runs on the board. Ed Joyce is looking like a positive prospect, but we are still far from a winning side.

Well I can't wait for this series to be over, and we can put this whole horrible tour/nightmare behind us. :(
