Unless he has another program that's causing incompatibility I'm not sure. He could always buy a resister to force the slow down :P. Or attach to a fan controller?

ASUS 4870x2 TriFan
OC website is still showing out of stock – does this mean all 200 have now been sold?
Other retailers have them but not such a good deal as OCers. Bless them.

Been thinking about alternatives – what do you think would be the quietest of these:
1. XFX 4870x2
2. Gainward 4870x2 GS – the one on special offer
3. ASUS 4870x2 TriFan.
I suspect the ASUS produces less noise and the XFX the most?
What do you think?

Thanks

I would go for the Gainward 4870x2 if you dont want the stock cooler.

Thank you Clairvoyant. As I am looking for a single card solution the Gainward seems the best bet, or I suppose a GTX285 would be quieter but not such good performance - maybe be better in Crysis I suppose, but that's only one game.

Reading from the start of this thread the Asus Tri-fan was reported to be pretty noisy so i'd go with the gainward dual fan.

Appreciate your help creed. Thank you.

Had ordered the ASUS TRi Fan a couple of weeks ago with a system but out of stock. Did think it was cool and quiet - and 'sexy'. Oh three fans. Must be getting old (note to self - must get out more).

Decided on the Gainward dual fan as a replacement - just confirmed that with Overclockers.

Thank you.

I think the Gainward duel fan looks better then the Asus tri fan.

Would a member of OcUK staff (e.g Fatboy ? :p) be able to confirm that you are definitely not getting any more of these in stock? I sent mine back to be RMA'ed, was found faulty, is down to be replaced, but I am guessing it won't be with the exact same model?

Hello SimonTW
I ordered a Titan Goliath system with this GPU but it was out of stock. Looks like all 200 have been sold, with none left to replace any RMAs. Seems as if it was a one off special deal with ASUS.
I have ordered the Gainward with two fans instead. Should arrive tommorrow. Will post my impressions when it is installed. Hopefully better than the ASUS?

Not 100% sure what will happen with it to be honest. If asus do not have any replacement product then we wil lswap it with a different model. Obviously I will have to double check what the situation is with it. Do you have your RMA number and I will look into it for you ?

I certainly do: RMA 165944

Thanks!

The fault has been confirmed and set to be replaced with the Asus X2. As we know these are no longer available.

I can offer Either the Powercolor, Gainward or the XFX parts. We are very low on stock so let me know quick which one you would like as the X2 is now end of line.

Ok, could I go for the XFX option please? If it isn't too much trouble, could it be arranged for delivery on Tuesday 14th July? Someone will definitely be in the house to take the delivery then! :p

I bought this GPU and am wondering what to do with connecting power to it. It has 2 slots (for power I think), 1 has 6 holes, 1 has 8 holes, do I need to connect them both? I have no spare 8 pin power connectors coming from my PSU, only 6 pin ones. The only 8 pin power connector goes into the motherboard. The manual tells me nothing, what can I do?

You need to connect both or the card wont have enough power. Did the card come with an adapter in the box that allows two 4 pin molex connectors to route into one 8 pin? What PSU are you using?
