Assetto Corsa

Are there any cars & tracks that you guys think are must haves ? I only ask as there are literally tonnes to choose from and a fair amount are out of date etc. It just save me trawling through a huge list.

Anything else i can do? Still got FPS spare, also why doesnt VSYNC work? Im quite sensitive to tearing.

I DSR it down to 1080p from 4k with max in game settings apart from shadows I think.

Looks beautiful and min 63fps in the benchmark.

Google 'assetto corsa mod manager' for a few options.

Personally, I just delete old folders before updating a mod and simply drag and drop into the relevant folders.
This isn't like modding Skyrim or anything :D

A lot of modders helpfully just arrange their folder structure to allow you to just drop the whole thing into the Assetto Corsa content folder and it all goes where it needs to.

Is it just me or does there seem to be no sense of speed in Assetto compared to Project cars, especially when playing in VR? Assetto, I can drive at 120mph and it feels more like 20mph whereas Pcars it actually feels like I am going fast - one of the few games to actually accomplish this for me

Nah, your right, no sense of speed in AC really, it is strange coming from PC to AC, but people seem to think AC sense of speed is realistic, but i disagree.

Its probably down to FOV setting, with identical FOV speed looks and feels identical in all driving games. Also wider FOV looks/seems faster, but because everything (including the road) is smaller, it is harder to drive, so many people adjust to narrow (and slow feeling) FOV in AC just to be more precise on turn ins etc as the road looks bigger.

But with similar FOVs AC/pCars and everything else should feel very similar speed wise.

matched FOV in AC and pCars:

Here is narrow FOV in VR:

I have just set cockpit FOV to 36 in Project Cars and it still seems a lot faster in game than AS - I don't think its FOV, some games just feel slow.

I dont think I have played one rally game that resembles real life driving speed. Dirt rally when you go 80mph does NOT feel like 80mph in real life. I really hope Codemasters don't bodge up the long awaited Dirt Rally VR patch so it feels slow

edit - I set 120fov in AS and it still feels a lot slower than Pcars in lowest FOV

There are many comparison view of real life vs AC...it's exactly the same almost to look at.

Project cars doesn't seem any faster to me.

And of course, with the tracks being laserscanned and dynamics of the cars realistically modelled (0-60 etc), AC can not look slower. Feel slower, due to lacking g-forces - yes, but not look slower. FOV is the only free variable here.

FOV isn't the only variable because you can change seat position (quite drastically, too) which all has an effect on perception.

Sense of speed can also be changed by subtle details like track detail, peripheral track side detail and motion blur/focus and how its applied.

Personally I dont find AC particularly slow, but neither do I find it exciting. Its frankly a tiny bit meh to me in terms of immersion. Despite the numerous things it does capture. But leaving that to one side, its the very poor single player "game" that is not engaging for me. The occasional hot lap is fine I guess.

Either way though its better than the SimBin stuff I had to put with for years, rehash after rehash....
