Assetto Corsa

What?

No pedals?

I really want to know how good a wheel it is. It's next on my big purchase list, along with the CSP V2 and maybe the shifter.

What wheel do you have at the moment?

No pedals yet but have also pre-ordered a shifter from them also as mine has been playing up. I have a G25 at the moment.

They are offering the CSW with both rims and service for 150 euros off - not sure whether that is a standard deal / discount but that was part of the decision to buy.

I'll be purchasing the CSP V2s fairly soon. I need to build a new rig as well.

I'll post some thoughts once it's running and I've used it for a while.

It does. Not sure if everything will connect up successfully though as without a Fanatec adapter for the G25 I'm going to have 2 wheels connected to make the pedals visible - I don't believe you can connect only the G25 pedals directly to the PC unless you have something like a Leo Bodnar adapter.

I'll give it a go but if it's unsuccessful, I'll wait to fit it to my new rig as I will have the CSPs by then.

I'll give that a go, but honestly haven't noticed anything that I would put down to input lag...

Its the same setting as the "Maximum prerendered frames" in NVidia control panel, by default it prerenders 3 frames, setting to 1 makes apparent difference, the on screen wheel reacts quicker. Iracing has a setting for this in game menus, but other sims do not for some reason, but it helps in all sims- AC, rFactor2 etc, particularly with catching slides.

What wheel are you coming from barmyllama? I made the jump from the G25 but not all at once. My shifter was knackered so that got replaced first with a TH8 RS.

Then I got the CSP v1 as I was told that they would bring down lap times. And to be fair, they do. Once you get the load cell and the resistance on the pedals how you like them you are so much more consistent (on iracing anyway). I held on to my wheel for a long time before changing it for the CSW (maybe 3 months after they released it). The trouble this that the G25 is very good. I gave mine to a friend so I still get to use it now and again and it is easy to see why they hold their value. The FFB 'feel' is really not that different. Of course, the strength of the FFB is 10x stronger if you wish to have it high (hit a landmine and it will do damage!).

The base and the rims are a lot of money but you are getting a quality product. Using the the CSW is all around nicer to use and I don't regret purchasing it at all. I really hope I don't dishearten you from getting it as I love mine. IMO if you love your Sim racing and it is your hobby, go for it! If its just another game/genre you play, don't.

IMO

G25 vs CSP = there is a night and day difference
G25 shifter vs TH8 RS = TH8RS is 10x better
TH8RS vs fanatec shifter SQ = SQ is 5x better
G25 wheel vs CSW = CSW 5x better

The TH8RS to SQ was the same jump as the G25 to CSW. The was nothing wrong with my TH8RS but I wanted the features the SQ had to offer (hot swap from seq to H box). Then when I get it in my hands every shift is very satisfying, it make you feel so much more connected to your virtual car and you start to shift more efficiently because you enjoy each gear change and you take your time. The downside is I paid 200 Euro for it.

Same thing for the wheel, extra buttons, everything is driven by belts instead of gears, feels nicer and it looks the ****. But you pay 700-800 euro for it.

Hope this post has helped in some way :D but I'd defo get the pedals first as they are worth the money and be sure to get the tuning kit!

Welcome to the club :D Get them pedals, they are the best upgrade of the bunch!

Informative feedback Marshstyles, thanks for writing that. It's got me champing at the bit now :) Tracking says the wheel will arrive on Thursday. Can't wait.

Pedals will follow in about 4-6 weeks I reckon.

If you have all of your kit mounted in a rig, I'd love to see any pictures you may have.

Guys whats the laptime app you guys speak of ? How do I get it ? Where do I get it from ? how do I install it...

It's the RSR Live Timing App. You can download it here:

http://www.radiators-champ.com/RSRLiveTiming/index.php

You will need to unzip into your main AC folder.

It's getting updated periodically so you may need to re-download / apply if it says 'Please Update App' or similar.

It comes with an on-line leader board as well so you can check the rest of the leaderboard as well.

It can be activated in-game by moving your mouse pointer over to the right to pop-out the apps. It's one with a gold cup iirc and will likely be towards the bottom of the list of apps.

Sadly I have not got space for a racing rig but I'll be getting one as soon as I get a bigger space to work with :)

Just been called out to work.

I'll upload a photo of my setup and my Dads set up when I get back.

The directory to get to the dx11.ini is /steamapps/common/assettocorsa/system/cfg/dx11.ini

Change MAXIMUM_FRAME_LATENCY=1. In game, attempt to play with VSync off. If you play on your TV, check the manual and see if you can enable a "game mode" that reduces post processing and reduces visual delay.

The game feels so much more responsive and better because of this. You can see straight away as the ingame steering wheel reacts with perceptibly less delay to your physical wheel.

Just tried changing the config setting and I concur. Thanks very much for the tip.

I've got a Thrustmaster T500 RS with both the GT5 and Ferrari F1 rims plus the TH8 shifter.

I came to it via a Logitech MOMO, G25 and G27.

I will probably get the CSP V2 pedal set first and then the CSW and both rims.

I think the BMW GT rim sells it to me and the build quality of Fanatec's top of the line gear. As good as the T500 is, I do feel it's all a bit too plastic and have already had to repair my GT5 rim. The desk clamp for the T500 is awful and probably won't last as long as the rest of the wheel will.

When I get around to buying the CSW then it will be going into an rSEAT Evo sim rig, which I also hope to be getting sometime in the future. Along with a 3 screen set up.

I can't see it happening until late 2014 or early 2015 as of yet.

This game is amazing! I have been looking for something 'FORZA like' on PC for a while but this has come along and blown everything else out of the water. I played FORZA 2 Mugello demo to death but this is so much better. Everything just feels 'spot on', I dont play with a single driving aid but every time I spin out its because I have made a mistake (and I know it!).. the handling just feels so fair for the various cars! Also this game has the best use of force-feedback I have ever experienced!

I know it is early days but I am sure I will get my moneys worth purely from the alpha game as it is now. The developers have created a wonderful driving experience. Even if they fail at delivering some of the other features I wont feel let down.

Tempted to buy this now, missed racing games since I stopped playing iRacing because I'm too lazy to set up my wheel and put in the time to be good/get moneys worth.

So is this pretty good to play with 360 pad? Also where is the time trial thread?! :p

Might have to pick it up then. I know it was like £5 cheaper on steam a few days ago? Don't really mind paying an extra £5 though for this.

Pics as promised
Here's my make do setup taken earlier this evening. Suits me at the moment as I don't have to assemble anything, everything lives in that position.

Edit: Damn I've got to deal with that spider web tomorrow :D

This is an older photo my with the BMW rim and old TH8RS. This is about the hight of my head, I can see see the motec display between the rim.

These are old pics of my Dads DIY rig. He has incorporated his shifter and Flight stuff in as well now but I don't have photos. 3x 27" screens

Feel like I've hijacked the thread a little. I will hopefully install the game by the weekend and post my feedback :)

This game is amazing, way better than what I expected. We really need to get a time trial thread going.

Edit: Just tried the Richard Burns Rally track someone ported into it, ended up on my roof after a few corners :p
