Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Good find. haven't been in that thread for ages.

Taken at 412x7 with a Q6600

The lowest setting seems to have been fixed, but Auto is still way off the mark. Memory voltage seems to have gotten a little worse tho.

Hi Cob.

Does this apply to just the modded BIOS or all BIOS after 0702?

Currently tweaking at 450FSB and it seems the board doesn't need much voltage if any at all from the lowest values.

Am I OK to now use lowest values without fear of overvolt?

I can see people queuing up to help you trouble-shoot!

my P5Q-E can only just manage 425 with voltage adustments, the boards overated.
It's probably easier for you to blame your problems on a piece of hardware than yourself but really you are either doing something wrong or you have plain maxed out your CPU, don't get mad, get clocking and try and enjoy yourself! :D

Overclocking is meant to be fun, although everyone hits problems from time to time there is no need to let the experience turn you into a grumpy git! :o

In your boots I would be seeking closure on your testing asap, maybe swap out some hardware, triple check my notes and finally if I still didn't get the result I wanted then I would sell the bit of kit that I thought was giving me gip!

Get on with it!

That because it is the hardware, I just love the mine overclocks well so everybody else’s must too mentality.

Or you have a crap board?

450FSB here all pretty much minimum voltages

Well it's certainly that, I have to increase both NB and vFSB a far bit just to get 425 stable, was tempted to send it back but my confidence in getting another that clocks better is so low I could'nt be bothered, I can live with 3.6GHz for the time being, it's not exactly slow.

I'm trying to get up to speed with your situation but I've not seen a proper post from you explaining the scenario, what hardware is involved, how you have gone about testing etc etc

Youv'e got some great kit and I hope u can get the result you expected, as frustrating as the testing process is (I do understand honest!) but if you put your "I'm in a good mOod" head on and perform some quality trouble-shooting you may be able to isolate the problem, who is to say your CPU hasn't walled (as in your individual bit of silicon).

I want to help mate even though I'm not that good with advanced Quad clocking I'm sure I (and your other fellow OcUK forum members) can help you work this through!

You own one of the most advanced LGA775 motherboards in the world with more BIOS options than you could ever need, don't be in such a rush to blame your failure on the P5Q-E . . . if it's anything like the P5Q-Deluxe then it's a quality bit of kit! . . . you just need to get the right trouble-shooting head on and work out what settings you may have missed or still yet to try, patience, good note taking and general methodical approach is the key!

If you continue the way you are going then you run the risk of turning green, swelling up and smashing your board to pieces! . . . . it happens!

That's quite a good clock you have already.

Sounds like you need to tweak that memory more. What is TRFC set at?

I'm pretty sure it's set to 55, somebodys asked me this before, try to bare in mind it's harder to overclock the FSB with quadcore cpu's, your using a dual core so i'm not that supprised your able to get to 450 without to much trouble.

I also KNOW for a fact that it can hit 450 with a quad.

EDIT: my easiest OC ever: my Q9550/P5Q is prime95 stable @3.83 Ghz -450FSB x 8.5- with everything on AUTO (CPU Vcore AUTO --> 1.24V @ 100% load). Give it a try.

;)

Either sell the board for a new one or move on. Just because you are having a small problem out of the thousands that are running fine doesn't make it a rubbish board because, as statistics show. It is far from it.

So your CPU will high a higher FSB with the board but you presently cannot because of the memory?

Well thats the thing, the memory does 1066 with tighter timings no problem at all, it's at 1066 right now and working perfectly, obviously at 450FSB (900) it's allot lower then it's rated speed so it's not the memory at fault, or at least it really shouldnt be.

Thought about it but my convidence in getting a board that clocks better is pretty low, plus I can't be bothered with the hassle, 3.6GHz will have to do for now.

Memory should be fine for 450FSB. It just sounds like your particular board is a lemon or you need to tweak more with your particular board

What sort of volts have you put through the northbridge?

Naa, it's a lemon, i've tried from 1.10 to 1.40+ in small increments and nothng seems to help, vFSB does but it's only the difference between booting and not booting, still unstable.

Can you guys just accept that my board sucks? I have. :D
