Assetto Corsa EVO jan 2025

I dunno, man...
Too much sounds like a Forza/GT situation for my liking.

Have to earn credits to buy the cars you actually want to drive.
Having to own the car to join races that use them.
Big focus on open world roaming and customisation.

Cool if you like that stuff and/or are more on the casual side. Not cool if you just want to get on with racing in stuff you like.
I think they looked at what's popular with the mods for the first game and went with that. It will appeal to a border audience therefore it will sell more but may put some people off.

I personally think they will make more of an all rounder game and hopefully be open for mods so people can make it more how they like it.

Yeah, roaming/cruising is popular in AC. I totally get it.
I think longer term, they're aiming for where the money is and that's the console market. This appeals to the Forza/GT crowd.

For example in the comments on that vid:

As for mods, I'm also dubious with all the talk of licensing etc.
If they provide the tools as with AC1 and haven't come up with some way of blocking non-approved content, we'll be ok. If not, RIP.

I can't imagine Kunos locking cars behind any sort of progress system like GT and Forza do, it's just not their style.

There might be some sort of career mode along those lines, but I'd still expect being able to race in single and multiplayer without any restrictions.

Watch the video from 1:06 and tell me if I'm hearing it wrong.

I'm not particularly excited about the exact area (would've preferred Shitoko-like streets and motorways), but if Evo will be mod friendly, then having the basic freeroam/traffic functionality already inbuilt is great news for future mods.

If they’ve built it to handle such a large free roam I could see it being able to handle something as big as Tokyo through mods. I think making this mod friendly will have been a high priority. If they’ve upped the physics and realism beyond ACC that will be a big win. Then I imagine an ACC Evo will come at some point to take things to a completely new level.

Are you basing this on what you hope, or what you've actually heard from them?
The early interviews spoke about supporting it in a “more creative way”. Although they highlighted there was a lot of abuse of the system in AC so will want to crack down on that such as ripping models from other games and putting them directly into AC.

Yeah, they're talking about modders working with manufacturers and licensing.
That sounds great on the surface for quality mods.

On the other hand, it sounds very limiting and potentially expensive + it means all paid mods if that's the case. Effectively approved 'independent' DLC.

Will they be able to prevent people doing their own thing? We'll see, but it'll be a good long while before the tools are released anyway.

Payments through anything other my steam account are seriously off putting. If it's endorsed 3rd party mods requiring separate online payments like what currently happens with AC, I'm just not interested. It's difficult to see them actually doing that if they intend to have evo as a rounded complete product over multiple platforms, but then Kunos for the most part failed to deliver with ACC and it's focus as a multiplayer competitive experience. If it's wasn't for the simplistic pick up and play multiplayer and LFM adding a longer term focus , ACC could have been a dead duck.

Nothing will stop me from buying in day one unless they omit VR support, but i have a lack of faith in Kunos until i see what they actually deliver this time.

In principle, limiting modders is pretty easy - e.g., DCS gives developers tools (SDK) only to groups that satisfy DCS's criteria. AC Evo could do the same with car mods. But, with track mods, Marco says that their SDK will be free for all: 1:14:18

such a while away to full launch and will no doubt slip, only being single player to start doesnt really interest me tbh, but cant wait for MP launch. and it does look great tbf

Thats for the release in January. The early access of the original assetto corsa was one lotus road car and magione...

Multiplayer comes in the following release. They are trying to go down the GT route a little in that the majority of Asetto Corsa sales ended up being people who weren't even interested in sim racing as such, more just the endless car mods etc. Im guessing this free roam and career mode is aimed more at them and car enthusiasts rather than simmers.

They have said they plan to end up having full series represented in the game, in the same way the GT world challenge is represented in ACC... so I'm not overly worried about them not representing the sim racers.
