** ASUS DO IT AGAIN: IPS, 144Hz & FREESYNC!!! Asus MG279Q thread **

Well, according to Gibbo (see here) they will only levy a fee on people who are playing silly badgers and returning multiple monitors, one after another. Can't see any issue returning just one monitor in as-new condition with all the bits in the box (and I shall be deeply unhappy if that proves not to be the case).

I've been quoted just over £20 to send my monitor back via insured courier, which is not insignificant but is small enough to be an inconvenience rather than a major issue.

That could cost you a restocking fee (up to 20%?) though couldn't it?
Plus shipping costs.

Yes... you are perfectly within your rights to return anything under CCR regulations. That's not up to Gibbo, it's the law lol! Of course, taking the mick and returning multiple monitors, GPUs etc. could see you penalised, as that's obviously just not on... but if you're simply not happy with something you purchased for whatever reason, it is your legal right to return it for a full refund (at your cost).

I'm still on the fence whether to get one of these or not, when I see posts like this it puts me off, I'd be gutted but I suppose you hear about the bad ones more than good. You mention the motion blurring how bad is it exactly because that is one of my pet hates and why I would stick with tn panels

If you coming from fast TN (mine is 2ms TN) you'll not be happy definitely. When camera starts to panning @80% freetrace it's blurry. I was hoping that transition from 2 to 4ms would not be that great but yes it is.

And yes I can confirm also that text in native resolution is a bit soft.

I'm going to wait another 6 months or so for something better...

I haven't noticed this myself the previous two monitor's on my desk were a ASUS VG278HE and BenQ XL2420T, I've also recently had a Acer XB270HU and ASUS ROG Swift but had to return them as both were faulty.

I was worried about going from fast TN panels to these new IPS as I hate motion blur, but to be honest I have been very pleased with the ASUS MG279Q in fast paced games. I used it along side my VG278HE and XL2420T and it handle motion blur very well in comparison. It does have slightly more blur but not huge amounts and the IPS colour reproduction makes up for this to me.

It isn't the case that this monitor is really '4ms' for its pixel transitions. It averages 6.5ms and peaks at 15ms according to measurements made by TFT Central at 144Hz and TF 80. Some users may notice some additional blur due to this, but many will find it fine. And of course if you're using FreeSync, it isn't a valid comparison to compare to a 120Hz or 144Hz TN model. :)

Regarding the "And of course if you're using FreeSync, it isn't a valid comparison to compare to a 120Hz or 144Hz TN model." is this because (on this monitor) that Freesync is going to be 90Hz or less and therefore the image persistence will be higher than the 6.9ms(?ish) at 144Hz?

Yes, exactly the point I was making there.

MY monitor arrive and I have it setup. Thankfully I have none of the problems reported here. No Blur, no BLB and no IPS glow. It's bright at the moment, so I will check these things out again later on in the dark and see how good/bad it is.

I am very happy with my purchase, haven't tried freesync or anything yet, but tried a few games like Guildwars, Elder Scrolls and Counter strike and they all look fantastic and haven't noticed any major drawbacks in responsiveness.

My last monitor was a Samsung S23A700D which is a 120hz monitor with great picture quality. This is better.

Nothing negative to report yet and I highly recommend this monitor to anybody considering a new purchase.

melmac, are you the same guy (reaper12) who got his monitor today and has posted over at Hardcop http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1847523&page=13 and also had a problem free screen? If not, it's encouraging that there are two deliveries today of pukka mg279q.

Fingers crossed!

I take delivery of mine tomorrow or Friday and I'll post back my results - really hoping for a perfect panel too! :)

Have you checked very closely on certain letters like "X" "K" "S" "C" for slight blurring? Could you also tell me what settings your using i.e Picture mode, vividpixel, sharpness, brightness, contrast ect and I will give them a try. If it doesn't help though I might have to RMA mine :(

I am using the RPG picture mode as it allows me to change the sharpness. Using Vivid pixel 25, sharpness 40. Brightness 40, contrast 80.

Then I did the cleartype setup on windows again.

Haven't had a chance to get back to the monitor since earlier, but will check the exact settings I am using tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks. I will give these a try :)
