Assetto Corsa

Project CARS vs Assetto Cora Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

Ok firstly, we racing enthusiasts should be very happy, they both look absolutely fantastic.

Comparing the two, wow there really isn't much difference, Project Cars looks more realistic to me, that's not saying AC doesn't, it just suits the eye better. Also, the thing that concerned me about PC was the fact that the circuits are not laser scanned like AC, but can you honestly tell in that video?? The track comparison side by side looks absolutely identical to the eye. And Project Cars actually seemed to drive exactly like AC in that vid.

Summing it up, wow what great competition, they both are just looking absolute nails to me.

I've not played AC in a while, mainly because I've not the space to put a full racing setup, and controller just doesnt feel right in AC to me which is obviously understandable...why anyone would want to race on AC with a controller by choice is beyond me, but if PC is more manageable on a controller, this might sway which game I actually put all my time into.

Interesting time this next month or so.

Anyone tried this with the DK2? Apparently there is support in the new patch. Having bought every game that hints at support and trying it out, flying and racing sims are where the DK2 shines.

Without seeing fps, time of day and what the graphical options were selected pcars looks so much better. Crowds and sky always looked naff to me in Assetto.

Tonyturbo whilst the tracks do look identical, things like elevation changes and bumps etc are more realistic in laser scanned tracks.

I can't max PCARS on my PC but I can max AC and as a result I think AC looks better.

Having said that pCARS hasn't released yet so there may be more optimisation to come.

yes of course mate, I know it'll feel different regards to traction when your on an AC circuit, but PC looks a lot nicer than I keep being led to believe. They are both looking so damn good, I think AC obviously more catered to the sim setup which we all know and will never debate, but if PC is a really enjoyable game with plenty of depth and handles close to AC, we might have a real contender in PC to push AC to new levels.

See the thing with AC, to me it looks quite slimline, no weather, no night racing, I expect the car list will be nowhere near as extensive as PC. I'm guessing PC will just have more things to do. I'm looking forward to both titles I'll give it that

 I thought pCars was known for being stunning, it's the way that it feels that I keep hearing conflicting thoughts on.

Back to AC, can't wait to give the 458 GT2 a run at Spa :D

The only people who think Project Cars looks stunning are people who haven't actually played it with the monitor right up close to their faces and people who love substandard track/scenery textures and jaggies galore.

It's the single most overhyped game ever in terms of graphics, they are nothing special at all, in motion its ugly... yup i said it, UGLY. It's messy, full of visual artefacts, object pop in etc.

Racing sims need to be as clean looking as possible and incredibly smooth in motion, project cars is neither of these things.

AC has similar issues with visual artefacts (flickery shadows etc) but its nowhere near as bad as pcars and it runs a lot smoother as well (whilst also having good physics, something pcars will never have)

I get the faint impression you're not a fan of pCars.

Perhaps someone with both games should comment on the comparison on their own PC. Judgement based on that video would be a mistake IMO.
Why is the AC part all pixelated and crappy looking compared to the PCars portion and what PP setting was used?

Do like the mist effect in PCars though.

You can never ever truly judge what a game looks like until you play it in person on a screen relatively close to your face. Youtube videos are deceptive and oddly enough the artefacts which appear when encoding a video clip actually help mask visual flaws in the game. It's only when you play something in person that you can see what it really looks like. This is when you can spot the poor AA, flickery shadows, low res textures, smoothness in motion etc.

Videos (even in HD) = unreliable representation

I get the faint impression you're not a fan of pCars.

I want to like it, but it's just crap in its current state. Physics are miles of AC and the Graphics are messy/unpolished and unsmooth in motion.

The only positive thing i have to say about it is that the lighting is amazing.

Before watching the video comparison, my instant impression last night (just before bed and very tired with lurgy) was that AC's version had less elevation change and less camber in the middle section of the track.

But the video comparison looks as if there is very little in it in terms of the black stuff, which is pretty impressive considering I'm not aware of pCARS' version being scanned.

The trees are different shades of green, there is the odd tree location mismatch.

Spa in pCARS is yet to get finer detail attention, plus the weather and time dynamics of pCARS bring the track to life, compared to AC.

In fairness though, I barely played with AC last night after the big update , there might be more I can do than I spotted in a dozy state. ;)

... But the golden age of sim racing is dawning on us, for sure, there will be at least four big sim titles to enjoy. :)

To be fair to pCARS (I have pCARS and AC) there's been a massive improvement in the actual visuals you see on screen while playing. Especially compared to the masses of tweaked pictures and videos.

As I said in an earlier post. I can max AC, not pCARS.

PCARS needs decent levels of AA because of the deferred lighting. With 2 GTX 970's and a triple screen set up I'm stuck at FXAA at high as the most I can apply and still maintain 60 FPS at 5760x1080.

As for physics and handing, AC feels a little better on the FFB but not much.

There certainly less grip on cold tyres in pCARS than AC.

Neither game has been officially released so there's still room to improve both.

I've got a senior tool pack in pCARS, but I still think I prefer a AC at the moment, just. Even though there's a lot less in terms of content in AC.

Agree with Jaynos. pCARS always looked a little rough to me in game, AC looks and runs smooth as silk. Performance and visuals have improved dramatically in the rc update too. I can run 24 car races with little performance drop now, well once the field has spread out a bit. Racing the 458 GT2 at Spa is sublime.

I'd say there was more object pop in with pCARS and the performance hit for having detailed grass on is ridiculous, especially when you consider that at some tracks you can see that popping in very easily.

I've said it in the pCARS thread, I think it will do better on consoles than PC, simply because there's only Forza on the Xbox One and nothing on the PS4 to compete with it.
