ASROCK X570 TAICHI - THE RYZEN 3000 MOTHERBOARD GIBBO & 8 PACK RECOMMENDS

^^^^ Got the same email. Decided to cancel and instead go to build an Intel based system.
Really? I think a 3800X with a X570 Taichi is a great combo for gaming and overall use. I thought about getting a 9900K instead but I am not happy with Intel's practices lately. After all Intel's offering seems to be slightly faster on single core, but behind on multi with very mature BIOS.

Indeed, really :)

Each to their own, and as long as you are making what you believe to be an informed choice then so be it.
Overall use for me and my needs with what I can expect from the Intel 9900k it will do fine.
If I had been aware of the reviews as they stand at this moment in time prior to placing the order then I might not have bothered at all with the Asrock board. Putting aside my thoughts on the launch and stock I feel that the Intel option is right for me now.

I'm also not overly impressed with Intels practices, altho they haven't changed for as long as I remember. Then again I'm not either impressed with much of what Nvidia does and yet here I am with a 1080Ti.

Same I am not happy with Nvidia if Im honest, at least what they did with the 2000 line up. I also have a 1080ti, which I think I am going to keep for a while or at least until Nvidia jumps on 7nm, or AMD catches up to the 2080ti.

What did you mean about the Asrock board? The fan not going on idle?

It is not just about that particular board but more about the whole platform as I understand it now. Much of the board, bios and aegis etc etc issues will mature and hopefully resolve over time. At the moment there seems zero overclocking potential from these AMD chips. Remember when it was being discussed in the humongous thread in here it was hoped that 4.5ish would be reachable..? Perhaps it will one day, but early impressions are not showing that.
It put me around £240 for the mispriced board (same as what the Aorus Master Z390 has cost) and then either £330 ish for a 3700X, or £380 for the 3800X you noted or up to £480 for the 3900X. Then a bravket for the cooler I have - a Cryorig R1 Ultimate.

I could have just ditched the idea of a x570 board, as the Gen 4 PCI slot means very little to me, and go for, as an example, B450 Carbon AC for £115 and couple that with a 3700X - seems to perform in games as good as any x570 and 3900x that I have seen so far, perhaps that might change. That would have been cheaper...!

But I'm just not happy with investing money into the new AMD platform at this early stage of its development. I was more impressed with what I had understood of it prior to its launch than I am now. I didn't think that I would have still thought of the 9900k as being a viable option. I am very much used to what I have now, a 6700k that has been placed in my Asus Sabertooth Z170 and just dialled to 4.7Ghz with a 0.15v voltage offset. Memory on XMP at 3200 for 32GB and it just runs. It has ran like that from day one of the Z170 chipset board coming out and not missed a beat once. That is what I'm used to with my rig, perhaps the AMD would have offered me that...?

I can afford the cost differences, it doesn't matter too much to me in that respect, but I do want a "simplistic" and hassle free approach to enjoying my main PC. The expense of the Intel build is something tha tI forget over time, the hassle and crap of dealing with a non stable rig is something that stays with me.
Don't get me wrong there is much to not like about the intel practices etc. I didn't pre-order the Asrock because I am an Intel devotee, lol.

If all goes well with my Son's intentions he will benefit from the 6700k and Sabertooth board, if not I'll probably sell it here on the MM.

Fair enough man, I completely understand what you mean. Let me know how the 9900K plays out, since one of the things holding me back from getting one was that it runs really hot.

You seem to have already dealt with that heat once with your delidded 7700k....?

The Cryorig R1 Ultimate and the airflow that is in my Fractal Design R5 case seems fine with my 6700k at 4.7Ghz. Then again there isn't much offset voltage needed for it to run at that speed. Perhaps luck of the draw with the chip plays a factor there.

Are you looking or have ordered anything around one of these new Ryzens..?

Yes I had to delid my CPU because it was reaching 90C when OCd to 5Ghz on stock paste. The 9900K is soldered instead but I heard it still runs pretty hot which is something I was worried about (noise purposes).

I pre ordered a 3800X and the incorrectly priced X570 Taichi on Sunday, waiting for stock to arrive.

Just went on the live chat of the cheapo Taichi people. Unbelievably unhelpful, definitely trying to get me to cancel my order. Just shrugging their shoulders saying "we have no information", "would you like to cancel your order"?

Really? lol I spoke to them on Monday and they just told me that they were chasing suppliers for the stock every day.

You should be well impressed with that order..!
The 3800X seemed a bit of an oddie to me, with its TDP and positioning where it is. Not that much in the way of reviews either at the time of looking. Perhaps that has changed now.

I'm hopeful (think lazy) of just changing boards and CPU and my Windows just working. It is good to live in hope :D

I don’t think there’s decent 3800X reviews out there yet, hard to see it being worth it over the cheaper 3700X.

To be honest is the main reason I was interested on Zen 2, to just pop the CPU in and let PCO do its thing while I enjoy the improved performance. But I guess it is the price of being an early adopter :)

The main reason I went for the 3800X is because I am hoping the higher TDP means more OC potential or at least have the potential of running all cores at higher clocks on average. Sadly AMD did not ship samples to anyone so we cant really confirm if that is true. According to Der8auer it is able to, but we will once all the bugs, and problems are ironed out.

Mine will be arriving today, so don't cancel, they're probably struggling with supply to meet the demand.
