Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Bugs and giltches arereally starting to add up now. Yesterday I had two immortal enemies fighting me after a cut scene where I had killed them... But today might be the best. I got a contract from Reda to kill the 'Duke of Burgundy'. I Checked my map and was puzzled to find he was in my settlement. So I used the odinsight thing and was even more surprised to find it highlight one of the dummies by the assassins bureau!

Oh well I attacked it and got the reward

I am kind of starting to think the game might have been rushed out a bit. It definitely needs some polish and as someone said earlier, is overdue for a patch as well

I assume they are working on one big patch. I've been really impressed with it all so far. Its much more story driven and the side quests distract from the main story much less. Much less grindy than Odyssey.

What HDR settings is everyone using? Try as I might I just cant seem to nail the HDR on this, I get the dark right but then the light is out, I get the light right but then the dark is out, I get them both right but then the image is really grainy, been fiddling on and off as the whim takes me but always end up turning the HDR back off and sticking with it normally.

I just stick with the default, it seems pretty spot on with my TV. Considering how glorious HDR is in the day I'm always sad when it gets dark :p

It's not a longsword, but I just found out that you can get a greatsword in game, so not that much of a difference, both are two handed swords. Either buy from your local shop in town or from the contract merchant kid for opals.

Yeah, what I meant is that there are no one-handed swords in the game, AFAIK longswords were typically too heavy for one-hand use at the time so poor wording on my part. Sword/axe combo would've been cool.

Ahh gotcha. Well, the person that told me about the greatsowrds said he dual wielding them so if you want to wield a sword and axe, might be possible ? Not sure myself though since I not got to the ability to dual wield weapons yet so can't check it out.

The problem with heavy dual wielding is that it is soooo slow. Its really easy to commit to a move and miss a window to parry. I may go back to dual wielding lighter weapons.

First, understand that the game is meant to look dusky & dusty, so adjust expectations accordingly. For an LCD I suggest 4000 + 0.5. For OLED no idea.

Also just re-installed Origins and man oh man, is the improved clarity and sharpness of it a shock. I knew it was the best looking of the bunch but I kinda forgot. Also immediately noticeable is how much better the sound is in it, though their audio wasn't ideal either. Do miss the better frametimes of Valhalla though, I need a serious CPU + memory upgrade for Origins before that's decent for 60 fps.

My mini-review of it:
Having now finished Valhalla I have to say that it's definitely the weakest of the three. On a technical level it took a hit both in graphics & audio, on a writing level it devolves further into something YA, the atmosphere is top notch and that one they nailed, the butchering of historical faithfulness is now on a level more egregious than ever before, and while the stealth and combat have seen some nice improvements they also took MASSIVE downgrades but particularly the combat. Too floaty, too weightless, too limited in selection of arsenal, too constrained within certain hard limits (eg if you fight the Lynx pair you'll see the small one just be undamageable even if you back it into a corner, because you're "supposed" to only be able to hit it on dodges/certain windows). The raids are also a big disappointment as well, but even bigger are the castle assaults. It's too clearly scripted and poorly at that, such that if feels like everyone's doing pantomime around you while you go through the check-list of advancing the assault. And it all ended very confusingly & in a deflating manner, the actual structure of the ending simply doesn't tie in well together at all, and to find the last Order guy (who you know who it is from the start because these idiots didn't think to obscure the model) you then have to go hunt the remaining Zealots which means - have fun running up and down the roads until you spot them. The actual order of the ancients also seems to have been an afterthought with most of them being nothing more than filler - what's the point?! I actually really liked the system in Odyssey & thought it had potential to be even greater, but they just butchered this one as well! And honestly the settlement upgrade system felt very weak and lacklustre as well, and when I think how joyous it was to upgrade the town in KCD it's even more obvious how pathetic their effort has been in this game. Should I mention the bugs? It goes without saying.

All in all, it started off well, it had some nice high points but the more I played it the less I liked it, and that feeling only kept increasing. This is one of the games that I don't think I'll ever revisit unless they do something just mind-blowing with the DLC. I still enjoyed my time with it, but mostly because I went in with very very low expectations and they managed to surpass them at first. I think they nailed the atmosphere & that's what kept me in it, but I'm glad I only paid about 7.5€ for the experience. It's about what it's worth.

Started playing this the other day and still in Norway. Have a few questions.

Is there any Fabric in Norway to be found, or that wont be available until England ?

Carbon Ingots, have found 4 so far, are there more in Norway ? Still have plenty to explore, but wondering what to upgrade next. So far used one to upgrade the Raven Chest Armour, so with three left, can either upgrade the Bow, or use one each on the other 3 Armour pieces, but since not sure how much Carbon Ingots there is in Norway, I don't want to do one and then not find enough for the others.

And finally, all the Restricted Areas/Settlements, they are all enemies of the Raven Clan, right ? And do they respawn, like they did in Origin/Odyssey ? I hope they don't, found that a bit tedious to be honest.

Actually, one more thing. The level 240 (or so) area, did you do that area as well before leaving Norway, or did you leave that until later ?
I didn't find any fabric in Norway, can't remember how many ingots but maybe 10 (didn't spend much time on the high level area as I'm a chicken).

Anyone who doesn't say hello is a baddie as far as I'm concerned and certainly anywhere restricted. I don't kill them all though.

The high level area can be visited but I didn't do it all before leaving, you can go back and do it later.

Thank you, appreciate the reply ! :)

Thanks, I'll give those settings a try.

Interestingly, your summary there is literally the exact opposite of mine, you started out liking it but the more you played the less you liked it, whereas I am 100% the exact opposite, I started out liking it less than Origins and Odyssey but the more I played it the more I liked it and I now rank it above Origins in terms of gameplay (Origins looks better etc but I actually enjoy the gameplay in Valhalla more). I still rate it below Odyssey but thats mainly because I have a special affinity for the time period that Odyssey is set in. So my 3 go Odyssey > Valhalla > Origins.
