Assetto Corsa

Seems pretty good, but hard to say as most people drive the full track layout, not the tourist one with the blocked straight.

Imho downforce takes out fun from the high-speed turns which are like 90% of the track. Nothing like back end stepping out at 120mph on the Mutkurve turn so street cars are where its at on the Nurb :p .

You really do love struggling with a car, don't you Borsch? :p

Personally, I like a car to handle nicely - not necessarily on rails.
Cars like the Yellowbird and AC Cobra for example are hateful IMO, but lots of people love them and that's what's great about this game and motoring in general. There's something for everyone :)

Saying that, those guys that love hard tyres and cold tracks and go on like it's the only way to do it... Ergh.

It all depends on your own skill level and more importantly, what gives you pleasure to drive. If the car or conditions you choose provides you with a challenge or it's fun then it doesn't matter what it is.

Personally I can't drive the Yellowbird for toffee, but I do like some of the other older cars. Anything with a manual gearbox so you have to heel/toe your way around in is where the fun is for me.

Don't enjoy the Yellowbird too much unless I'm running with a bit of stability control. The F40 is spot on in terms of the balance of enjoyment when really pushing the car though imo.

The thing is, high speed corners on tracks like the Nords or Monza 1966 or historic Spa were designed with the pre-aero race cars in mind. Stick a modern downforce monster there and the magic is gone.
I do like modern open wheelers (although I suck at setting them up), but only on modern tracks that have specifically designed slow-medium speed sections. Imho historic tracks are most fun in historic formulas with no or very little aero, or some street car :)

It doesnt have to be RUF yellow bird or Cobra either - ferr 458, Mac mp4-12c, lambos, lotus Evoras, the new R8, M3, are all awesome there. :)

I guess it depends on what you like :)
Personally, I really don't dig most of the road cars - mainly due to the generally/relatively vague braking in most cases. I'm sure I'd love them in real life though.

Each to their own :)

The Escort is awesome :) The Lotus 25 is a handful! Slides around a lot with those skinny tyres.

It's definitely time to ditch the Driving Force GT and get something better. T500 RS or G29. Heart vs Head. Meh.

G29 won't be much better tbh, apart from the pedals.
T500 if you want to spend the dough and have a much better wheel and good pedals or save a bit with the T300 and live with the pedals for a bit until you upgrade them.

I've thought about compromising and getting the T300RS, but then you're compelled to use Thrustmaster pedals only (ie. T3PA-Pro) unless you get a third party adapter.

Are the T300RS and T500RS wheels the same? I can't really find any conclusive info about their internals.

They use different motors.
T500 has more torque, but the brushless motor in the T300 is smoother and offers more detail apparently.
Some say the T300 is the better one overall, but it depends. Drifters would probably prefer the T500 for example.

On console, you'd have to use Thrustmaster pedals.
On the PC, it doesn't matter what pedals you get if they're USB. Pretty sure there are adaptors available if you wanted to use something like G27 pedals or something though.

Nice one, thanks dude :) Might just save some dosh then and get the T300RS because I'm not a drifter, and then get some better pedals in a year's time.

No pedals could be worse than the DFGT's. They're simply awful.

Heh, the DFGT was my second wheel after MS XB360 one and yeah, you're not wrong :D Good wheel, **** pedals.
My T300 pedals never even got out of their plastic, never mind the box...

Sounds like a plan :) If you didn't want to stretch to Clubsports, there's always the T3PA Pro's, which can be had for £150 when the time comes :) Or used Clubsports on the bay perhaps?
