Does anyone know if they are going to improve the sound in this game at all? The physics are pretty superb but the cars sound almost gran tourisimo bad... Specifically the gear changes!

This shouldn't be a thing. Silverstone GP track is built for F1 cars, but that mainly just means it's a long track with some longer straights for F1 cars to stretch their legs. Silverstone is used for lots of other series and has smaller variants for 'road car' races and trackdays and whatnot, too.I'm fairly new to the game but I think the surface on silverstone is optimised for the F1 type cars - completely different handling with road cars compared to the road tracks I was playing before.

In terms of track surface and grip levels, it's reasonably smooth, but this isn't gonna completely change the characteristics of how a car handles. Grip level is also fine.
Anyways, I just gave the GTR a go on Silverstone with my X360 pad and I found it playable. It uses 900 degree steering range, so it's going to be a bit sensitive, but if you're careful with the initial steering inputs away from center and are careful with the throttle, it's entirely do-able. Definitely make sure a little steering deadzone is added in, though.
It might just be you droolinggimp, I hate to say. This isn't a more forgiving sim like GT or Forza and requires a lot more care into your inputs. You saying it's fine in GTA seems to suggest it's not a fault controller, either.

just bought this and loving it so far, also bought a secondhand budget wheel for itI'm still getting used to racing with a wheel though so not very good at moment lol
Getting the wheel setup right makes a massive difference - mine on default settings from the profile for the wheel was incredibly twitchy.
Yeah there is an advanced settings tab on the right hand side of the wheel options screen.
I have an older version of that wheel so the settings that work for me are probably similar - gamma 1.82 if you want it stable of 2.0 so you can throw it into the corners more, filter to 1.0 (I called it damping above accidentally) and speed sensitivity to 0.02.
