Assetto Corsa

Gents,

Buying the game today, trust me to miss out on it at £19.

I'm not reading back all 47 pages so if anyone would be so kind as to give me a small list of "must have things" for the game? Or links to good websites etc that you be very welcome.

I don't have a wheel yet so will be using my 360 pad, going to look at some G27's next couple of weeks as they seem to be a good wheel for the price.

I had a go first the first time in a little while last night....VERY impressed with how much better general performance is in the game. FPS is way up on my system which is rather nice.

seems that my 360 pad profile is shot to pieces again though so need to have a play about with that :(, Managed to get it a bit less twitchy and have some fun drifting the M3 about though :D

I have to say I literally use my pad at the moment, but a lot of the guys on this thread are seeing a real benefit from using a wheel.

Must have things wise thats pretty much all you need and some patience to get used to the handling model :D

edit - There are some good community add-ons over on the AC forums including skins, sound and car mod packs that are worth looking at too

this a skin I put together using a car shell template and photoshop -

Ok cheers Phatboy going to check out the AC Forums and see what I can pick up.

Are the 360 profiles easy to set up? Can you get multiple profiles, say one for drifting and one for racing?

Yep, it will allow you to create multiple profiles on the game, there is a save button at the bottom of the screen. I think you literally just create a new profile at the top right of the screen where the "G27, Xbox pad" etc are

The delicate settings are in the advanced tab on the controls tab in option menu :)

I will screen grab my current settings for you as a starting point if you like, they were what someone on the forums suggested pre last patch where a few physics bits have been updated / modified so will need some fiddling with

you have to be gentle with cornering and learn the turn amounts / degrees on the 360s analog stick but you do get the hang of it. The Exige Scuda on imola is a good learner track / car i found :)

With your hardware, make sure you run 8x (or 4x) SparseGridSuperSampling in nvidia inspector, it makes the game look really good. Also do not use fast AA form ingame options as it blurs up the picture. Also set reflection cube maps resolution to low and Faces to 6.

Then the game should look like this:

Use PageUp/PageDown to control brightness in game.

These threads have a few small tips:

Last but not least, enjoy it with a pad, but start saving up for a decent wheel as it truly takes AC to another level :)

Just had a few laps, wow big learning curve ahead. Not really played a racing game before let alone a racing sim. The cornering takes some work, think I need to turn my sensitivity down a notch. Need to play around with the settings for the graphics a bit but all in all happy with my purchase.

Thanks Borsh some good tips there!

That does look nice Borsch
Just a heads up for amd users,I know I'm not alone in not having been able to set a profile using ssaa via acs.exe, but following Matson mentioning he had it working I realised if you just set aa to super sampling in ccc,it does then indeed work in the game and does get rid of jaggies I had on barriers etc, just not when trying via acs.exe in ccc.
Also have a 780 so knew how much better game looked using sparse grid aa via nvidia inspector, now happy to report it looks as good using catalyst control with amd:)
Oh and I've started running without HDR with nvidia or amd cards, for me I hated overblown shine on track surfaces in conjunction with ssaa.

Yep, its a pretty good looking game although it succeeds an many more levels, most importantly physics and even AI is completely different level to GT or Forza (+ AI drive with the same physics as the player which is good for replays and for actual competition against them).

Excessive shine is easy to turn down/up using the PageDown/PageUp keys when in game. HDR enabled looks much better overall imho once you do that.

one quick and maybe daft question, how are you getting the AC labelled photos, is there a take photo button now? (this is where i find out there always has been lol)

Thinking of buying it, just not sure how long it will last before boredom.

Is there a MP aspect?

I have an un-used PC 360 controller and a GTX 690 so it might work well for me!?

Click on the mouse wheel) It certainly works in photomode app, not tried it in other parts of the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foCuVjnR1wQ

Only one way to find out;) It depends how much you're into cars, racing etc. Even if you merely like them, then imo this is not to be missed- physics, graphics, AI package is really pretty great. Multiplayer will be released in about a month, although if you play with a pad you need to be "the its the taking part, not the winning, that counts" sort ;) (this applies to 90% wheel owhners too of course). I'm a noob myself only played racing sims casually and rather rarely (apart from putting solid hours into Gran Turismo, but then I discovered the proper physics of sims like LFS and rFactor2 and GT became ruined forever), but really enjoy this - game of the year by far for me :) I play with a good wheel though (g27), so not sure how much of the amazing driving feel caries over to the pad world.

Will have to play around with the graphics settings. Mine looks decent, but by no means that good. I'm using the inspector thing but it doesn't seem to work properly, so will re-read the guide on setting it up and give it a bash later.
