Assetto Corsa

Unfortunately though that doesn't justify the lacking single player element. If that is what I'm after. I'd like something a bit single player rpgish in terms of progressing etc. Guess that's why I will always really be a GT fan at heart. Regardless of its own flaws.

I just feel AC is a bit of a missed opportunity. All revved up and nowhere to go... well time for another hot lap I suppose.

I see what you're saying. I just don't think it's intended to be that kind of game.

It does have somewhere to go, and that's online. It's just not where you want to go :)

Been enjoying this a lot recently. Haven't found any people in the servers who are just there for ramming, and racing has for the most part been clean - I'm normally mid pack and not right at the front.

Really need to start doing more multiplayer in this, just every time I look the majority of the active servers seem to be GT3 cars which I find much less fun to drive :( Guess I should give it a go anyway, maybe the close racing will make up for it!

I was in the Ford Escorts last night. Quite intense at times with nice close racing and an ability to mess it up on my side with the back end.

Would someone mind verifying if this is normal behaviour in AC with the Rift CV1, or am I experiencing a CPU bottleneck?

I can run the game completely maxed out graphically on a single monitor at 1440p (4770K @ 4.4GHz + 980Ti) and maintain at least 70FPS at the start of a 20 car AI race. When using the Rift I knock the settings down (AA off, no PP effects, pixel density at 150%, world detail = high etc), and I get >45FPS at the start of the same race, with ~40% GPU usage. If I reduce the grid size down to 12, then I get 90FPS.

In the "Render Stats" widget within the game, my CPU usage hovers around 68% when the FPS tanks to 45. This thread describes the same problem, albeit without the Rift.

EDIT: Looks like I'm not the only one who suffers from this - link

Was this at around 8-9pm last night by any chance ? I raced the Escorts as well, great fun. I hope the server is running again tonight as i really enjoyed it.

I think I have managed to stop the crashing I was getting. I unparked all my CPU cores (don't ask why it made a difference ) but it has seemed to have cured the issue.

This game is a whole lot of fun once you get the settings to your liking. I have had some great races - the content in the game is very good, sadly it is a lot less then say Project Cars, but what is there is great quality.

Just glad I solved the crashing, as after reading comments on here that no one else was getting the issues, then made me think it must be with my system..

Graphically it can look stunning, but then also look fairly average in places, but the handling is very good, had some great fun in some road BMWs last night..

I hear what you're saying with the GT3's, and you are right in that the close racing definitely makes up for it if they're perhaps a little too civilised for your tastes.
Can always turn TC off/down and/or run low aero for an extra thrill.

We run a fair few GT3 series simply because they're usually popular and always have some cracking action.
Same goes for the public servers, though I got sick of seeing the endless GT3's @spa type of thing too :D

Glad you got it sorted :)
You're dead right about the visuals. It really is hit and miss.
Sometimes it looks epic, sometimes it looks like PS3 :D

Content wise, yeah, it loses to pcars out of the box, but once you start adding some decent mods and grab the DLC packs when they're cheap/fresh out...

If pcars was as easy to get the wheel dialed in and offered a similar level of feel and feedback, I'd be happily dividing my time between the two, as I love certain elements of that game. Sadly, it's not to be for me at least.

Problem with Project Cars is that whilst it looks stunning and love the dynamic night day cycles and weather etc, the cars in general are so inconsistent.

Some cars are just dreadful to drive right out the box, and no amount of dial in helps, Mclaren P1 for example in PCars is just a nightmare to control whereas in AC its a handful yes as its a powerful car, but least you can drive in a straight line with your foot down and not turn into the grass, it just snakes like a real car with too much power laid down.

For me, going to have to concede, much as I love the content in project cars and the graphics and day night cycles, its just no fun if you can't handle the cars or have to stick to a few cars that handle ok, whereas with AC at least all the content is usable..

Yeah, I should've mentioned the physics along the feel/feedback :)
The last thing I did before uninstalling was to do a direct comparison with a Z4 GT3, as I'd just finished an AC series in that car.
It was bad. Real bad in comparison.

In AC, the car has 12 steps of TC control. In pcars, it was something like on or off.
Whether it was on or off, there was just so little feel for what was going on that it just sucked any driving pleasure out of it.
Some cars were ok though. Like you say, it's hit and miss.

As for the P1, I was on a public Nords tourist server that had TC disabled the other day and taking turns with the P1/LaF. Now that was fun :D

how have you guys set up your xbone controllers? i no longer have my T500RS so playing with the controller, but im not having much luck, just dont feel like i have best control of the car

i also play with an xbox controller so would like some hints on setup.

i will try some things out myself and update here with any improvements.

i did try adding a small amount of deadzone, i think it defaulted to 0, which seemed to help a little.

would love to play this with a proper wheel setup but not sure i can justify the cost, unless someone can suggest a setup thatll cost less than £50 :)

You guys might be better off googling 'assetto corsa xbox controller settings' :)
There won't be one golden setting for all cars though, as you'll have to tweak certain things to suit say, a formula car vs a Fiat Abarth for example.

Anyone using a G920 with this? If so, how do you find it? I read there were driver issues to contend with a while ago but not sure if they've been resolved.
Seen one for a good price so am looking to pick one up to replace my trusty old momo red.
