Asus P5Q-E (P45) Motherboard Review

Well wasn't planning on getting it till wednesday so gives a couple of days for a solution to be found and it's highly doubtful anymore boards will be out by then so hoping this is something simple to fix and gets sorted. Maybe when Cob puts his extra 4gb in we will find out if it is chipset or something less drastic, hopefully for you it's something simple Tuvoc :).

No issues here with 8gb

That's with all chipset voltages on their lowest settings (PLL 1.5v, FSB Term 1.1v and NB 1.1v).

You've got ddr3 you flash git :D so maybe it is just a problem with ocz ddr2 then :(. Done a quick search and can't find any mention of widespread problems yet.

Not much difference between the platinum and gold so really we should be ok. Slap the ram voltage upto 2.2 and see how it goes it's obviously not a chipset problem so i am good to go thanks for that Cob hoping you get yours sorted Tuvoc.

Well it can't support DDR3 as it has only DDR2 slots.

But it does support 667mhz memory, as that is the stock memory speed of the 1333mhz FSB CPU's.

Yes, DDR2 667 is supported. However it is confusing - depends on where you read, sometimes you see 800+ only. In the BIOS it warns not to set 667. But 667 works fine, with 2 x 2GB anyway

I suspect the board just doesn't like this particular OCZ. I may try some other settings, but I suspect I'll just have to sell these modules.

By the way, lots of RAM problems with this board reported on xtreme systems forum, but for example some RAM just works fine - e.g. it seems certain Corsair modules with 8GB work fine

Yet Cob's mem is basically our's but with better timings i think so there shouldn't be a huge problem running it it is a funny problem thats for sure and it has made me think twice about buying this board. Would i be right in thinking that even if at the minute 8gb won't work it is more of a bios problem that will get sorted then a chipset problem that we wouold be stuck with ??.

OK - so 2 posts here with 8GB, exactly what memoery is it ?

For the moment, I've gone back to my 4 x 1GB of Geil ULL DDR2-800 (4-4-4-12) memory that I was using in the P5N-E. I was taking a bit of a performance hit with the 2 x 2GB of 667 OCZ at 5-5-5-15. If it had worked with 8GB I would have been OK with that, but since it won't then the Geil is a better bet

I'll sell my 4 x 2GB of OCZ, and when I see a few posts with people running 8GB and I know what memory is guaranteed to work, I can then purchase some new stuff. Or not, maybe I'll just stick with 4GB

I have two of the 2x2gb OCZ PC2-8000 Platinum XTC kits. Can be had under 60 quid per 4gb kit.

Thanks, that's one known good configuration. I'm not a fan of OCZ, but let's see if anything else crops up. What voltage did you have for the memory ?

There is an extensive compatibility list in the manual, showing what modules will run in all 4 slots, I'll take a look there too.

anybody got any results of this with a qx9650? was hoping to use a 400mhz bus speed and a 10multi

and if it at all matter theramlright xtreme 120 for CPU cooling....i think this would be the downfall.
