Ashes thread - England vs Australia * SPOILERS *

See Gower ask Hussein and Botham about it and Botham didn't say a word. Whats the point with an extra 15 runs per innings if you can't get close to bowling a team out.

OMG Strauss just hit a pull shot nicely along the ground

Well played compared to last time, took a lot of care with the shot.

Edit: Strauss gives his wicket away again with a poor shot straight to mid wicket which leaves us under pressure again.

Commentators going on about how much of an easy wicket this is and here we find ourselves 45-2!

This Clark lad's gonna be a good replacement for Mcgrath when he packs up....unfortunately :(

Yeah and I think we're missing a trick with Collingwood in at 4. We need some impetus to the innings and get rid of some of the pressure which Pietersen can do with out trying.

By the time Mcgrath packs up...clark will be packing up :p

only silver lining available i think

lol just looked on wiki didnt realise Stuart Clark was 31! Thought he was some new young talent the Aussies had unearthed :p

Suppose they've been playing with the same team so long that a lot of very good cricketers have missed their turn like Stuart Macgill.

144-2 at tea and both Bell (50) and Collingwood (50) are playing well, if a little slow. IMO, we should be aiming for at least 500+ runs as I don't expect our bowlers will have much luck on this wicket.

well my sister worked with stuart clark, bifg headed git so she said.. looks that type of person too.. his shirt don`t stink type of person.. anyway cooly on 98 and pietersen on 60.. he looks a bit edgey against warne though.. good to see the barmy army all on the hill. more a friendly ground unlike the gabba.. got them bananas stuck up somewhere up there.. anyway hope england can go on from here.. 500 is a must really. also looks like fletcher might be out of a job soon.. like sven.. can`t pick the right players for the right game.. monty should have played without a dought.

I managed to stay awake to just before the 3rd wicket went down. Very slow start, England improved greatly after lunch, shame I missed Pietersen's 'knock', I woke again just as it was finishing :/

Looking forward to tonight :>

Hmmm much better performance from England this time round, Warne got smacked around a bit but im sure he will get a few wickets later today. Will be interesting to see how England bowl, thats where they have their major problems i think.

But so far good performance by the English, will be interesting to see how it pans out over the next few days. Personally i think it will end up in a draw barring a miracle for England and Ponting...well i dont think he has much of a clue when captaining tbh. God knows why he didnt use Clark as he got 2 major wickets...would have thought he would have been used more but hey hes the captain so i guess he knows what hes doing etc. Im hoping that Warne produces some of his magic with the ball as hes a sight to behold when bowling...simply awesome at times. Macgrath hasnt been all that effective, guess his heel injury is still playing up..England have a tough 2nd day ahead of them and if they dont get a high/decent score then i can see the Aussies ripping them to shreds while batting.

Also ill add why isnt Monty playing again??, really England need to get him in bowling as hes very good at taking wickets. Fletcher and co really do surprise me at times...put the lad in FFS!!! and forget about Giles...he isnt that effective tbh.

KP was excellent against Warne, made him look ordinary at times

Now we have this solid base, after a steady start, hopefully KP and Colly can up the rate a bit so we post a big total and have time to bowl at the Aussies :)

Slow but solid start by England. But now, we find ourselves in a good position runswise (I'm thinking 400+ runs as a first innings score). However, the only problem is going to be getting the Australian batters out! This is exactely why Monty should be in the team. There is no point if we make 1000 runs, if we cannot get 20 wickets, we might as well hand the Australians the ashes back. It looks like a great batting pitch as well with very little to no swing for out pacemen. It is still early days, but I predict this test will end up as a draw. :(

Day 2 and Collingwood gets the 2 runs he needed for his first Ashes century in the 2nd over. Surviving the new ball well, another 5/10 overs and it'll be getting nice and worn.

Lee's annoyed which pumped up Pietersen a bit who then smacked McGrath for 12 off his first over. He's another annoyed bowler after not being given that new ball.

Nice to see Collingwood get the ton straight away. I was worried that we wouldn't start off where we finished last night but both seem to have settled pretty quickly.

I'm only listening to it on the radio tonight, damn copyright munchers took away the stream I was using, and the commentators keep going on about one of our batters being very lucky. Was someone nearly caught or bowled?

There was a very very loud appeal for Pietersen caught behind. There was a slight noise but didn't look like an edge, more likely bat hitting pad. Loads of replays and ultra slow motion didn't show an edge and according to what I reead on cricinfo the aussies commentarys hotspot technology didn't show anything either. Very good decision by Buknor. Lee started getting annoyed with Pietersen which fired him up. Unlike a year ago hes not getting carried away, is leaving or blocking the good balls.

Did demolish McGrath in that over though, should have seen McGraths face. Priceless.

Now he's made Warne start round the wicket, bowling into the rough outside leg stump.

Edit: Thats another test century for Pietersen, very well played.
