Assetto Corsa

Does anyone know if they are going to improve the sound in this game at all? The physics are pretty superb but the cars sound almost gran tourisimo bad... Specifically the gear changes!

Try contacting AC and tell them this and see what they say they might do a patch for some of the sounds gear changes for one.

Can't do no harm.

I'm fairly new to the game but I think the surface on silverstone is optimised for the F1 type cars - completely different handling with road cars compared to the road tracks I was playing before.
This shouldn't be a thing. Silverstone GP track is built for F1 cars, but that mainly just means it's a long track with some longer straights for F1 cars to stretch their legs. Silverstone is used for lots of other series and has smaller variants for 'road car' races and trackdays and whatnot, too.

In terms of track surface and grip levels, it's reasonably smooth, but this isn't gonna completely change the characteristics of how a car handles. Grip level is also fine.

Anyways, I just gave the GTR a go on Silverstone with my X360 pad and I found it playable. It uses 900 degree steering range, so it's going to be a bit sensitive, but if you're careful with the initial steering inputs away from center and are careful with the throttle, it's entirely do-able. Definitely make sure a little steering deadzone is added in, though.

It might just be you droolinggimp, I hate to say. This isn't a more forgiving sim like GT or Forza and requires a lot more care into your inputs. You saying it's fine in GTA seems to suggest it's not a fault controller, either.

Grab Fonseckers' sound pack from Race Department :

Doesn't improve the sound for all cars though, just the ones listed on the pages.

Just remember that if AC is patched then you'll need to reinstall the packs or the cars will have no sounds.

Yeah seems to be some slight surface modelling but not to the degree I first thought - mostly came down to using cars I hadn't used before that were a bit more prone to quirky steering.

The handling certainly isn't the most forgiving - I've not played around with the gamer profile but certainly wouldn't want to try it with a pad with the assists dialled down its challenging enough with a wheel.

thats fine saying it could be me and I am the first to admit that if it were the case but I honestly can say it must be my controller, like I said I did get it second hand just for playing on the PC and having played a bit more AC today and pretty much used every concievable setting for the pad it is deffo not me. :p Thank god.

Anyway to add to my misfortune I did the calibration thing on windows and the LTS is ****ed. When you see the crosshair when you have to move it to all four corners it is not centering and the slightest and I mean SLIGHTEST touch sends it left or right and not centering itsself again. So for some reason it is or has lost its tension of sorts. Once I get hold of anothe rpad I will test this out but I think I will have to persude the wife to get me a wheel on ebay or here if there are any going for sale.

I know this is very short notice, but if anyone fancies a blast in the easy access Praga tonight...

Getting the wheel setup right makes a massive difference - mine on default settings from the profile for the wheel was incredibly twitchy.

Seems to be fairly good videos on youtube for most wheels.

Largely seems to come down to sticking the damping to 1.0, keeping the speed factor low to like 0.02 and gamma somewhere between 1.4 (slow) and 2.0 (twitchier) with 1.82 being popular though I've bumped mine to 2.0 now. (Going through the wizard first also helps).

EDIT: Looks like some wheels are the complete opposite with gamma to 1.0 and the other settings to 0 also don't forget to invert both throttle and brake if necessary though I assume you've got that far already.

I have the thrustmaster 458 italia wheel,i bought it secondhand and didn't receive any software for it,are these settings in the game? as seen gamma but cant remember seeing other 2 options you mention,i will have a look now

Yeah there is an advanced settings tab on the right hand side of the wheel options screen.

I have an older version of that wheel so the settings that work for me are probably similar - gamma 1.82 if you want it stable of 2.0 so you can throw it into the corners more, filter to 1.0 (I called it damping above accidentally) and speed sensitivity to 0.02.

thanks a lot, will try it out now :)

just tried those settings and its MUCH MUCH better, can actually stick somewhat to the racing line now, thanks a lot,im loving this game :)

one more quick question,i see theres graphic mods for this,is it worth modding? and can you still play online if you mod it?

thanks again

Dunno on the modding side myself - only picked it up recently to see how tragic my driving skills with anything actually fast were on the Nordschleife tourist.

You can't disable the proximity arrows unless you install content manager and do it through there.
Not sure if you need to upgrade to the licensed version to access the option, but it's worth donating a quid or so to get all the features anyway.

If you're going to remove them, I'd advise installing helicorsa.

As for mods and online, it depends on the mod.
Weather mods only work offline, unless the server is specifically set up to use a specific type - which is very rare outside of the standard Kunos list.

Other stuff like PP filters/sweetFX work on or offline.

ED: If you install the content manager, I'd highly advise grabbing these weather presets. You then have the option to run offline races and hotlaps with settings that approximate the real life time, temps and weather at any given circuit - including mod tracks.
I'd also grab this because Evening Storm Brewing looks epic with his and certain other PP filters. *Hint* Increase time acceleration to see those clouds properly rolling for extra drama.
