ASUS 42" ROG Swift PG42UQ

My LG 34GK950F has developed a fault where it appears I can see the grid array. It's barely noticeable, but because I've noticed it. It's all I can see. It's definitely the monitor as I've tried different cables and different sources and the problem persists.

Anyway, I need a new monitor and am heavily leaning towards the PG42UQ. For those of you who have one, do you recommend it? Is there anything I should know? Being disabled I can't really get out to view one in the flesh.

Fantastic monitor so far for me. Once you go OLED there is no going back. 42" is pretty big but once you get used to it the immersion in gaming is top notch. Excellent colour and deep blacks, fantastic HDR.

No issues with mine at present. I only use for gaming but I'm sure members on this thread will advise on anything else.

My sentiment is similar to that of Black Dog's. Near-instant response time, deepest blacks and great productivity features (uniform brightness). Once you go OLED there is no going back.

Visuals are fantastic. Size is not an issue for me personally as my previous display was already 43", but I can see this being too big for smaller desks.

I had to jump through few hoops to find the perfect settings for the display, but I don't mind now that I found them. (Thanks to @Baddass and others on this thread).

I use this primarily for productivity, but also very light gaming every day (6900xt) and few hours heavy gaming every weekend (4k 120-138hz with 4090/3090 ti). Also occasionally some entertainment through Fire Stick 4k max HDR.

Super happy right now with no issues.

What are your use cases? How far away can you sit? For HDR (including AutoHDR on Windows 11) gaming it is great.

One downside is that whites have a blue tint on the sides of the screen if you sit too close. It goes away if you sit far away enough. You can’t really see it while gaming. Plus side are: big screen, oled blacks, fast with high refresh rates, great HDR

Heavy gaming, mostly FPS and strategy with a view of light productivity. HDR sounds great, initially I'll be sitting about 28 inches (a little over 2ft) as it will be wall mounted but when we move I expect to be further away from it. Oh and I'm on Windows 11

Is my water cooled 3080ti going to be enough for this monitor or am I looking at an upgrade their aswell?
Well, I currently have a 2080TI and it is working surprisingly well with the titles I have tried so far. Be aware that Input lag is rather big at <=60fps. 80fps feels fine for me. We might need an upgrade for Unreal Engine 5 titles. :)

**** me I've gone and bought the thing! I feel the need for a stiff drink
Congrats! You are going to love it for sure.

Just in case, use known good cables so that you don't get the "why do I get a black screen every now and then"-experience because of poor cables. Anecdotally the cables that come with the display are not the greatest.

Any particular recommendations, cable wise?

Any particular recommendations, cable wise?

I tried to get cables that Linus tested on his channel (I like to be data driven;), but none of those brands/models were available near me.

For HDMI, choose certified cable if you want to be sure and avoid the hassle. I had black screen flickering every now and then with the HDMI cables I used initially (the one that came with the display and Amazon Basics).

With DP, I had the "grey screen with blue vertical lines" issue, which is resolved now, but I am not sure if it was because I changed the cable or the refresh rate change. (It worked fine if I ran the screen at settings not requiring DSC)

I got Club 3D DP cable and Club 3D certified HDMI 2.1 cables. (Links in my earlier post) You can always start with the cables shipped with the display and switch only if you get any issues.

Edit: Oh, one thing I have to add. The "Display connection might be limited" message that I used to get earlier? I have not seen that even once after changing the cable.
