Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

I've set an E8400 to 400x8.5, and the correct core speed is showing in CPU-Z. However, the memory, which is 8500 2x2GB is showing up as 6400 at 533mhz, instead of the correct 8500 at 1066mhz. I've checked the BIOS, and the correct option is selected there. Any ideas as to how this should be corrected?

P5Q deluxe and sata raid.

Ive purchased a pair of 74gb raptor hdd's that i want to setup in a raid0 array, is it better to use the red intel ports or, the orange silicon image ports for raid. Will also be keeping my existing 250gb caviar drive as a media storage drive (os and games on the raid array). Not that clued up on raid,:o so whats the best way of going about it. tia.

Just got this mobo and want to put windows onto my 150gb Velociraptor. I think I need to use one of the two ports at the bottom and not one of the 6 mid way up.

Would I be correct?

Yes, you use the 2 oragnge ones for the built in raid-0 or raid-1. There is built-in features that use it from the orange ports. Towards the back of the manual is some info on this.

Also, my new ram came today(4x2GB of Geil DDR2 6400 C4), put it in and its posted and booted to windows without any tweaking of bios (my overclock is turned off and everything is on auto atm). There is a problem tho, once i started testing to check if it was stable (i ran suprime commander benchmark), my grapics/sound started stuttering. The bencmark finished fine (and had a higher score then my 2x2GB gskill 6400 c4 of ram), but there was still a lot of stuttering.

My graphics card is 9600GS, and isn't overclocked, there was no stuttering before i put the new ram in. Anyone experianced this before? or knows how i can fix it ? My whole system seems to run slow now :(

I seem to have solved a lot of the issue, i have turned my OC back on, and upped the NB volts a little, and set the ram to the correct volts/CAS timings as listed. 4,4,4,12.

Still got a weird bug with wow running, it dropped from 60fps (v-sync turned on ), to 13 fps. This stayed that way for aprox 3 minutes, then went back upto 60fps. I used alt-tab to get out of it and check that nothing else was running during this, and nothing was. Its only happaned once in about 4 hours playing, so not sure its a big issue atm.

Will be testing sup com tommorow :) can hopefully have the skimish matches without setting the AI on 500/750 unit limits :P

Running my NB volts at 1.14 at the mo and am thinking of adding another 2x2gb Corsair RAM as in my sig, should I up the NB a notch or will 1.14 be fine, reason I ask is that I've read through quite a few pages of this thread and others and there doesn't seem to be any real definitive answers.

Running 8GB of Corsair here perfectly at 1.14v

I have this board and an E8500(EO) and am stable at 4.2ghz, 443x9. I have GSkill 8500, 2x1gb ram set at DRAM frequencyof 1111Mhz 4:5. I can't boot up at DRAM 890 and at 1066mhz it is unstable. What do I have to do to get a 1:1 ratio. Changing the fsb to North Bridge does not help. Any help appreciated

Found out why i was having issues with installing 4x2gb memory, the 4th slot on my motherboard doesnt work, and i havent noticed before now because i wasnt using that slot with my 2x1gb ram chips.

Oh well its not worth the hassle of getting it replaced, i will just use 6gb or ram instead of 8gb, and use the spare chip on my dads pc or something :)

PC has being working great with the new ram, well since i have been using just 3 slots anyways :p

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what the best BIOS for overclocking/stability was for the P5Q-Deluxe? Im on 0704 that the board shipped with and was gonna put on 1702 from Asus but read on another thread that Kets Modded BIOSes are the way to go...

Just confused which one to upgrade to really - also is 'CPU Margin Enhancement' such a bad option - seems the modded BIOSes have that option removed as it affects overclocks...

Setup includes 4Gb OCZ Reaper 8500 and E5200

EDIT: Also Ive got a RAID 0 setup coming with some RE3s (will be the OS drive) - which SATA ports do I use? I assume either red or orange are fine...

TIA

ps3ud0

I had a similar problem with vista installing ridiculously slow and freezing at points, turned out to be sata raid driver issues.

Your blank screen issue on start-up seems ram related, maybe try some different ram or just try each stick individually and see if you have any luck that way.

I would reset the cmos and update to the latest bios 1st just to be safe.

trying a different sata drive may help.

If all hardware worked fine before and still does you may have a duff board.

Memory is always a good place to start, Try less or something else until You can be sure How the Bios is really configuring it ;)

Thxs guys I managed to getting it running, i took out 1 of the ram it work fine,
I cant get both ram to work in any slot? only 1 will work, the are 2x2GB PC 6400, not sure what brand but they did work in his previous motherboard.

When i put both in it will going to window screen were you see the bar moving after that blank screen and this happen again from previous post:
when i first turn it on monitar go on but there nothing on screen be like that for some time blank, just have to do a hard reset then, then it everything start showing.

Thxs

The new board at default many slightly under volt your ram and this is what is causing the instability. The sticks may just need a slight vdimm hike to get them running stable in dual channel.
On auto the board may also be running completely wrong latencies, you must check this.
more than likely if either stick works fine on their own but fail when run together its just a simple case of tweaking the bios.
could also try them in different ram slots.
