ASUS 42" ROG Swift PG42UQ

Based on some of the comments in this thread, I ordered new cables (both DP and HDMI) and ditched the ones shipping with the display. Certified HDMI 2.1, reputable manufacturers. I started running the display with the "normal" settings, 4k 10bit 120Hz, but ran into the "blue vertical lines on grey" issue shortly after. I was disappointed of course and turned on the overclocking and 138Hz for the first time, just to see if it makes a difference. *knock on wood* I have not had any issues since with heavy / active use during the past days.

Very happy with the screen despite it requiring a little tuning. I have had similar experiences with other products as well.

I have my previous display next to the PG42UQ and I cannot understand how I managed to live with the horrible trailing/ghosting and grey blacks.
What cables did you get? There is so little clearing below the ports that many cables don’t fit without strain. In my case strain on the connector results in random image corruption.

138 Hz is a feelable difference for me, even on the desktop. Yay, I also was shocked when I used an IPS screen again…

Cheers :-)

This makes me laugh about the monitor - huge monitor, tiny little crevice to put all the connectors in. I wonder if the bent cables and wonky connectors are most of people's problems with image corruption, good point.

Can someone recommend me a reasonably-priced cable in order to get 138Hz on a PG48UQ please? Been through about 4/5 and none of them will (inc the boxed cables, which seem trashy anyhow). Thanks.

I bought Club 3D DisplayPort cable https://www.club-3d.com/en/quick-view/2428/ and Club 3D HDMI cables https://www.club-3d.com/en/quick-view/2460/

These were the best cables I could find in my usual stores and in stock.

My old display is actually VA  glow is not horrible but the trailing is super obvious especially now when I can compare to PG42UQ

Did they pull out the v33 out already???? 31 is not aviable anymore either, only 28, isin't that old, i'm so confused now. it says realease date 2022/11/28, so that's yesterday.

nwm. you can see it after pressing expand all, wtf?

I "upgraded" to the new .28 i didnt even notice the drop down, just flashing the .33 now to see the difference. Id previously gone from .28 which was quite dull to .31 which was brighter so i just assumed i had updated to the newest one. Anyway, will update once i get the .33 updated in a few mins.

Did you check that the cables don’t strain on the connector?

I tried the new .33 - it is fixed at 800 nits - ive gone back to the .28 that was updated yesterday, its just way brighter and what i consider is correct.
What do you mean with fixed? You find .28 brighter? .28 was also updated?

Strange that Asus doesn’t mention the brightness change.

I use a ‘Kabeldirekt’ HDMI 2.1 cable from the rainforest, not the cheapest nor the most expensive but has worked flawlessly for me since my 48CX couple years ago til now with the 42UQ and fits well, agreed for the size of the monitor the connector area is stupidly snug.
