Assetto Corsa

Thanks just picked it up! How does it compare to Assetto? Still consider purchasing this as I have a G29 coming in a few days.

I actually prefer Project Cars over Assetto. Yes Assetto is without any doubt the better sim, it's incredible and mods for it are amazing. But for me, I just have more fun on PC as it's more of a game, loads more meat to it. And handling is now half decent to in PC.

Nothing has changed with the handling in Project Cars since release.

Disagree with that, I played it from early builds, handling has changed a lot. It was horrendous, new tire physics and models where introduced which made it feel worse at times. It felt like driving on ice back then. Now it's a very enjoyable experience, it's nowhere near AC or iRacing buts it's more than acceptable if you know how to tune, warm your tires up look at conditions and track temps etc.

We're having another couple of open events this weekend, as it's a break between series.
You don't have to sign up or anything for these.

On Saturday, we have Mazda MX-5 Cup cars running at Laguna Seca, since there's a real life event there with the same cars this weekend :)

  • This will be a 2x18 lap sprint race format, with a reverse grid in race 2.
  • Official practice: 8pm BST
  • Qualifying: 8:20pm
  • Race: 8:35pm
  • TeamSpeak Server: 151.80.230.238:10080
  • Search 'SDG' to find the practice/race server, which is up now

It's a shame more of you didn't come along for the oval racing in the formula lights last time, as it was a hell of a lot of fun. Ask RevBillyG or Oldphart :D

You have a second chance this weekend, as we're probably going to do it again. This time, it may not be quite as stressful with the twitchy cars, as we're going to use the Dallara Corvette Daytona Prototype instead. Still fast, but not as mental :D
We'll likely have a blast in them after the MX-5 event and you can download the track HERE.
The Helicorsa app is pretty much essential, so grab that too.

Here's a bit of action from the last outing in the formula lights + me testing the Dallara vs 32 AI (they're a little slow even at 100%):

This is guaranteed good time action and as you can see, it would be epic with a decent size crowd on there ;) There are 40 slots on that track, so come along and help fill them up!

Last call for those that like to drive with other humans :D :)

Is anyone on here running this on what they consider to be quite an old CPU?

I'd be interested to hear how it performs I'm trying to build a super cheap PC to soley run Assetto Corsa, I've tried an old athlon 5000+ but I think it just doesn't have the power.

I have one of those cpu's that you have andythelandy I n my spare pc, OC it to 4.0 and it runs AC no problem

Not tried it on an older CPU but it runs ridiculously fast (~150fps) on my i7 4820K/GTX1070 with settings turned up so I'd imagine it would run ok.

4ghz?! I find it hard to believe it will overclock that far it's 2.8ghz stock. Besides it's a dell motherboard so the bios is locked.

Out of interest how much ram does yours have with the 5000+?

Picked this up a couple of days ago - my attempt at driving the Nordschleife would be a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of getting in a car with me :S

EDIT: See for yourself heh:

7:48 - mostly pro settings but traction/stability on racer, 16C, slow surface, automatic gears - track knowledge is largely watching the 2016 video guide a couple of times.

Ditching auto not really an option - I'd only be able to do manual driving like that with a proper shifter - using a rubbish old wheel without proper gears atm.

Not really using a profile as such just copied the settings off pro then stuck traction and stability to factory.

your sig indicates you have a 955 which is 3.2ghz stock.1st gen used to oc to 3.6-3.8 pretty easy some to 3.9-4.0 with insane volts.for daily use.

next revision many did 4.0ghz.

so if you do have a 955 and its a c3 it will probably do 4ghz.c2 is 3.6-3.8.

if its on a 5000 just no.they like £5-10 cpu.

Oh, so no paddles then?

TC/ABS/STM to factory settings and then adjusting to suit on track is the way to go :) Assuming you have a button or two to spare or don't mind using keyboard shortcuts.
