Assetto Corsa

The only cars that have it are cars that actually have it in real life.

Many cars will let you over-rev and damage the gearbox in the process.

It is not a nanny state. It is a dedication to simulation.

Okey dokes.
Kinda figured it was blanket due to it also affecting unofficial cars too. However, it seems it just affects anything with a semi-auto/sequential trans.

Seeing as I generally only drive race cars...

Anyway, it's not the end of the world, nor does it majorly affect how I drive, though I do think it's a little OTT here and there.

So who else is finding the gearbox protection thing a right pain in the bum at times?

So is that why sometimes I fail to downshift? Makes sense.

Where's the best place to pick this up guys?

I'd just buy it from Steam. You aren't going to save much due to AC + DP1 + DP2 being £31 on Steam (-30%) - http://store.steampowered.com/sub/81220/ - AC on its own is £20 from key sites, so you're still gonna have to spend a tonne on the DLC making it not really worth it.

If you aren't interested in the DLC (which you should definitely get, if not for the Nordschliefe and Barcelona, for the McLaren P1, Lambo Huracan and SCG003), this is the best price for it: http://www.kinguin.net/category/3339/assetto-corsa-steam-gift/

Edit: Just did a couple of laps of the Nordschliefe in the SCG, that car is perfect. I think it's replaced the 599XX Evo as my favourite car on the game... It's one of the cars you instantly have confidence with, which is one reason why I don't particularly like LaFerrari or the P1, but like the Audi R8 LMS, 599XX Evo and now the SCG003.

If I get it Nordschliefe is a must, its my favourite track! Are there many cars in this game?

I hope this helps..

I have roughly 5x the tracks and 2x the cars in mods though.

Yep! Assetto Corsa was set out from the beginning to be very modder friendly.

There's plenty of track, car and graphics mods on the AC forums - http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?forums/3d-car-models.24/&prefix_id=28 - However I am not sure if you can view that because the forums used to be locked down to people who own the game.

A lot of mods are hosted here, too: http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/categories/assetto-corsa.1/

There's a couple more obscure sites that I have used in the past to obtain grand prix tracks, can't remember them off the top of my head though.

'13 is all I can see from a quick Google too.

A lot of the mods may look good but they'll have really broken physics because the person hasn't spent a lot of time on it - But you can't really expect it to be as good as the laser scanned stuff.

Yeah, while there are a good few cracking car mods, there are a lot of ropey conversions with dodgy physics.
Some damn good track conversions and a few original fantasy tracks that are great quality though.

Depends how anal you are about certain things tbh. This is the sim community after all ;)

Are you sure you installed the right Lake Louise folder?

A lot of mods come like this:

Folder: Lake Louise - Inside that, Folder: Lake Louise - Inside that, the files you need.

It's actually the folder that is underlined that you need to extract to "content/tracks", not the one in bold. It's misleading how some modders do it. If you copy the bold folder in, nothing will show in game.

You can see where I've dropped the track mod here.
I've also tried the polish tor-poznan track and it isn't showing either.

^Ok, that's odd then...

This one is literally drag and drop into the tracks folder.
I've been caught out by those folder within a folder ones before too :D
