Asking someone where they are from

I'm not quite sure what your post with just quotes is for @Tony Edwards?

I was going to leave it, but I guess you don't see a difference. I've made up fictitious scenarios to show a point. You make up what other forum members are saying/meaning to try and back your point up.

**EDIT** It has been quite an interesting discussion. I hope I've learnt a little, although I still don't really understand why it's specifically racist to ask. The links given earlier mainly said it can make people feel uncomfortable (more than it was racist) which is something I will try and consider in the future. But, thinking about it, as we're moving into the point of people posting 'so you're saying XYZ' which is nothing like what you've said, it's perhaps best to just move on. Which I will now do. Thanks all.

Come on man. That isnt what is being said.

White isn't a colour, it's a shade.
Incorrect. White is defined as being a colour.

"White is the lightest colour and is achromatic. It is the colour of objects such as snow, chalk, and milk, and is the opposite of black. White objects fully reflect and scatter all the visible wavelengths of light. White on television and computer screens is created by a mixture of red, blue, and green light."
