ASUS 42" ROG Swift PG42UQ

HDMI allows me to alt-tab from fullscreen games seamlessly as if they are in window-borderless mode. Whereas DP causes a second or two delay like its shifting refresh rates (although its not). Just my 2 cents. Also don’t know why that would be the case.

Wow what a difference!

Just updated to V032 and switched to the HDMI 2.1 cable on an RTX 4090 FE and alt tab in fullscreen mode is instant. Was always a few second delay like you said with DP.

Thanks for the tip :)

Ive just upgraded to the V32 firmware and the monitor doesn't seem as bright as before... even when showing HDR content. Anyone else seeing the same? And actually if I turn off variable refresh on the computer (Mac) it's back to full brightness... how odd.

Is anyone using the PIP/PBP functionality with this monitor? Not finding much information about it and the manual is lacking.

Wondering if it is a viable option to replace a AW3821DW and separate 27" 4K screen mounted above where sometimes I want to have two PCs/inputs at once.

I used it for a few hours just to see what it was like. Desktop on HDMI and laptop on DisplayPort.

PIP: Can change the scaling between a few different sizes. Text is unreadable when its small unless the resolution is also small, not a fault of the monitor of course, but the scaling seems to be nearest-pixel rather than something nice, which doesn't help.

PBP:
* You can change which input goes on which side.
* Wastes quite a lot of space unless you change the resolution of each machine to 1920x2160 (portrait).

It works, what else do you need to know?

Was looking to get a deal on a PG42UQ (and nearly went for the LG) but just couldn't see anything about really but came across a deal at a new sealed PG48UQ at £1k and took it! Stunning monitor it really is, just gonna have to wallmount it or something now as it's a bit big! Chuffed though, nothing comes close to this for big screen gaming/media :D :)

What do you mean couldn't see anything about it? It was reviewed by TFTCentral & Guru3D. Good deal on the other though, is it to replace the G32 you just got?

Brilliant, thanks for checking it out. So it is just side by side rather than top/bottom as well?

I meant a deal on a PG42UQ :)

And yes the Dell gave me a thirst for 4k it seems lol

Oh got you lol. Yeah I think it's been set in price since launch. I guess as it's niche and probs not many made they just keep it as it is. Value getting much worse now the C2 is hitting £800, I mean £600 difference is massive for questionable improvements.

Has anyone figured out how to access the service menu ? i had a service remote control when i had lg to disable ABL, is there a way to do this with PG42uq, Uniform Brightness still feels not as bright as when i disabled ABL on my LG even with the latest firmware.

I thought this option was built into the OSD? One of the advantages over the C2 that you didn't have to void warranty to access it.

these been available for just over a month how is everyone’s holding up

i got my first one the moment it was available and after 7 days it developed a fault with a line going across the screen like in the pic

hQLKaYq.jpg

my 2nd unit had a failed usb hub after 5 days so no firmware updates

and now this morning my 3rd unit had a line going across it like my first unit but after pulling the power plug the line disappeared but for me that’s not a good sign and think it’s only a matter of time before this one is knackered too

has anyone else had any issues with theirs?

3 faulty units in less than a month

OSD has an option , but it reduces the brightness overall which is toggling "uniform brightness" on. on LG even though you void the warranty , you still get higher brightness when disable gsr and abl.

you're getting two different terms mixed up here, not helped by all the different names each manufacturer likes to give each one!

The setting you're talking about from the LG C2 service menu that you can disable is ASBL (Auto Static Brightness Limiter) which LG call "TPC" in the menu. that detects static or unchanging content and will auto dim the screen when it detects it. it's annoying for PC and desktop use which is why many people disable it using the service remote. On the PG42UQ Asus give you direct control for that setting in the main OSD - it's called "screen saver" on their screen. this is only detecting what the screen thinks is static content though, it won't have any other impact to brightness on either the LG or Asus.

ABL (Auto Brightness Limiter) cannot be disabled on either screen, it's an inherent technical limitation/capability of OLED panels. You can "avoid" it being needed if you work within certain brightness levels for SDR, which is usually the brightness that the screen can manage with 100% white screen. On the Asus it can be avoided if you enabled uniform brightness mode, as once thats enabled the screen doesn't let you go any brighter than it could manage for 100% APL, which is about 200 nits. if you want brighter, you can disable UB mode, and raise the brightness setting more, but that brightness will be lower as your content/window sizes change, thats unavoiable. same on the LG

more info on all these terms etc here by the way: https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/oled-dimming-confusion-apl-abl-asbl-tpc-and-gsr-explained

That monitor is £849 today.

yeah i jumped in that for £849 as was pondering is it worth it over a C2 but that makes it no brainer probably a glitch price lets see if it gets dispatched.
