** ASUS DO IT AGAIN: IPS, 144Hz & FREESYNC!!! Asus MG279Q thread **

Having a look at getting this but have experienced many horrors with Asus Monitors.

Went through 4 x Swifts each with dead pixels, 2 x 4K's with a ton of dead pixels etc...

So is this in the same ball park ? Did Asus yet again cheap out on production and QC of this panel ?

Asus don't make panels. AU Optronics are the company who make the panel for the MG279Q.

I can't speak for others but my Monitor is extremely well built. No dead pixels, just the usual IPS glow which is an issue with any IPS monitor.

I had the same concerns and waivered on buying it, but mine has no dead or stuck pixels, acceptable bleed and less IPS glow than previous IPS screens I've owned.

My only gripe with it is that I can't get the sharpness quite how I'd like it - it's annoying when I'm looking at a lot of text.

Well maybe it's time they look into the QC of the companies Asus get their panels from, Honestly only had bad experiences with them so far.

I want to get this monitor but I don't want another ROG Swift experience :(

If you look through any forums for any of the monitor manufacturers you will see people having problems, especially in regards to IPS monitors. Every monitor manufacturer has duds.

Most of the people who have Rog swifts swear by the quality. While you have been unlucky and got a few bad monitors from Asus, most people don't. It sucks for you but If Asus monitors really were all that bad they would be out of business.

You are still more likely to get a good monitor than a bad monitor.

I should add, that there are only a few panel makers and all monitor manufacturers use them.

Last question before I buy, I remember there being a recall due to a firmware issue, Has this been resolved ?

Yup, I needed to request 2 RMA, 1 for that issue that now is OK, no more firmware issues, and other (the second) for this:

See that little light leakage at the down right corner. The new monitor I have (the third) seems to have little light leakage again (I can post pics if you want) and I don't know if return it or not.

Guys, your screen have that with black screen and in a black room? It's driving me crazy...

Personally for me that would be a complete non issue if I'm honest, Every IPS monitor has light bleed of some type :)

Ok :) it's just I thought that it will come only with the common ips glow not light bleed :S but if is normal ok.
This is a very good monitor but the QC of ASUS is very bad. 2 weeks for the 2nd RMA u.u

Yeah the QC of Asus monitors has been very bad over the last year or so, They must be trying to cut corners to make a little bit more profit as I went through 4 x Swift monitors, Got a refund in the end, Went through 2 x 4K monitors and then eventually got a good one, Asus QC has become a joke.

I bought mine in mid June and I do have this light bleed in the bottom right corner. About as bad as that actually - weird if i move to the right or even further back though it disappears so it seems like the angle the light is being bounced off inside?

It's really not noticeable though I guess if I watched dark films or games with the room lights all off I may notice it more.

Other than that, the monitor has been excellent barring Freesync which was awful, it hardly worked with a R290x and would disable it due to high FPS menu screens and so in in games. It annoyed me so much I bought a 980Ti to get the most out of 144hz/144ps and I've been happier ever since.

The actual IPS quality and 1440p resolution is fantastic. Blows my old iiyama 1080 TN panel out the water and then some!

So... I guess I will keep this screen for now hehe if I watch tv series or films and I notice too much the light bleed I will request other RMA u.u
It's nice to know that I am not the only one having this issue (normal (?)), so thanks for telling me :D

And yes, this IPS panel blow my mind since first time that I put it in my desktop hehe

That isn't weird. It characteristic of IPS (AHVA) glow, which this most probably is that you're observing rather than 'backlight bleed'.

Yes, thats true, but in my case the light bleed doesn't go when I'm watching the screen from another angle, just the ips glow hides it.

Yes. It seems that many of these screens have a combination of both. Generally people find the yellow hue at certain spots to be particularly off-putting, which is understandable.

I've nearly bought this a couple of times but having had a £390 27" IPS 2560x1440 Hazro for years I just can't justify shelling out on such a tiny upgrade :(

Still awaiting decent freesync, superwides!

I'm having a hard time deciding between this monitor or the BenQ XL2730Z.

The reason is this only has a Freesync range of 35Hz to 90Hz where as the BenQ has 40Hz to 144Hz.
