ASUS XG438Q 43 inch 120Hz 4K announced

Picked one of these up earlier and can absolutely say that the text is a non-issue imo. I run at 125%, ran Cleartype and got no problem with it whatsoever. Cool as ****

didn’t you have a new 49 Samsung and then buy another 38 Acer monitor in the classified forums and now you bought this as well? I thought I was the only one that loved changing monitor tech so much.

Yes, I have a problem :D

Tbf I intended to get a 4k/120hz at some point next year but I couldn't resist. Glad I did it, damn epic!!!

I passed on that 38in btw to the guy 2nd in line, I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with it and end up changing.

Lol its awesome ! I love I can swap to a different Pc if the game doesn't support ultra ultra wide. a lot of the japs Rpgs ports I play only work in 4k compared to widescreen.

yeah its not a bad screen at all ( 43 Asus ) - as I previously stated I am having a lot more fun with it then I thought I would.

Can somebody that owns this monitor clarify something for me if possible. The manual states the following for Adaptive Sync:

Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync: It can allow a Adaptive-Sync/ FreeSync supported graphics source to dynamically adjust display refresh rate based on typical content frame rates for power efficient, virtually stutter free and low-latency display update. FreeSync support 48-120Hz under DP mode.Adaptive support FHD/QHD 48-120Hz under HDMI mode.

I'm guessing that means no 4K Freesync support for XBox One X?

I would guess so yes. I'd test it but don't have a console.

Fair enough, I'm still intrigued by this monitor even I would lose freesync on the XBox. I'm not convinced I've ever noticed it like I do in PC gaming at 4K. Though I'd have to rehang the art above my desk if I bought one!

I do think 40 - 43 inch is the sweetspot for PC gaming unless you have a massive workspace. I could fit a 55 monitor but would need to sit so far back I would lose a lot of space for not much gain. 49 Ultrawide and 43 are perfect for my desktop environment and I would hazard to guess I have more space then other people.

27 Inches = great PPI and 4k performance but way to small for an old man like me with bad eyes
32 4K - not too bad but I would prefer larger.
43 4k maybe slightly too large but I have adapted to it.
55 4k - Way too much neck ache for me. Oled tech looks amazing though and when HDMI 2.1 and the new consoles come out it will be a game changer but doesnt suit my needs.

gaming in 4k above 60 is a revelation.

To me the ideal 4k screen size is 40" for a desktop. I have a 32" and its just a bit too small. 43" is just a bit too big.

A 40" OLED 144hz HDR1000 G Sync screen would tick all my boxes,.

I checked up, apparently XBox One X does support 1440p, so the XG438Q should play nicely with it. Shame the PS4 still doesn't. I'm currently debating saving like crazy till next summer for the PA32UCG, or picking up something like the XG438Q/UQ or CG32UQ if the latter ever actually appears on sale in the UK by a legitimate company and not one just pretending to be english. I'll be damned if I'm dealing with international returns if it breaks.

Getting LFC support is what's really appealing about the XG438Q for me, which obviously I wouldn't get with the other ProArt displays, nor the CG32UQ.

Seconding the 40" OLED proposition as being ideal, the only small OLED's on the market now are either pre HDR or barely reach 400 nits.

The Proart PA32UCG is LFC isnt it as it's freesync range is 48-120hz and all monitors with a freesync range of 2.5 or great has LFC switched on automatically?

Yep it will support LFC purely by having such a large VSync range. I think nowadays it even works with just a 2x difference. I am assuming it will also have to support DSC as I can't imagine them releasing a "pro" monitor and having 4:2:2 chroma sub-sampling to hit 120Hz.

Which leaves me in a dilemma as I recently discovered the Radeon VII is DP 1.4, but without DSC support. :-/ So maybe I need to save an even bigger bucket of cash for the future big Navi or RTX v2 cards.

I have a ASUS XG35V (3440 x 1440) presently, loving it but starting to miss some of the 'height', so to speak. Having looked at other superwide monitors, they are just wider so no point there, for now atleast (anyone know if there is some SW monitors coming out that has more height ?).

So been looking at 43 monitors, and from what I can see, both of you seem satisfied with this monitor. Is it possible to make games render in 21:9 format on the screen though, even if it means black bars all around ?? It's probably not but asking out of curiosity ! :o

Also, how you experience the monitor for normal browsing, light graphic stuff (only for fun) and similar everyday uses ?

Thank you all for any and all information you can give ! :D
