I like this quote from the Guardian site from a user called Pindi
Good quote but Equador hasn't the best record on human rights and democracy.

Although im in his corner over extradition, it has to be pointed out that people are dead as a direct result of his actions, and its pretty hard to try and say he wouldn't have known that would happen.
Why would Sweden extradite him though and not us?
How come the allegation in Sweden started at the most convenient time for the US?
The allegation did not start, it occurred ages ago, decision was made not to persue it, then a more senior investigator has reopened his case and made the decision to proceed with a european arrest warrent.
Ah right, that makes sense. And i assume the women making the original allegations are happy to keep pursing them?
Who has he killed to escape questioning by Swedish authorities? Have I missed something? Did he run across the rooftops shooting coppers as he pirouetted from building to building before bungee-jumping down clock tower into an awaiting speedboat with a scantly clad Ecuadorian secret agent inside to whisk him to safety?
That's not the way Google works... Really Castiel you can't type a simple yes or no? ...
I can't believe the pro-rape agenda of this thread.
I dont think he's bond. I think HE thinks he's bond but thats another matter.
No I was referring to the 1300 dead Kenyans he admitted in an interview were directly attributable to wikileaks, but later changed his mind about of course. I was also referring to the Taleban attacks on Afghani Elders who had co-operated with the US. The Taleban did send a nice letter thanking Assange though, so at least they were polite. What about the Iranian Majid Fashi whose execution as a spy was as a direct result of being identified in the unredacted cables?
But then again, what about the Chinese dissidents, middle eastern journalists and basically anyone who has stuck their neck out for democracy we dont know about who quietly disappear or who flee their homes?
Were they worth it so that Assange could keep his name in the papers and then screw over anyone who trusted him so he could cower in the embassy of a country whose Human Rights record something tells me he wont be challenging anytime soon. Nothing like having a conscience you can tuck away when threatened with jail to mark him out as the champion of the peoples eh?

The only reason why its likely this situation wouldnt exist with Joe Random is because Joe Random wouldn't have the option of suggesting its all a nasty conspiracy from the horrible USA and therefore a South American embassy would laugh and close the door. Therefore Joe Random wouldn't be able to attempt to escape allegations of sexual assault quite as easily..
