Assetto Corsa

The cars handling better is likely due to FFB changes and some pretty significant tire changes. Update to 64 bit isn't related to any of the on-track stuff.

I'm about to give it all a try now.

When people ask me about PCars vs AC, I say:

Project Cars is good at being a game, and not so good at being a simulator - Assetto Corsa is the opposite.

It's a pretty accurate description in my opinion. I never liked how PCars handled with a controller so I haven't played it since the first day.

Just tried the Dream Pack 2/ 1.3 update. Huge difference in physics!

Drove Lambo Countach (winged version, "green" track, vintage pirelli tires) around the Nordschliefe and the way the car slides, the way you can control the slide is just delicious, no other word for it. I was able to feel the slide from the entry into Adenauer Forest corner, switch the slide towards the exit and power out - de-li-ci-ous! :)
Never thought my G27 wheel was this capable... Great job Kunos!

PS the bad news is that freetrack headtracking does not seem to work anymore. Trackir has probably forced their hand again...

Another small update 17mb and now it has made my car look like a disco

That image reminds me of a blue version of pCARS' previous issue with DS2M anti-aliasing, which was partly solved with an AMD fix (in 15.7s?) and turning off bloom in-game.

Yeah it's bloom, exactly the same issue in Pcars. Although mine was more rainbow coloured.

OK thanks I will try it tomorrow as I got to go to work soon :(

DOwnloaded the minifix (1.3.1) and the sim is still working great, no problems with disco/blue images. So probably AMD/Nvidia thing again (my system in the sig)...

So who else is finding the gearbox protection thing a right pain in the bum at times?
It takes a bit of getting used to with certain cars, but it's a good thing. It is simulating how the car would be in real life. You need to be more patient on the downshifts, which is a skill in and of itself, knowing when to downshift. It's basically just over-rev protection, which is a good thing. Plenty of cars dont have it and you damage the engine/gearbox if you dont take care with it, which AC simulates for the other cars.

Impressive stuff, really.

Yeah, I know what it does :) It's just that we managed just fine before and it really does feel a bit nanny state.
If I'm dumb enough to break my gearbox through driving like a nob, then let me learn from my own mistakes. Besides, it's not like every car has this feature IRL and I reckon it should have been implemented the same way as factory settings were/are.

Basically, if the real car doesn't do it, then it shouldn't be forced on.

The only cars that have it are cars that actually have it in real life.

Many cars will let you over-rev and damage the gearbox in the process.

It is not a nanny state. It is a dedication to simulation.
