Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Yes these Motherboards do this, But I would not bother turning off the PC even, just Set up S3 standby the PC will only be using about 6watts if Your running it every day

Leaving it plugged in at the mains keeps the CMOS battery charged up. I never unplug mine, I don't think it is a good idea.
On the rare occasion I do turn it off - but leave it plugged in - I do not get that behaviour. It turns on once and stays on. The only time I have got what you describe is when I have made certain BIOS changes

I just rebuild my system over the weekend, Q6600 + 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 8500 + P5Q-E. I managed to get it running stable at 3.3GHz with Prime95 running for 7 hours no problem, any higher the system crashed with I tried to run Prime95. I'm very happy with my system atm. running very smooth and fast

Im not 100% sure - some people think that it may be damaging to the CPU. vdroop is there to help ensure the cpu does not suffer from voltage spikes as it switches between load and idle (i think - please someone correct if this is wrong!) - if your processor is pushed to its ragged edge, then a voltage spike could cause the system to crash. LLC essentially gets rid of vdroop and keeps the voltage pretty much constant - good for getting a good clock without having to set very high voltages in the BIOS. Some people have found that LLC can make the voltage drop on when idle, and create instability that way (crashing when doing nothing) - however, i have found it to be the other way around on my board.

I say im not sure - i have left it on auto in the BIOS (seems to be 'on'!). I have not suffered from stability problems due to LLC, and nor do i think my CPU is dying as a result. Perhaps if you are really pushing the volts hard, then its not a good idea (just in case!). However, im on a relatively modest voltage, and feel pretty comfortable leaving it on. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I've got a Q9550 which is running at 3.4g on 1.22 volts.

Everything is perfectly stable, no crashes and it runs Intel burn test thingy all night with no errors.

Load line calibration is set to Auto in the bios, having second thoughts whether to change it to disabled incase it kills my very expensive cpu, but on the other hand its all stable! hmm decisions...

Im pretty sure it wont do any harm - most people who will have the p5q boards in their PCs will never touch the BIOS, so LLC will be left on auto for most users (i would imagine at least). I would not have thought ASUS would build in a feature that kills chips - OEMs and customers would start to complain sharpish. From the sounds of it you are using a relatively low voltage, and i would have thought you would be fine, but in the end it is up to you.

Is anyone running any of the p5q boards with 6gb of RAM? As discussed in a thread in the memory section, there is quite a good chance that my memory is faulty, and so i would be looking to get a temporary replacement whilst i sort out the RMA. However, i may get a set of 2x1gb dominators if i can run 4 sticks (2x2gb and 2x1gb) at once, and in the end get 6gb of memory. I have heard that there are some problems when mixing revisions of the corsair RAM, but if anyone out there has already done it (or with other sticks), i would quite like to know.

Thanks.

anyone using a SATA DVD drive on this board? Is it ok to have an raid array and a DVD drive on the intel ports?

Also can the xpert ports be used for normal operation with a sata drive?

I had no problems running RAID and a SATA DVD drive on the Intel ports.

You can disable the Xpert thing in BIOS and use its ports as normal.

talking of sata DVD-rws
ive plugged my new sata Samsung writer into one of the sata ports.
and it seems to burn fine (used 3 different programs) , however when you take the disc out it is still blank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anybody else experienced this ???

I would not think it's anything other than a faulty burner, try nero and use the verify in the burn screen

My 4x2GB of Geil DDR2 6400 C4, comes tommorow. Do i just need to up the NB volts to get the 4 sticks working? (P5Q-E)

Im just running all motherboard volts on auto atm, and i will disable my OC till i get ram running. Any help with what to set the NB at would apreciated :)

For me 4 x 2GB it worked perfectly on NB AuTo, but I set it at 1.14v in case it was overvolting too much on auto. I didn't try lower
