ASUS 42" ROG Swift PG42UQ

The firmware updater software just requires it for communication along with the USB, don’t know the technical reasons behind it. Some data over hdmi but not dp maybe?
I updated with DP+USB as well. Didn't even thought to check what is required. I have updated twice and has worked like a charm both times.

I’ll not bother getting the HDMI cable out next time then :)

Been playing Alan Wake Remastered, didn’t really enjoy the original before as couldn’t see what was going on. OLED is perfect for such a dark game.

Just an update for those thinking of pre-ordering.

My delivery had a cracked screen so OC are replacing from the next batch as an RMA. I have been told the next batch is expected to be delivered to OC in mid-October.

One of the three Linus had also arrived with a cracked screen. Though he did drag the box down a flight of stairs before discovering it :P

Damaged equipment has to be taken with a grain of salt as Linus takes beating around expensive computer equipment as almost a badge. Little guy syndrome.

Yeah I use mine for full time development. No sign of burn in and it’s a great screen to work with - easy on the eye even from 2ft distance.
@WaylanderUK Full time developer here. Do you not find lack of curve an issue, making it more difficult to read text in corners? Looking at this and the LG 40WP95C as upgrade from AW3821DW, where 90% of use is dev, 10% gaming. LG has awesome 5K2K res, and USB-C power, but it's not OLED.

Got mine yesterday and very impressed. Updated to latest firmware with DP and USB no problem. I was very undecided whether to get this monitor as I'm coming from a glossy panel LG C1 and was concerned in regards to the the AG coating. I just needed a smaller size so it was this or a C2. I went for this as I am using it purely for gaming and wanted a monitor rather than a TV.

After calibration via the TFT central it looks identical to my C1. I see no perceivable loss of black due to the AG coating and the colours seem to be as punchy as the C1. I have a fairly dark room with blinds down and underdesk lighting so have not tested in a light room. Loss of black and vibrance maybe an issue it you have a lot of lighting in your room. I know it's identical to the C2 but for me the text seems much crisper with no fringing. Maybe this is due to the smaller screen space.

Overall very impressed so far.

it looks like Asus has a quailty control problem with this monitor

my first one developed a fault after 1 week
my 2nd one has developed a fault after 5 days

the usb hub is no longer working... i use it for my keyboard and mouse dongles and it suddenly stopped working guess that means i cant update the firmware
tried the usual troubeshooting but no luck

im going to rma if the 3rd unit develops a fault i give up and will go back to my AW3821DW

Nope. I had a curved 34 uw and this is way better at the same distance. The best I can say is it’s almost like you have a big canvass you out your windows on vs smaller monitors you out your windows full screen in. I do notice the dimming but actually it’s ok.. I don’t want my eyeballs blasted. Corner text clarity is perfect - it’s not that big a screen in reality.

My replacement RMA screen arrived this morning. DPD driver unloaded it on its side from the van. The plastic holders on the box two were broken, the top seal was unsealed and clearly resealed. The box handles were torn…..

And the screen was smashed.

I didn’t deserve that. So annoying. I have noticed that in the box, the screen has a foam cover, but when it is in the box the screen rather than the back panel is closest to the box side, and the polystyrene protection only covers the edges of said screen and foam. So effectively whilst in transit the only thing protecting a lot of the screen is the thin box side and 1/2inch of soft foam :(

Did you accept the delivery? , I would have knocked it back personally.
