Assetto Corsa

I've got no issue with people drifting online on a trackday style server on a track the size of Nords. With a few people doing it today it's great fun, was grinning ear to ear whilst sliding around a few corners with the other guy doing the same thing behind me.
Turning up and drifting near people who are obviously hot lapping is pretty lame though, likewise on a smaller track where you are much more regularly going to come across other cars!

One thing I've found odd on the trackday style servers, the car selections are often really odd. Why limit it to one of each car for example, just let people use what they want ffs! :) If you end up with 20 identical cars so be it.

Yeah, all they have to do is pick the right place when there are no cars approaching. Like you say, the track's certainly big enough.

And yes, I find some of the car selection and numbers of each pretty weird too sometimes.
They'll often have a load of the cars nobody really wants, but then they have only one or two of the very popular ones.

Re: the car selection. Was on another server where they had the Zonda race car available. Few laps of Nords and I was exhausted. Forgot how epic that car is, starting to come back around to having a Downforce, ABS and a bit of traction control so you can really attack a circuit rather than tip toeing around!

You haven't setup a server I take? When you do at the point of setting it you have to choose what cars are available to those who wish to join. So you could well set it to 20 off the same car but that would be the only option available then. The system isn't flexible enough to simply say allow 20 cars of any type and the choice is the person that is joining.

Yeah, you're basically limited by the amount of pitboxes, and the server admin has to allocate/spread out the car choices to fill them.
Still, there are often some odd allocations.

Yes, it's very good.

And please dont pirate software. Especially not from smaller, independent game studios.

Lol don't make it sound like I do this often as I don't, someone pointed me to a site, so I tried it as I wanted to check this game and PJCars, but wasn't great in the end, so no point. ;)

As racing goes and how the game handles, it's amazing. But the game is a bit lacking, if you want a great single player career type experience then look elsewhere. But if you want amazing handling, physics, hundreds of mods, then this is your game, it's amazing at that.

Thanks for reply.

Well I'm a big fan of forza and gran turismo and GT5 & 6 being the only ones I own now for a PC variant I would want something to satisfy me in the same way to justify whatever the games cost.

I will buy project cars when I find a good priced one, but the corsa sounds like it could be better, but gambles.

You may be better off with pcars, unless you prefer online to singleplayer.

As said, Assetto is limited in terms of singleplayer, whereas pcars has some great options there.
As also said, Assetto offers a far better driving experience. Best suited to a wheel though.

just set a new PB with the Ferrari SF15-T on Red Bull Ring National on Med slicks 41.334. getting there :D

Hi all. Been playing AC for a while (steam says 422 hours:eek: ) and have just treated myself to new gfx card as the HD6900 was getting mighty old.
I bought the Saphire RX 480+ OC 8GB and AC is crashing out after few minutes of use grrrrr
Black screen, whilst sound continues as usual for a moment - then getting an AMD pop up saying it had encountered and error and started again - then have to use task manager to quit AC. Doom is playing very nicely (my only other game) so it' just AC playing up.
Wondered if anyone had similar issues with RX 480 or had any tips/pointers.
MY AC crash logs folder is empty so think its the GFX card rather than AC.
Cheers!

I made sure I removed old driver before installing new card. Have now removed that and installed the minimal driver but still the same. I've now been playing ok without any post effects applied in AC so will try eliminating individual settings to try to narrow it down - having said that it looks ok without post processing effects so might just stick with that if i can't sort it out.
Just thought someone here might have encountered the same with a 480 card.
Cheers.

Put your new GPU back in clear the cmos[see manual] load default settings and see what happens.

Aha, hadn't occurred to me it was locked down for that reason. That's fair enough! Hopefully they'll open things up longer term to allow the server admin to set max players and list available cars and keep it open ended!

it depends what single player has to offer, i do get bored of just game modes after awhile, same for any other type of game, but i do like playing online.

trouble is with forza and gran turismo there are too many idiots online and would like to hope pc gamers are abit more adult like in racing.

the thing is if you play stuff like forza gta its hard to see if you would make the leap over to a more sim like game and enjoy it.

forza to me is way too easy. i cant play it.its about as arcade as it gets.so coming to games from that to assetto/iracing/dirtrally its a different game altogether.

as long as you expect a learning path and put in the effort i think you will find the rewards.

this is a great game.the tarmac racing is amazing and great fun.

Yeah, that's the reason I got into organised Forza leagues many years back, followed by Assetto.

I don't know what pcars lobbies are generally like, but AC is generally OK. Unfortunately, whatever you go with, you can never truly escape the idiocy of humans. All you can do minimise it slightly, and Assetto is better than most in my experience.

The best out there for idiot avoidance is iracing, but that's to be expected with a subscription based service etc.

@Dg
Forza isn't 'as arcade as it gets'. No, it isn't/wasn't exactly a hardcore sim, but...
I'm talking FM3/4 anyway.
