Well I know one thing for sure not one program is capable of giving you an accurate read out regarding memory. If your memory is knackered neither windows or CPUZ will tell you so. I had a PC I fixed around 2 years back for someone, I had reformatted it and fresh installed an OS and the thing kept on crashing. I knew myself it was the memory, as I have encountered it on several occasions. Both windows and CPUZ read that the memory was fine and read the exact amount for the 2 sticks of memory. So I took the modules to a shop and they tested them on a tester, and the memory was deffo at fault, I replaced the memory and his PC run fine and still is. So I would not count on any program on an OS to read out your memory accurate that's for sure.

Checked my main rig earlier and cpu-z does show the PC2-8500 as PC2-6400 but there is a big difference to yours. Under the timings bit, Jedec #3 shows 533mhz (1066mhz) with the correct timings and voltage, yet your's only shows 400mhz (800mhz). It also has PC2-8500 incorporated into the part number. Have you taken a stick out to look at the label yet?

No not yet will do later on tonight, as I have got an internal Western Digital Drive I need to get some stuff off, and for some reason It will not read them drives by the use of my USB kit. So I need to open up the PC and connect it via the IDE slot to be able to retrieve the stuff I want and format the drive. So I will deffo have a look at the memory while I am doing it.

argh cant seem to get anything right with this combination:

P5Q-E 2101 BIOS
Kingston HyperX 2 x 2gb 1066mhz
Q9650

BIOS settings
cpu ratio 9
fsb 445
pcie 100
fsp strap auto
dram frq 890
dram timing auto
5-5-5-18
cpu vltage 1.275
cpu gtl ref 0.64
cpu pll volts 1.54
fsb term volts 1.28
dram volts 1.8
nb volts 1.32
sb volts auto
LLC enabled
PCI-e SATA 1.5

Now I can boot fine a a multi of 7 - but not 9. does this suggest I need more volatage in the CPU? as the FSB works fine at this multiplier

I have this exact RAM

KHX8500D2K2/4G 4GB DDR2 1066MHz Non-ECC CL5
(kit of 2 – 2GB) 5-5-5-15 2.2-2.3V (Datasheet)

In CPUZ PC2-6400 (400) mhz

always the Blend test that fails, almost instantly on the first two cores. even at 7x multiplier. the first test is fine. Could it be the ram?

Contra increase the cpu voltage to 1.3v,
drop the gtl ref to auto,
decrease fsb term to 1.2,
increase dram volts to 2.2v
reduce NB volt to 1.26v

Should look like the one I posted earlier:

AI Overclock tuner: Manual
CPU ratio: Auto
FSB Frequency: 445MHz
PCI-E : 100
FSB Strap: Auto
Dram Frequency: 1068MHz
Dram Timing: Auto/ram spec

CPU Voltage: 1.3v
GTL: Auto
CPU PLL: 1.54
FSB Termination: 1.2v
Dram Voltage: 2.2v
NB: 1.26v
SB: 1.0v/auto
PCIE SATA: 1.5v/auto

Leave everythingelse untouched

I tries those settings earlier, but to get to windows I needed 1.34 volts. strange that I need so much voltage to boot. ive got a 650 w power supply 3 HDD and a 4870.

Ill go back to Bios now and get a photo

cant seem to even boot with those settings, on any ram speed with max voltage greater than 415 fsb. maybe this chip is a dog, becuse this same mobo & ram I got my e8500 to 4.0

OK I would be happy with 3.6 for now. still failing the blend test and the large fft's - small fft's are fine. any ideas? could it be the RAM, maybe I need to re-seat it? I'm running a 1.3 vid with 1.2750 showing in core temp. Just for fun I watched 15 videos on thermal paste and re did mine after thouroughly lcleaning the old noctua and chip. running 5 degrees colder.

ok 1901 bios made no difference. Managed to pass the blend and large fft. had to crank the nb voltage and teh fsb voltage to 1.4

what is the safe max?

I'm not really sure whats wrong there, could be the ram or that the chip doesnt overclock too well. I think 1.4v on the fsb is quite on the high side, wouldnt want to go any higher. Try the settings again but this time, put the ram at 890Mhz instead of 1068

That works. ive dropped fsb to 1.3 and ram is 801 as I just cant get anywhere with fsb over 400.

I guess my e8500 had 9.5 multi so i hadn't pushed the RAM / FSB so far when I had a stable 3.8 on my e8500

Maybe its my board ? I bought this hyper x ram because I couldn't get my OCZ gold passed 800 either.

Just been looking at the Data sheet judging by that the Latency would read 800Mhz if the memory was set at 1066Mhz in the bios. So the reading of mine at 400Mhz is most likely right.

my exact same memory will show 533 in cpu-z when ive got it set to 1066 in bios. which tab in cpu-z are you looking at? - should be memory dram frequency. Either way i cant run mine passed 800 otherwise my pc is unstable, however as this is my second set of RAM that cant go passed 800mhz, im thinking it is a limitation of my mobo.

The SPD Tab. But I have never set my memory to 1066Mhz in the bios so I would not know.

My ram shows the same in the SPD tab. If I remember right they are all 400mhz ram chips that are clocked differently. (eg 533Mhz chips are hand picked pre clocked)

Like Graphics cards that come pre factory clocked.

this ram just fails might try a modded bios

tried two diff m bios, every setting under the sun, and this ram will not go even 1 mhz passed 800.
