Assetto Corsa

Awesome !! My gaming night too!

64bit version - hope this makes better use of resources or something

Tbh I get around 60-70 on max @ 4480x1024 so not as though it runs badly anyway

Looking forward to you some lambo :)

Argh! They've bloody removed the generic tab in the setup menu...
That was incredibly useful with raising/lowering ffb strength - something I generally did with every car.

Someone tell me I've missed where they moved it to for the love of baby jesus.

EDIT: Actually, it's not the generic tab, that usually does brake balance. I forget what it's called now. The one next to setup i/o.

My Xbox controller is slightly leaning to the right now, it's fine in F1 2015/2014 and GTA, even with the deadzone turned way up it still happens.

I wonder what's causing it.

I've just fired up my Assetto Corsa for a quick game as I haven't played for a while. It carried out an update and now whilst driving in cockpit view I have some crazy type reflections appearing on the screen at times. They are very off putting. Is anyone else experiencing this? I assume it has something to do with shadows / reflections on the glass.

Patch notes:

Assetto Corsa 1.3 Changelog
- Windscreens now receive shadows

I'm not sure if it's configurable. I haven't played AC tonight.

Thanks thewanted. I'll have a play with settings to see if I can turn them off. Whilst it is probably meant to add more atmosphere to the game I'd rather not have this effect. It's as annoying as car games where they put low sun so you can't see the track in front of you. Pointless in a sim type racer in my opinion, I want to race without flickering / blinding light type distractions.

I dunno. I suspect that real life racers have to deal with it, so it's quite appropriate to have it in a sim. Annoying as it is...

For anyone wondering, you can now adjust this by using +/- on your numpad.

Doesn't make any difference that I'm aware of, Sean. Not gone too in depth with testing though.

Ones thing's for sure, the game feels different. Had to change a few things on a setup that previously worked very well.
Tyres take longer to warm up and get into the zone for one thing.

Do any of you run SweetFX or similar? If so, how taxing on your system is it?

I want to get rid of jagged edges and the inbuilt AA settings are dire.

Alright, cheers!

Never used it myself either, as I find most games look fine how they are designed to look - But AC's AA leaves much to be desired.

Well I'd like it for screenshots so DSR isn't necessarily a workaround :p
What do you mean? DSR works great for screenshotting.

Enabling SGSSAA through Nvidia Control Panel is another way to get reasonably effective anti aliasing.

But sadly, the game just has major aliasing issues that cant be gotten rid of completely that I can tell, particularly in motion. For screenshots, then maybe you'll have better luck, but you're still going to need to use some expensive techniques. FXAA/SMAA through SweetFX certainly isn't going to cut it.

I wish they'd at least bring back the 8xMSAA in-game option. It was moderately expensive, but not too bad and definitely made a difference over 4xMSAA. As far as I can tell, they only reason the got rid of it was so it would make the game seem like it ran better, especially since they added all the post-processing options around the same time. Had they not done it, some people who dont understand this stuff well would have complained that the game ran worse and Kunos were lazy or incompetent or whatever.

Anyways, looking forward to getting some time with the DLC today! At some point...

DSR seems to be the same quality AA, I guess I need to downsample the image afterwards, but it never looked right imo.

Just did a couple of runs of Lake Louise V2 (I definitely advise donating for it, you can donate what you want to get the mod) in the Audi R8 LMS, and my god it's fun. Unlike cars such as the SLS, 12C and 458, you have the confidence it will stop you so you can go a bit nuts :p

Problem is I like engine braking through the tunnels because the engine crackle sounds stunning, so I can never get a good lap time, hah.

DSR from a nice, high resolution should look much better while actually playing as it downsamples it for you. But then when you take a screenshot(like with Steam's screenshot functionality, which I always use), the image will be the full size resolution, where yes, it wont affect the AA at all.

But run your images through something like FastStone Image Viewer(free and an amazing tool) and you downsample/resize your images to your native monitor resolution and bam, it looks beautiful and just like it did while you were playing. It's a very easy program to use and you can downsample large batches of images at once. You can also convert your images to JPEG and save a ton of space(and make it easier on folks if you upload your images to a forum page) without losing any quality as they are very high quality JPEG's.

Apart from SGSSAA, there really is no better way of getting nice AA in your screenshots.

Loving the Dream Pack 2 :D haven't tried all the cars yet but it's going to be well worth the £5.59!

The SCG003C is a beast, no other way to put it. I think the best thing about it is the fact it just sticks to the track like glue and glides round corners. I hardly locked up on any corner when braking and it seems really well balanced. I was expecting it to be an out of control monster, but it really surprised me.

The Countach is quite nice to drive, again seems really composed and doesn't feel the need to get its arse out all the time, but then again I suppose because it's mid engined. Oh, and that noise

The GT40 is a bit of a handful and you need to keep on your toes when driving it, makes it all the more rewarding though. It makes a right racket but again it sounds amazing.

Catalunya is stunning to drive, no other way to put it. It's one of more revered tracks on the F1 calendar in terms of history and definitely deserves to be in the game IMO. It's decent on F1 games but this laserscanned version takes it to the next level, it flows well, it's challenging and I'm sure will lead to some great racing.

The 1.3 update seems to play a fair but better for me. It looks a little nicer, the cars themselves react with a bit more realism (probably the 64bit physics) and for at least it's more stable than ever. I used to get these 4/5 second stutters every so often online (as if my CPU was spiking or something) and ruin races. It didn't happen in the 2 odd hours I played last night so fingers crossed!
