ASUS 42" ROG Swift PG42UQ

Everyone still running black backgrounds/taskbar hiding techniques like recommended with the LG TVs? I'm assuming so and am doing so myself, but just interested either way.

Managed to rig some extension bits onto my 300x200 adapter plate to be able to mount it on my HX arm, working well and nice to have the freedom to move it about again. Hoping the newer firmware update is out this week and helps with the brightness dimming I'm still seeing.
Yup. translucenttb is wonderful.

Is anyone else having an issue where the screen will go black for a second or two if you have multiple windows open? It's driving me bat **** crazy.
Are you in 138hz HDMI 2.1? Switch it to 120 or turn off g sync.
I've sold my PG42UQ a week ago and got the c2 instead. 500£ loss in the end, but it's still worth it.
My only regret is that I fell for the xxxgamer420noscope meme and gave asus money.
Also made me question the credibility of most youtube reviewers, worst of all linus. The issues plaguing this monitor were never mentioned.

connect to DP the problem will go away

I'm using DP at 138hz, I will try dropping down a bit or disabling g-sync and see how I get on.

It is interesting that none of the issues are mentioned anywhere. That said I still absolutely love this monitor and don't think I could go back now, that said ASUS need to get to grips with the issues.

check g-sync to fullscreen.

I am on V031 and am not even considering updating to newer since this seems to be super stable and working on my use cases. I have 3 computers and a Fire Stick connected to the display. Computers are DP and HDMI 2.1, FIre Stick is HDMI 2.0. I mostly use the computer connected using DP which is 4090, 138Hz, non HDR (mostly), 10bit. I used to have light flickering in this setup, which was resolved by turning g-sync off for windowed and full screen only.

I did have to purchase new cables (which I don't regret) which resolved the screen going black for few seconds every now and then (usually when gaming and not very often).

I have my audio connected to the display which allows easily changing the input.

I am not saying that issues don't exist, just that this setup seems to be working without issues.

I have set black screen background (except on some VMs) and screensaver enabled, but no other precautions. I have never run the pixel cleaner. No burn in issues.

This is my first ever OLED display (tv or otherwise) and I am still amazed about the quality compared to the VA screen I used to use before this. Absolutely stunning.

Never update if you are not having any issues (or miss features from newer firmware/versions).

I've had this screen for a week now and loving it. Has anybody found any decent mounts for the 1/4" webcam mount? Something that could hold both a webcam and TrackIR would be ideal.

Mind if I ask what cables solved your issue? I'm in need of an HDMI cable as the one I'm running is giving me slight issues at 138Hz (PG48UQ). Thanks.

It's uncanny how much of a difference a good cable makes over the default ones for image quality and sound (I've known about audio for a long time, it's a rabbit hole and pretty controversial topic but I definitely notice higher end cables for IEMs sounding better with diminishing returns). This goes for everything in your chain by the way, for example my LS60 tower speakers/dual KC62 subs sound better once I got an Audioquest Cinnamon HDMI 2.1 eARC cable connected to my A95K QD-OLED TV (living room/home entertainment setup, not my PC/office setup). My TV also improved in image quality by getting an audiophile grade AC filtered power conditioner with a beefy power cable.

Asus should be responsible enough to include VESA certified cables with braiding. Check GPU-Z transmission link rate to verify if you've got the right bandwidth with your current cable at least - should be 8.1gbps for DP 1.4 w/DSC (four lanes for a total bandwidth of 32.4gbps) and 12gbps for HDMI 2.1 (4 lanes once again amounting to 48gbps).

Anyway I recommend Audioquest for all cable needs - I don't think they make any DP1.4 ones anymore but you can find some online. For HDMI 2.1 get a Cinnamon (second tier out of five, the higher end ones are too expensive with quick diminishing returns). For DP 1.4 you could grab a VESA certified 8k cable from Amazon (read the user reviews to ensure it's legit). Even my stock XSX and PS5 HDMI 2.1 cables looked better than the one Asus provided, it's hilarious (both VESA certified and on the official website).

i have said in past but will post again as its relevant to past few posts. Club3D make very good cables and have a DP1.4 cable for sale also. Working flawlessly for me.

Ah, so that's a cabling issue? I have the same problem on both the inclufed hdmi and dp cable. @petrisi also interested to know.
Apologies for late response, for some reason I did not get notifications from these.

I did purchase Club 3D cables as they were the best ones available near me (I did read/watch several reviews/tests). I have to echo what S.A.S said earlier, they are excellent cables (issues went away completely and for good).

Exact models:

Club 3D Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 -cable, 4K 120Hz, 2m, CAC-1372

Club 3D DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 -cable, 1m, CAC-2067

Club 3D Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 -cable, 4K 120Hz, 3m, CAC-1373

Has anyone wall-mounted theirs?

Had this for four months now. Still on V028 it whatever it was. Upgraded to Win11 and the HDR calibration helped a lot with the washed-out look in SDR. I still get an infrequent black micro flicker which is kinda annoying, along with the ROG logo changing to an orange colour, but other than that it's fine. Played some L4D2 whilst waiting for new parts. In dark environments, the muzzle flash is on a whole new level.

Also, was cleaning it the other day and noticed two brown pin head marks in the center. Thought it was some dirt but realised that the matt coating had actually been pierced :/ Much to my surprise, it's unnoticeable unless the monitor is off.

I've got mine wall mounted.

My PG42UQ ended up dying only a few weeks after buying it. Turned it on after a few days of not using it and the panel was screwed, there was a ton of image retention on it.

I ran the pixel clean on it twice, after the second time it never powered back on!

Ended up returning it for a refund and bought a 42" C2 instead. Honestly, for what was a great looking monitor, the premium was not justified over the C2 which seems like a more complete product.

Ouch! That's rough...

Just got the PG42UQ yesterday and set it all up. Updated firmware to V033. Enabled HDR and low and behold - washed out colors. I and coming from an Aorus FV43U VA panel. Colors were washed out on the FV43U too with HDR turned on. I used the Windows HDR Calibrating tool and helped a LOT. On the FV43U I turned OFF HDR. On this PG42UQ, I am leaving it on. I am using third party VESA certified DP 1.4 cables at 138Hz. Btw, I was very happy with my FV43U - just wanted to see what all the hype was with OLED. Blacks are definitely blacker and whites are definitely brighter and colors are more vibrant. My ONLY gripe with the PG42UQ are the speakers. My FV43U speakers are 100 times better with MUCH better bass. I expected more from these "Harmon Kardon" speakers.

With that said. If I knew what I know NOW...

If I was starting from scratch and had to choose between the two - I would still choose the PG42UQ.
If it was a matter of upgrading from my FV43U to the PG42UQ - I would pass and stick to the FV43U.
