Okay. I've had this monitor for a few days now and its not been an entirely straightforward experience. Out of the box and initially set up (using tft central settings) I was pleased. No dead pixels. No dirt etc trapped. There was however some IPS glow/BLB (not sure which it is) in the bottom right corner similar to some of the pics you have seen in this thread (ie from Melmac post 878) but not especially extreme. To the eye it was pretty minimal (esp with brightness settings down to 30) and against everything except a pure black background not at all visible.
The following morning something strange happened. In the same bottom right hand corner where there was IPS glow/BLB there was now a black shadow. Made everything super murky there like a bad case of vignetting. Terrible.
I rang the supplier (not OC) - sent pictures - was ready to get return details when the problem spontaneously corrected itself. This was on Thursday. Since then the shadowing has not returned despite gaming sessions and normal use. And the BLB whilst still there seems to be fairly minimal. Its almost like the shadowing in some way partly corrected the BLB...
I can live with it. I love the 1440p, the 144hz for normal desktop use, the IPS colour etc. The freesync works really well with my new MSI 390 - I can play GTA etc at ultra/v high settings and even though framerate is in the 40s it looks fluid. So I have a dilemma. Do I roll the dice again knowing I may end up with a monitor with dead pixels or extreme BLB. Or is the shadowing an indication of some serious underlying fault?
Seems to me there is an issue not just with QC but in the manufacture if there are consistent problems in that lower right hand corner.
Melmac. I have had a look at a few films and they look fine to me. The Matrix (where the BLB can be seen a bit because it is so dark) looks great as does Lawrence of Arabia. I'm not seeing compression artifacts. However I've just scanned and not actually watched a whole movie through. Youtube videos etc look fine...
On balance - this is clearly by no means a perfect monitor and at its price you would expect it to be. However, right now the flaws are pretty minor compared to the pluses. I am not going back to a monitor without this feature list (I came from a 8 yr old 21inch samsung...) and as there won't be anything comparable in the marketplace for a while I'm going to stick with it.
Should I?
NB Just noticed the photos are upside down (don't know why) so the shadowing is top left in the picture - it is bottom right corner in reality... And here's another pic
